  1. I didn't get to meet the owner's wife because I bought the Tele from a guy who is a friend of the family, but I spoke to her briefly on the phone when I bought it. She said she has several photos of the Tele over the years, including one of it on stage with Buck Owens at a show in San Angelo. I might take a drive and go visit her so I can get copies of the photos. If anyone is interested in reading an article I found online about the owner, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the link. Out of respect for him and his wife, I'd rather not post it publicly.
  2. That's awesome, Mojo. I haven't played much with others since I had kids, but I'm starting to get that itch. Deej, here are some more pics of the Tele neck. You can see where the original owner carved his initials BR into the back of the neck.
  3. Yeah man, for sure. I'll take some more pics and post em. Let me know if there's any specific parts of the neck you want me to focus on. I ended up reading a bunch about the maple Tele necks that Fender made in the late 60s while I was researching this guitar. They made a two piece maple cap neck and then a solid one piece maple neck with a skunk stripe. Mine has the one piece. The two piece maple cap necks made in 68 and early 69 are highly sought after just cuz there weren't that many made and some guys like the look of all maple on the back of the neck and no truss rod plug on the headstock. I can post some examples if that doesn't make sense.
  4. I thought this was pretty cool. The original Fender luggage tag was in the case.
  5. I'm pretty happy with it as is, but I'll probably make a few cosmetic changes myself. I might try to find an original set of knobs and a control plate or go with a relic repro set so they'll more closely match the patina of the bridge which I believe is original. I also want to replace the pickguard. The original pickguard was likely 3-ply with white on top, black in the middle and pearloid on the bottom. There's an original one right now on Ebay for $400 haha. I like black but it needs to have that little notch by the truss rod, and I want to mount the neck pickup on the body like it was originally so you don't see the height adjustment screws on the pickguard. Like I said, nerding out...
  6. It was obvious that the guitar had been modified, but since the owner had passed, it was impossible to ask him about the mods he had done over the years. There was some paperwork from an appraisal that was done about 10 years ago and documentation of the nitro refinish. The first thing I noticed when I first saw it in person was that there had been some small holes drilled on the top behind the bridge. The holes were filled when it was refinished. I thought at first that maybe it originally came with a Bigsby. I later realized it would've been a toploader if the Bigsby was original. This one strings through the back, so I believe the Bigsby was added and then removed. Paint in the neck pickup cavity indicates it was probably Olympic White originally which is what the owner's wife recalls. It also looks like it might've been painted black at one time. She didn't remember it ever being black but admitted that he was always messin' around with it so it could've been. Some pickup routing that was filled and repaired when it was refinished. Here's a shot of the neck heel date stamp in green ink which uses a format that Fender used for a year or two starting in mid-1969. The 3 means it's a Tele neck. 129 indicates Dec 1969. B is the neck width code. The other three numbers might be a batch code. I think it might've been re-fretted and had the fretboard resprayed at the same time. I'm thinking the pickups that are in it are a set of Fender American Vintage 52 reissues. The extra SD bridge pickup it came with was in the box for the Fender set.
  7. Thanks guys. If yall wanna nerd out on this guitar, I'll post some more detailed pics including the neck heel, pocket and under the hood. I'm still not sure what kind of pickups are in here, still haven't taken off the control plate either. Looking forward to spending some time with this one.
  8. Yup, that's the one, Deej.
  9. Dammit. How do I imbed those pics?
  10. NGD 1969 Fender Telecaster refinished in Blonde I'll get some more pics when I can. This is a player's guitar - refinished with non-original electronics. A lovely woman from San Angelo bought this for her husband in 1969. He played it honky tonks all over Texas, making modifications as he went along, including the refinish about 10 years ago. He passed away a couple years ago. She sold it to me today.
  11. It's titled "Mind Control". The tldr is don't believe social media, everybody loves Ye. He's the greatest artist on the planet, he's channeling Fela, Marley and Tupac. And he wants to buy his publishing rights from Sony, but Sony won't sell them.
  12. https://www.pscp.tv/w/1yoKMVydwkwGQ This is a link to a live Periscope that Ye just posted. He's back on social media apparently.
  13. This is correct. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2018/08/17/no-one-third-of-african-americans-dont-support-trump-not-even-close/ Trump is at 10-15% in the Gallup and Ipsos/Reuters polls. The Civiqs poll has had him at single digits throughout his presidency. Edit: Just read up the page. I believe this is a link to the article Brisket was quoting.
  14. We got here about 15 minutes ago. Caught the last three songs by Van Etten. Would have liked to have seen this place during the day but it's too cold for my old ass to be out here for that long. This mist could turn into snow if it drops a couple degrees.
  15. The forecast has given me second thoughts about taking Bus to Show. Not sure if I want to get there early and sit through SVE in the cold. On the other hand, if we take Uber we might be waiting for a while after the show to catch an Uber back to town. Might just bite the bullet and book BTS to get the whole RR tailgating experience despite the cold.
  16. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/dallas-police/2018/10/02/everything-city-dallas-wont-tell-death-botham-jean "Other records that police and prosecutors refuse to release include: Guyger's personnel file, records related to her shooting of a man she said took her Taser during a struggle in 2017, Guyger's clock-in and clock-out times the day of the shooting, Guyger's annual salary, previous administrative leave with the department, other 911 calls about the shooting, Guyger's work schedule, body camera and dash camera videos, and any off-duty jobs she was approved to work."
  17. Quick trip up to Dallas tomorrow night for Death Cab for Cutie at the Bomb Factory and going to see the National at Red Rocks on October 9. Might mix some ACL fest in there too.
  18. For the past 17 years, I worked at a job where it was against the ethics policy to contribute to a campaign or to publicly support a candidate. Yesterday was my last day. I just made my first contribution this morning.
  19. Just curious, how are you getting to the show? After reading reviews, I'm still not totally sold on taking Bus to Show. We're sitting a bit farther back than you guys on row 52. Didn't get our tickets right when they went on sale. It was a spur of the moment decision at 2 am.
  20. Yeah i was looking at Bus to Show too. They pick up at several places in town. We're gonna book our Airbnb today and try to get a place kinda close to one of the pickup locations.
  21. My GF and I are going to this show too. It'll be our first time at Red Rocks. Flying in the morning of the show and coming back the next evening. Probably gonna stay in Denver and take an Uber or a shuttle to the show.
  22. I dig Secret Machines a whole lot. If you're into big-hitting Bonham-style drummers, Josh Garza is one of the best out there. Garza was previously in a band from DFW called Comet that put out a really good album "Chandelier Musings" that was produced by David Baker from Mercury Rev. Like Secret Machines, Comet had some buzz but never broke it big.
