  1. The product on the field, as I saw it on tv, was in the neighborhood as good in 81, 82, first part of 84, 2004, 2006 and 2008. Those teams in the 80s were so intimidating. They hit like they were angry. We don’t know what that is.
  2. Nothing newsbreaking, but yeah, coaching matters. Fred’s death has me revisiting the whole where do u place the athletes thing. After Miami won in Jan 84, a statesman author wrote something about how Fred put best athletes on d compared to Miami which put its best athletes all over the field and recruited more speed. I think we have always been behind in player development, except during the Vince era. Why did players develop then? Because Vince talked them into wanting it so bad? Maybe. Remember Roy not improving hardly at all, saying he didn’t stretch or lift weights, or something like that? I attended the cotton bowl in 2002, I think, against LSU.I was astounded at how out shape our big men looked. We slept through the first quarter, had about six offensive plays. Roy was open the entire first half....got about 4 passes thrown his way. Could have been 10+.....he was that open...LSU adjusted at halftime, put a safety over the top...I think Roy was still open! we still don’t get it. Players need to improve throughout the season, not just hold their own. 1. Coaching 2. Improving throughout season 3. Attitude....great example....lack of intensity against LSU...didn’t impact the outcome because we recruited better than opponent, so we had better players. Who cares how it looked. We simply need to get hungry again....we’re not Texas anymore, we’re kind of like the Dallas Cowboys. or to put it on college, we’re Michigan....and our old rival is ranked 5 in country, while we waste a bunch of talent.
  3. If Leach, Harsin, Dykes, there’s a bunch of guys who could be better than herm, probably 50. Does the board care about result right now? Balance sheet must be bigger concern now, with COVID attendance problem. If we’re looking at this from the longer view, Tom will have pressure on him to either salvage his career or not, with a marginally successful season next year. Something tells me cdc is not giving up. Take another run at a Urb after Ohio st. Finishes season. Buyout is $25 mil? Herman buyout is 15 of that? What does that make buyout next year? 15 total ? 6-6 next year, unless urb is coach. If herm comes back could go to 5-7. New end zone, 60k fans, embarrassing,
  4. Sound just popped into my brain of one frank Broyles broadcasting with Keith Jackson....Texas OU game. Frank had great respect for Texas, especially d and he would go on and on how great a favorite Texas lineman, brad shearer played. he pronounced it Shearuh... ”Keith, with Shearuh in there Oklahoma can’t even run one of their favorite plays. He’s just too quick. They took it out of the playbook this week.”
  5. Also, I never really thought about it before. Compare 81 D to 83 D. Don’t think we played a great non conference schedule in 81.
  6. I was at last game for Fred. Aggies beat us 16-3 I think. I remember how great a job Fred did for big games early in season. If he could have somehow took just a tiny bit of that magic and put it in postseason, he could have had a chance at 3 big ones. That 1981 team was an incredible 10-1-1, and with just a tiny bit of offensive imagination could have been 11-1..finished 2 in nation. It is so strange to us now, but he really did put all of the best athletes on D. Both Auburn games were incredible games, and playing Penn State in New jersey and whipping them really did some great things for us pr wise. Seriously do not think we lost a game in Sept. under Fred until maybe 85. Fun fact....in 1983, best defense ever imo, our D was out scoring our offense in game against TCU, through 3 quarters. I believe it was 2 interceptions returned for TDs. Jerry gray, 1985 best interception ever in college, imo. Bomb thrown by Auburn...jerry flies like he’s floating on his back in pool, sticks one hand in air, catches ball and gently falls to grass turf. And of course the 84 game against auburn in Austin....guys remember bo was the fastest man in football, and how far did jerry have to run to get him? I want to guess 30 plus yards. Took tremendous determination to get him. RIP Fred.
  7. now these kinds of names would probably come up during a real coaching search. I like the huge incentives for the unknown coaches.
  8. I will not believe a no until/if Herman is still coaching for Texas in a week. If the herm is still here, there are probably about 50 coaches currently coaching in the NCAA that are better than Herm. However, the problem of which of those coaches will inspire boosters to open check books, I have no clue. Make Saban and Dabo both say no to 14 million @ 7 years, then.... Here are some acceptable names, far better than Herm, imo: Harsin Muschamp Guy that left Baylor to go to pros Mullen Freeze After that, conduct a real serious search for someone under age 45 who has skins on the wall. There have to be some guys who have multiple conference championships. For the unknown guys, put in incentives, huge incentives for winning a conference championship. There has got to be a better alternative than bringing tom back. Do not want: Brown, Miles
  9. I don't think the Giants are beating any team by 2 Tds, but I think Colt's accuracy and leadership go up as the weeks go by, and assuming everybody on the Giants stays healthy, this team has a legit. chance to go to the big game.
  10. This is what I have been thinking about lately. Let's say Meyer is worth $30 milllion, but he can do something really special for his family tree. He can add up to $50 million to the bottom line in the next six/seven years . I am still thinking his ego will require a deal bigger than Jimbo's. I am thinking 6 years at 13 million = 78 million, bigger than Jimbo, so the ego is satisfied. Then comes the thing about Saban. I think Urban thinks he only needs one, but two more championships at Texas puts him in the conversation with Saban as the best of all-time. This is the best opportunity Urban is going to get, unless Clemson or Alabama were to come open. The cherry on top of the sundae is the extremely weak big12. Look at that talent yesterday. Here is a freshman totally rested and ready, earning 19 yards per carry! He only has to beat Oklahoma to get into the big 12 championship game, and he has the state of Texas to recruit from. This is totally a no-brainer for Urban, imo.
  11. Wait a minute, this falls into Herman's master plan. No magical Sunday practice on the last Sunday, no press conference to have to memorize answers for, battle COVID, and boom, another 30+ point blasting of the opponent. Iow, once Herman is effectively looking for another job, his offense magically performs to expectations, and he rides off into the sunset to coach in SEC country or something like it, as an OC or whatever. I still wouldn't lay any money on even Texas - 28, but this is basically predictable, assuming the field is in decent condition. The important factor now is Kansas. Do they have enough players to dress out?
  12. Truly amazing. My expectations for this week, being week 1, were Colt not being injured and completing a few passes. Watching the highlights, he was rusty for sure, especially in the first half. But the 2nd half he seemed like himself. This really could be the team that comes out of the east and goes to the super bowl, especially if the OL can improve every so slightly in pass blocking.
  13. What is that almost half their team?
  14. Tonight, tomorrow, or after Kansas...if I am Meyer, I want get started saving recruiting as quickly as possible.
  15. Those of u who say nothing until after Kansas, why wait? It hurts recruiting even more, the longer we wait, correct?
  16. Now that baylor has finally finished, what r predictions? I say tomorrow morning, after 9: 00, then announce urban Monday at regular press conference time.
  17. I can feel it coming, something we’ve been looking at for almost two months.....what a mind melt...cdc, you are about to be officially on the clock!
  18. Still not over.... sooners doing the herm, keeping it close
  19. I understand baylor forced a 3 and out, and has a chance to close within 3.
  20. Todd dodge would be better than herm,
  21. Are the BMDs gonna write checks without an oral face to face guarantee from CDC that Meyer is on board?
  22. This is the stuff I predicted about five weeks ago. Cdc had to wait until mathematically eliminated. 30 minutes game time left.
  23. Tomorrow both threads hit 420 pages...how appropriate would it be for both announcements to happen the same day as both threads hit 420? Possible.
  24. ....and Britt Hager along with DJ for top 3.
