  1. Not technically downtown, but close...  Anyone know what they're doing with the open field/parking lot on Stratford in between Zilker and MoPac?  They've had it fenced off for a month or so and look like they're doing site prep work, but it's not for the whole area.  Kind of like they're putting in a driveway or something.

The Babers/Hardge show is growing on me. It's taken awhile. Still too heavy on the Rod monologues.

Does it not bother you that Hardge seems to be a complete moron who remembers literally everything incorrectly?  Seems like if it isn't printed out in front of him, he fucks up the details of any historical topic brought up on the show.  Wrong person involved, wrong winner/loser, etc.  I can't even recall what it was earlier this week, but even Rod seemed to realize how off Hardge was and tried to get them to the break immediately.

The OG 9.95 wars go back to Jerry Scarbrough and Robert Heard.  They mailed their newsletters at the time.  And eventually, upgraded to FAX for breaking news!

This is how I got hooked into following recruiting.  Buddy's dad was a mid+ level donor, season tickets for decades, etc.  He would get the faxes, read them, and then mail them immediately to his son.  We had some big lecture hall class together w/ another sports minded friend who brought the Houston sports page to class everyday and we would take turns reading UT recruiting info and Oilers/Rockets writeups.  This was leading up to Ricky's announcement, so it must have been 1994? I remember thinking how awesome the pull of Texas football (state, not U) overall was that the 2 best RB in CA would be headed here for college instead of USC/UCLA.

I can see someone getting sick of  American self-congratulation particularly as we plunge toward an embrace of fascism.

Not sick enough that he won't tour here and take millions of American dollars though, amirite?

Full disclosure I have tickets to see him at Moody in Oct.  I didn't pay a couple hundred bucks for a political rant - quite literally the opposite - so that's kind of a bummer.  But whatever...I'll go to the pisser and trade my mortgage for a beer and hope my shrooms have kicked in by the time the music starts.

  5. Gonna stand by my man and predict failure for McLaren over the next 2 years minimum.  The car is wonky and asking a rookie to do better than a seasoned vet in it isn't going to yield a better result.

This big bitch flew right over my house, insanely low today.  Was making dinner and had that ‘better run outside, something special is flying over’ feeling.

Caught her at 49th and Lamar last night and yeah - super low relative to distance from AUS, imo.  Immediately recognized her from your post though - thanks!

  7. Huge fan of ATX Cocina, but depending on what kind of date night you're looking for, it may not have the ambiance you want.  It's busy and loud, so not quite the romantic vibe, imo.  Kick ass food all the way though, no doubt.
