I have a soft spot for this restaurant. We frequent it a lot, still. Food is always good.

I've been a fan of ZTejas for as long as I can remember.  Can't even comprehend the number of meals I've had there.  A friend and I went one last time today, as a tribute to the likely 50+ lunches we've had there over the years - it's her favorite spot and allows dogs, so that's where we ate probably 80% of the time over the past 20 years.

Not a single item was the same recipe as it has been for decades.  Cornbread isn't in the cast iron pan and was flavorless.  Queso was thin, almost white, and had pico in the cheese (like mixed in, not a garnish on top).  She got the artichoke chicken stack and couldn't eat it - the vegetables had a sweet sauce/marinade on them and the sauce for the chicken had a visible layer of grease across the top.  Really disappointing, especially when trying to hit up a favorite spot one last time for the memories.

  2. What is Baker coming back from?  Being a tool that wasn't worth making the franchise QB? Comeback POY typically comes back from injury, not insult.  Tannehill is the only recent CPOY that righted his stats/reputation rather than return from an injury.  He did that by taking over a 2-4 team, going 7-3 and to the playoffs and beating Tom Brady in Foxboro on the way to the AFC CG.

That team was scary and underrated.

    Well yeah, gorillas are scary.

To tie Pittsburg State back into this thread, one of our favorite aggy HC is not only an alumni, but got his first collegiate HC gig there:

Just rewatched the last ten laps and was coming to mention this lol

Glad I wasn't imagining things.  Maybe it's just the angles available at Silverstone.  Will have to pay attention next year.

That said, this year has been an absolute disaster for him.

I'm the King of Danielstan, but dude has got to produce something.  The car isn't a dog and he's a vet - figure it out.  What I don't understand is how he's not able to clear the midfield at all.  How he can't get into the points, at the very minimum, is a complete mystery.  Can't pass true midlevel, young drivers and can't help McLaren get in that "best of the rest" fight.  Huge bummer.

  5. Obviously the best race we've seen in quite a while, for all of the reasons already mentioned, but I wanted to add another and see if anyone else agrees:  The camera work.

I first noticed it on the L2 restart, just being blown away by how fast the cars looked on screen.  I've been following for years and been to multiple GP in person and was caught off guard by having that reaction to F1 on tv.  Several other times during the broadcast caught me as well, although I can't quite recollect which right this minute.

I don't know dick about how these races are filmed, and really only notice the production when the director is following a shit battle and/or missing a good one.  I'd be curious if there were different cameras, or a different production crew or director, or if anyone else had similar thoughts around just how fast the action looked yesterday.

Montezemolo: 'Accepting hybrid power unit era, my mistake'

Former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo believes that in hindsight, the introduction of the 1.6 litre hybrid V6 turbo power unit era was a mistake.

The Scuderia's level of performance has suffered since the advent of hybrid engines in Formula 1, with Ferrari collecting just three wins, all achieved in 2015, in the past three seasons.

Montezemolo admitted he hasn't been surprised by Mercedes' utter domination of Formula 1, given the fact that the German manufacturer started working on the hybrid concept ten years ago!

"Niki Lauda recently confessed to me that Mercedes was working on it since 2007," Montezemolo told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

"That is why they were so adamant during the (rules) negotiations," he claimed.

With regard to the decision to steer Formula 1 into a hybrid era, the former Ferrari boss admits that supporting the change was a big mistake for the Scuderia.

"I made a mistake, yes.  But I felt that I could not put Ferrari in a position antithetical to progress. A fearful Ferrari could not be my Ferrari," he concluded.

  7. Salt Lick has lost it's charm for me.  Way too big and busy these days, especially w/ the below par food being served.  I'll always remember the joy of being a broke college kid and eating like a king for $20, but going there doesn't bring me any of those memories, only annoyance of an hour wait in the heat, being packed in w/ a thousand tourists who think they're eating 5* cue while I cringe at every bite.

Went to lunch with an old friend yesterday and he asked me to be his best man. Before I accepted, I asked him when he's getting married. He says September 10th..... my whole demeanor and expression changed. He KNOWS that's the day of Texas vs Alabama! WTF! I directly tell him, "that BETTER be an evening wedding or I'm not going."

He's a Texas fan as well and says, "don't worry, it's at 5pm. I waited until the schedule was set in stone that Texas and Bama are playing at 11am before I made the final decision on the time." He also tells me that the two of us and the groomsmen are going to a bar near the venue that day to watch the game, then we'll get ready for the wedding. With that being the case, I accepted.

However, I was curious to why he picked that day. Apparently his fiance wants to get married on the day that they started dating. Understandable. The down side is that it'll be hard for him to enjoy Texas football going forward. His fiance is a sports fan, but doesn't care about the Longhorns or any college sports. She's mainly pro sports: Cowboys, Rangers, Stars and Mavericks.
