  1. Kyle is a good kid, but he's a marginal pro baseball prospect. The idea the that he'll even have a chance to turn down "seven figures" is moronic. He's a sub .300 hitter in college with OK power at best and he can't catch a cold.

  2. Tech, OU, and UT seem to be headed for a regional

KU can hit, and finally showed it on Sunday.  And their started pitched really well. Fortunately for Tech, OU finally lost a game and that kept them within three.  UT is looking really solid.  Could very easily win the conference.  They seem to be improving as the season goes, and that's what good teams do.  I would say the same for the Sooners, except there in no rationalizing that OU does not suck.

It was not destroyed by aggy.  It was destroyed by changes in the market.  Oklahoma successfully sued the NCAA to get access to TV revenue.  Once this happened, conference appeal to TV became ALL about the TV markets.  The SWC and the Big 8 were in deep trouble because their market footprint was decidedly smaller than that of their rival conferences.  Dodds and Joe Castiglione pow-wowed and agreed to a 10-team league by adding UT and A&M to the Big 8.  A hasty meeting was called shortly thereafter in Austin with Pete Delaney and Ann Richards.  These two, threatened to withhold state funding to the two largest school systems if Tech and Baylor were not allowed to tag along.  The Big 8 said, "Sure, whatevs."  The big dogs were already working on a revenue distribution model that would neuter programs like Tech and Baylor anyway so two more scroats to cut was no big deal.

So, what killed the SWC was the fact that the SWC was a relic of a different era.  When the revenue model changed it was no longer viable and it died as a result.  UT didn't kill it, aggy didn't kill it.  It just went extinct.

    Who's Pete Delaney?

  4. Tech went in dry on KU for the second time in two days.  15-6 and 10-0.  But they're still just 5 and 3 in conference.  They went 3-3 against Baylorape and WVU, failing to score a run in Game 1 of each series.  Sooner took all six against the same two teams and has a very early but very strong grip on the race.

OU may actually win the Big 12 after pretty much being very below average non conference

  5. Tech walked off NMSU in wonderful Midland Tuesday night.  I was in town, so I went.  Or at least I went to the first seven innings.  I think the wind chill was 14 degrees so I lasted as long as I could.  I missed the solo shot that gave them the 2-1 win. Very nice Tech crowd in the PetroPlex

We certainly have more engaged fanbases than all but a handful of Pac 12 schools.

Honestly, if the Pac 12 showed up tomorrow and asked ISU and KSU to join a Pac 14, we'd be foolish to join.  That's not going to happen, but the relative of health of the two conferences seems to have gone in different directions since the attempted raid/merger.

I think that we had it wrong all along and are just now realizing it.  I know I thought that the PAC was a better place for Tech but I now realize that I was wrong.  The Big 12 was better then because the average of the individual football programs was better.  And it still is, even with the current membership.  It just took a few guys doing the math and realizing that while the PAC 10 was more stable, it was not as profitable.  Or at least that's the way I see it

Armed with a deadly weapon and still got his ass kicked by a preppy cheerleader.  That sums up Aggie like nothing else

The Big 12 is in a better financial spot than the ACC and a significantly better financial spot than the Pac 12, which has also become complete ass in revenue sports.

I just can't see what incentive there will be for Big 12 schools to move conferences, compared to the financial gaps and butthurt that lead decision making in 2010.

UT and OU get plenty of marquee non-con games to make up for the perceived blandness of the rest of the league, and the 14 team ACC/Big10/SECs have exposed the reality that most leagues are a couple of blue bloods and a collection of also-rans.  All you do by changing conferences is start playing new also-rans who you now have zero history or familiarity with, that are on complete opposite ends of the country.

After the dust settled from the last round of big moves, it has become very clear that the PAC 10 needed the Texhoma Four much worse than the Texhoma Four needed the PAC 10.

I honestly believe that if the PAC could get KSU and ISU, they would significantly upgrade the viewership and interest in their football conference.  Not that it is going to happen, but those two programs are better than the median of a PAC 12 program in value

We were well represented and pretty loud. I thought the attendance was lousy for the first homestand against their main rival WS champs on a holiday, but we didn't have any problems with any Rangers fans.
