For those into this sort of thing, every disc at criterion is half off today only. Some awesome 4Ks and box sets relatively cheap.

The Devils (1971). Depraved (and naked) nuns, fornication, exorcisms, politics, religion. Outstandingly demented.

Watched Mandy, 2018 flick with Nic Cage and Andrea Riseborough. The first half was an extreme Lynchian psych horror that I quite liked. Second half turns into a revenge horror that I found pretty boring.

If you could be guaranteed an 8-4 finish to the regular season, yet you do not get to pick the wins and losses, would you take that record, right now?
I would take 8-4 if I could, without hesitation. 2 of the last 3 games involved one of the worst Texas offenses I have ever seen and one of those games also included a lackluster defense. I feel like the chances of seeing more abysmally shitty offensive performances over the next 5 games are really high and there's a solid chance that the defense plays like asshole again as well.
A blowout loss to Georgia feels inevitable and an embarrassment in Starkville feels very plausible. 5-7 is more likely than 10-2. Hell, 9-3 would fucking stun me.
My biggest problem with all of this is that there is no excuse for it. This is year 5 and Sarkisian has been given every resource. This is his doing and the offense is his bailiwick, yet the offense looks like an FCS unit.
Also, name a QB that has been on a Texas roster and actually gotten better during their time on campus while Sarkisian and Milwee have been running that room. Like, name a single one.
I will be stunned if we claw our way to 8-4. Beating any of Georgia, Vandy or A&M would be shocking at this point, and Miss St. is going to be a dog fight.

I think we need to simply accept that this year's version of the Horns isn't destined for greatness. Rip that band aid off, cuz OL and QB play are just subpar.
We should be looking for two things: (1) that they can win enough games to keep the program's wheels from falling off; and (2) that we see incremental improvements on offense to give hope for next year. Like if Arch could demonstrate proficiency on at least one basic pass pattern, you know, the kind of thing we see other JAG QBs doing right and left on TV every Saturday.
I can't fathom how any QB could look this awful after three years in the system. I've seen disappointments before, but we're in freakish aberration territory at this point.
8-4 is the ceiling at this point. Find a way to scrape together wins against Miss St and Arkansas. Both will be painfully close. Zero chance of beating Georgia, and pretty close to zero chance of beating A&M and Vandy.

Love me some pretentious cinemaphile smack, especially when it’s a cheap shot. I’ll say, Phantom Thread is best enjoyed on the big screen when you can be fully immersed. Great acting and eye candy. It will lose a lot on an airplane small screen, but can help put you to sleep.I saw Phantom Thread at the brooklyn academy of music opera house with a live orchestra performing the score. One of the great movie going experiences of my life.

Got a nice long weekend set up. Wed dinner at Jeju, Thurs brunch at Nice Matin, Fri dinner at EMP, Sat dinner at Sushi Sho, Sunday doing Family Meal for brunch then seeing Harry Potter in the evening, and Mon dinner at Semma. I’ll post pics.
Nice mix of fine dining and trendier but still great spots. Semma and Jeju are both in my regular rotation.

Easily the most effective half time adjustments we’ve seen from Sark. First time he’s shown the willingness to make so real changes. Great time to do it.
What real changes did we make between the first half and the second half?

Really liked A Desert. Psychological horror. Depraved but also a bit Lynchian at times.

Brent’s Sooners have scored a touchdown against Texas in only one out of four games. Will be a sad day when he is fired.

Eh, people have been screaming at him to take the points all year. Chance to get get it to a 2 score game, I’m ok with the decision.

Annie Hall, Manhattan, Reds, The Godfathers, Something’s Gotta Give, Father of the Bride, Interiors, Play It Again Sam, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and many more. One of the greats.

The GOAT, can't wait. Guy is really something. If you included only his movies made in this century, he'd still probably be one of the all time greats.
As an aside, ranking Marty movies is an impossibleexercise. My personal top ten (I think) is below, but it omits some absolutely stone cold classics.
1. Goodfellas
2. After Hours
3. Raging Bull
4. The Last Waltz
5. Wolf of Wall Street
6. Killers of the Flower Moon
7. Silence
8. Taxi Driver
9. King of Comedy
10. Casino

That makes sense, because Stroh is the most consistent player on the team. You know what you are going to get every single time, so Sark can game plan around playing 10 vs. 11.

7 wins is no guarantee unless Saturday's defensive effort turns out to be some kind of motivational fluke.
Finding 4 more wins is not easy. Arkansas and Kentucky are the two most obvious likely Ws (although Kentucky at night and Petrino offense both scare you to death). Georgia is going to be ugly. So find 2 wins among OU, @MSU, Vandy, and A&M. Oddly enough I feel OU is the most likely win among those 4 (certainly if Mateer is out).

It bothers you a fuckton that somebody walked out of a movie, without saying a word to interrupt the experience of others. Just got up and left, and shared it on here, where I've shared tons of other opinions on movies and TV events.
Why do you give a fuck?
To the contrary, I thought your sequence of posts was quite comical

Did they actually expect an indie bio drama about a dude 99% of the US has never heard of or remembers would blow up the box office? The Iron Claw made 3x its budget at the box office for A24 just 2 years ago, with a lot of the same characteristics.

Goosby had his worst game as a Longhorn on Saturday, but we have no other tackle options and he is talented.
Campbell must start, partly because he’s been a solid pass protector overall, but also because we have no other options.
Hutson was awful against Florida and he’s been closer to Stroh in grading than Campbell.
Baker is the most penalized player on the team with 7. He has good feet and has some athleticism. He is also weak and technically raw.
Brooks leads the entire offensive line in pressures allowed for the season, but he earned that distinction in only 44 snaps against Florida.
Stroh is unplayable. He may not be a P4 player, now or ever.
Some incredible one liners in the Scipio write up. I remember the long ago days of fall camp laughing my ass off at CTJ making fun of Tarp write ups.

Saw it a second time yesterday in 70mm IMAX. Hot damn this movie is electric.
A film about the complexity of motherhood, fatherhood and family. A film about generational divide. A film about the limits of idealism when confronted by real world forces. A film that is fucking hilarious. A film that features one of the great car chase scenes in cinema history.
Honestly pretty impressive slorch was able to glean all of that before the title card hit.

Florida has averaged 11 points per game in their last three. Oklahoma scored fewer points against Illinois State than we did against San Jose State and they have the worst running game in the SEC. Georgia scored 28 against Austin Peay. Vanderbilt gave up more points to Georgia State than Texas did against the #1 team in the nation. A&M's defense has given up 86 points in 3 games. There's a very decent chance Texas won't allow 86 points until late October.
Some of y'all talk football like Texas is the only team you ever watch and you hate watch every second of it.
Still feeling confident on this take?

Halloween/Horror Movie Thread

I keep hearing about Kidprint. I’ve missed the boat on VHS for some reason, but seems like I need to give this one at least a whirl. Is it required to watch the wrapper and the other segments, or is kidprint standalone?
