This is sort of incorrect. While black bears are more timid and easier to scare away, if they do engage you they will maul you to death. You can play dead with a brown bear and there is a good chance they stop attacking you. If being mauled by a black bear you fight for your life because they aren't stopping until they rip you open. Black bears are actually more dangerous than grizzlies.
I was with you until the last sentence.
I think it goes
Polar
Grizzly
The rest of yall bears.
Fight me.

I've seen one of those animals do the same thing when I was a kid out at Criders back in the late 80s. It also tore thru the dividing fence they would put up to close off half the arena.
Headed to Crider's in a couple of weeks, so this hits close to home.

I have a friend stationed in an AFB in Arkansas. He's half black, or bleck if you're from South Africa or Lethal Weapon2. Anyways, during onboarding, he was told to "stay in the city area and avoid sundown towns." Those can't possibly still exist right?
No, people are free from harassment and crime on every corner in America, no matter their skin color. It’s a colorblind Utopia.

Next up, the “my uncle is a prince and he left me $10million but I don’t have a bank account in my country so give me your account number,” and “your car warranty is about to expire” people are about to clean them out.
That is, if they don’t figure out only fans first.

What’s the rule on Cuba?
I would pay a premium for a run over to Havana, couple of nights on my boat, then out with nothing but a passport stamp.
Thats got to be similar distance from Islamorada to Bahamas right?

I probably should have said maintenance / upkeep. But if I were to get serious I would do diligence on costs for sure.
But costs for use are 100% the user. So fuel, Capitan and deckhand costs are paid by the party that incurs them. So during the 36 days I would use it I would have to pay those out of pocket. Comparable use for 8 days of a 50 foot newer cat in the BVIs is gonna run $12k all in without a crew, that’s just boat costs. Pretty sure I’m not spending $50k more on use over those 36 days. Typical 2 week stay - fish 2-3 times on this boat, live at the marina the rest. I’d fish skinny waters 2-3 times too different set up. One of the trips we would go all in and skip over to the Bahamas. I’d expect not to go full throttle but cruise at a speed that saves some cash. But that fuel bill will be $3000-5000 I bet? Plus a week or so of a Capitan and deckhand? So yeah that trip would cost.
He makes some money to offset so costs are higher and those charters reduce that.
his motivation is to reduce costs and frankly to share, he doesn’t like enjoying it alone.
I’m in a “moorings 4200” for a week in July. First year boat and it’s $5300 for the week. Sail some but I’ll still spend a chunk on fuel, I’m sure.
What’s a fly guide in bvi cost for a day? $1,000 all in including tip and gambling money (if you’re not gambling with your fishing guide you’re missing out on one of my life’s greatest pleasures)?
Probably double that if you wanted to be there for a busy week like new years.
If you want a 50, get a 50, but that’s a big boat.

Comes with straight up 10% use - I would get 36 days, and 10% of net operating costs and 10% of any net revenue (haha). I think annual op ex is about $150k he said so another $15k per year? Probably a sunk cost of $75k for a motor overhaul in 10 years or less.
I can see using it for two 2 week periods easy. Probably work some. Take the kids some. Could make real sense.
Primary owner is a really good friend. He’s about to bring on his first partner 20% and I’m likely to help him do the paper work.
only problem I see is getting to the boat from the airport without having to use the bathroom on the way. My wife is not to happy about the idea of us spending time in Florida on the reg. Happy pride month!
probably won’t pull the trigger this year but I might next.
to be honest the appealing part is Marina life, island life, access to the Bahamas, and access to skinny water which has nothing to do with this boat. We’d go fishing on it don’t get me wrong. But I’d probably fish for tarpon and bones just as much.
it needs aftermarket stabilizers not sure partners would go for it.
I’m still on the sailing path but I’m years out from having both the resources and time to justify seven figures on a boat that’s a days travel away.
And honestly, I don’t want to be the one that has responsibility for the logistics.
I’d like to see that expense breakdown. Add fuel captain and a deckhand?

Plenty of great bike stories on here lately. Bravo.
I will change it up and just ask this: why would a group of 14 year old boys drive a fully functioning go-kart through the woods, rigged up to jump the carbeurator to a top speed that the gas pedal couldn't hit, attempting to navigate through a suicide gauntlet of massive rocks chunked at them by their friends?
Answer: because they were a group of 14 year old boys.
My favorite time on the go-kart was when you would hit a fire ant mound and scoop that sumbitch and all its residents up into your gokart floor board. Then, about 3 minutes later they would all attack and sting simultaneously.
Emergency stop, jump out of the go-kart and run around in circles flailing on a hot ass south texas day. I'm sure the wine-soaked housewives in the neighborhood thought I looked like Big Daddy Garlits or Cha-cha Muldowney on fire in Heart Like a Wheel.

This thing is cool in a "my grandmother once had a green monte carlo that was cool," kinda way. It had 8ft long doors, adjustable mirrors (wiggle the little sticklever on the inside), brown carpet, windows you couldn't really see out of, a hood ornament, big fucking engine that could turn fuel into heat but not power, and little tires.
It didn't do anything really well unless you count burning gas and causing door dings. I wish I had it now, but I'm not sure what the hell I would do with it other than look at it and say "what the fuck were we thinking."

amazed we didn't lose anyone. Distinct anti-safety culture. YGIFS posted "Mongoose" above which reminded me of someone showing up with a mongoose fully padded. That lasted till about lunch when the heckling got the best of him. There were no helmets, pads, any of that shit. Show up with that and you were mocked mercilessly. quite the time to be a kid.
I had a pad on the handlebar bracket that covered this thing
We were certain at that age that, if our testicles ever made contact with the handlebar bracket, we would die instantly.
The rest was fair game.

Not sure why you're throwing the Diamondback kids in w/ the poors. That was a 1st class rig all the way.
It goes like this
JMC
Hutch/PK Ripper
Redline
The rest of you poors.
Huffy. About the only thing I can say about those Huffy bikes is that whoever was in charge of the styling... an attempt was made. Heavy, shit components, a bunch of unnecessary things like chain guards and reflectors, fake silver paint instead of chrom-oly (whatever the hell that is). The modern day equivalent would be Hisense or maybe the giza sheet commercial guy.

there were about a dozen of us in the sub-division I grew up in. Every day, all day long June to Sept from the age of 5-12 with breaks for jumping in the creek, throwing rocks at each other and eventually "tag" with the old Red Ryder BB guns.
If it was in the yard or the garage it was considered bike ramp construction materials. Boards, bricks, boxes, dad's old TR6.
Redline 600a ftw! Those poors with their huffy's, diamondbacks and raleighs couldn't fly like I could.

Find the cheapest vrbo you can either in poipu or near hanalei on Kauai and go fuck off for a while.
Learn to eat a plate lunch
https://www.parrishkauai.com/103260/plate-lunch-kauai/
Skip the expensive ass Hinano or cocktails and just drink cheap rum or whiskey.
Skip the Arizona. Skip the helicopter ride.
If you want to impress your friends buy a Cartier watch.
If you want a cool experience, do Kauai on the super cheap. Beaches, hiking and drinking is the way to go.

If it's a choice between that or a grizzly, yep.
If you've seen both in person, then you know this is correct and it's not a close call.

we never go that far south. Seadrift to Port OConnor. I’ve fished twice out of austwell with locals, killed it. I’d highly recommend an austwell guide / local. But I’ll add, that’s a weird group of peopleCasually dated a few girls from that neck of the woods in my younger days, including the daughter of a shrimp boat employee from Port Aransas ("let's go by my house to meet Jed/Daddy"), and a ginger who worked the drive-thru at the Rockport Burger King.
Also watched my dad evict a fishing guide from a rent house for non-payment of rent and then, watched said fishing guide return a few months later to get his lady's Christmas decorations out of the attic. I felt sorry for the guy - his message was basically, "I'm not paying the rent, and whatever you are going to do to me, do it, because I'm not leaving here without the Christmas decorations." No violence was threatened but I felt like that dude was cornered.
Weird group of people sums it up nicely and I can sincerely say, I've seen some shit.

Kid has Boss Katana MK2 50 and a Airstep Kat pedal.
now he wants an expression pedal - wah.
recommendations? If possible I would like to buy a decent one that he’ll keep for a while. Not something specific to particular amp/pedal.

What are the rules for a second home? Is 20% down required or are there lower down options? income/debt rules?

It is amazing that someone hasn't come up with a better flavor for that shit. Lemon laguna madre flavor is what I got. Why not hide that shit in some french onion soup? Salty and I can eat the f out of some FOS. If not that, some miso soup. A little different, not exactly mom's chicken soup, but way way better than the current option.
I would slurp either one of those down with a smile.

Her basis in the property is probably what the donor reported on their gift tax return as the value of the property.
But since that didn't happen, who knows.
Disclaimer - Not a CPA,
but I think the penalty for late filing a gift tax return is based on the amount of tax due.
So, if it was a gift that didn’t trigger gift tax … no tax was due and one could now file a late gift tax return, without penalty.
Then, springboard off that sumbitch right into a basis equal to the value of the date of the gift, which probably should match the date of the deed.
Et Voila!
