Fuckity fuck fuck fuck. This is not a national title-level coaching staff. If Anwar is right (huge if), this is a big red flag on Herman.

Manny is still hunting too right??

Most people are reporting its gonna be Major, which might allow for a soft landing spot for one or both of them since they coached with him at UH.

Judging by the straw poll, not only is tfloss valued by you guys, he's fucking bringing it regarding insights and data, so yeah, let's print his insipid, regurgitated nonsense, dip it in molten bronze and post it as a trophy in the longhorn netdom hall of fame.

Personally, I prefer my trophies dipped in gold, but to each his own.

They still have that Mack guy

    What the fuck Jon Gruden???

Fangio had the Bears playing great D last year before they added Mack. He is, or was til now, the best DC in the NFL. The Bears defense will still be good, but this is a big loss for them. Fangio's mixed zone coverages are a huge part of their success beyond just the personnel.

While that would be a great hire to replace Orlando, I'm not sure why Aranda would do it.  Yes i know he and Herman are long-time friends - but isn't Aranda waiting for either a HC gig or a NFL call up?  He's already the highest paid assistant in college - would we really top that?

I generally agree with this and thinks it’s unlikely we would get Aranda, but maybe him getting an up close look at the Ogre’s incompetence will drive him to flee that sinking ship. They went 10-3, but that roster has issues and I doubt anyone who's good at coaching watches Ogre's process and expects it to continually produce good results.  Not to mention that if burrow doesn’t fall in their lap, they’re screwed this year.

Also, while they had a pretty good season at first glance, their only good win was Georgia. After that, it’s a very limited Mississippi State squad and beating UCF by 8 with its backup QB. Once again, the beauty of SEC scheduling and there only being 1 actual good team in the SEC West.

They're losing their fucking mind over Isiah Spiller being ranked in the 500's.  Their only real argument for a bump is 'Why would Jimbo prioritize a low 3 star'.  Barton replies that Spiller did nothing in the all-star game and literally no one talked about him in the practices leading up to the game.

Good thing they didn’t just lose the only good running back on their entire roster to the draft.

  7. Since Kirby and Clay are still feeling around in the dark to try to find OCs, I hear there’s a real up and comer in these parts by the name of Drewek Mehrhime who could be available for the right price.

It's not his fault we only made 2 3-pointers tonight.  It may be somewhat his responsibility that they threw up 22 of 'em.

This is my favorite argument from Shaka defenders. Well, the team will make more next game. Never mind that we have a perimeter-oriented system with no one who can consistently score on the perimeter.

I’m not sold on this team in any way and thinking we are catching teams when they are down from injuries.  Good for us we are winning but I just don’t see an offense just seems like random stuff.

I'm right there with you. We've been fortunate in who we've played, but I do like our offense the best with both Ramey and Coleman on the floor.  It leads to the least amount of pointless perimeter passes and weak screens.  This offense still devolves to what it always has with Shaka way too often.

  10. Febres has really been coming on as an all-around player, instead of a guy who just stands at the 3 point line and shoots with mixed success has been big for this team. We're still a little low on playmakers, but with Febres improving and also Ramey getting more and more comfortable as the season wears on, we could be in a good spot by the end of the year.

I liked our lineups against WVU that had Ramey and Coleman on the floor together. Sine Roach has been a bit of a mess, those two guys are our best combination of playmakers that keep the offense productive.

Also, the Big 12 is looking softer than expected this year with teams like WVU and KSU struggling due to injuries and other issues. So far, we've done a great job capitalizing against struggling teams. Hopefully we can keep that up tonight.

6'5" 230 with ball skills, maybe they will leave Malcom Epps at WR and develop him into a Collin Johnson/Hakeem Butler type.

I thought the latest 9.95 report was just that -  Epps was looking more and more like he'll stay at WR.

Expect Epps to stay at WR his whole time here. He's not putting on weight like the staff thought he might be able to, and he's always been a terrible blocker. On the bright side, it sounds like he flashed quite a bit in practice this year as a guy who can go up and grab fades and body out corners for back shoulder throws and comeback routes.

We had freshman as primary backups this year.

We did and it wasn't pretty. Go watch the firs quarter of the OSU game where OSU put up 21 points and over 200 yards if you need to jog your memory.  Cook is the only guy who's seen meaningful reps and looked even halfway decent.  Boyce was terrible, Green and Jamison didn't play and Thompson really, really struggles mentally. Thompson blew the coverage on the TD in the WVU game, he blew a bunch of coverages in the Sugar Bowl, and pretty much every time he played this year.

I'm glad we got so many good CBs in the 2018 class, but even about half the highly rated guys end up busts. If one or two of Green, Jamison, Thompson don't develop over the offseason, then this team is in serious trouble at corner in a conference that routinely runs 4 wide sets and attacks the weakest link mercilessly. I don't buy that there weren't any JUCO CBs who could improve this roster for next year, and both starting spots have been vacated so you can sell playing time pretty easily regardless of the rankings of the 2018 guys.

Anyways, I guess the staff is betting on all the guys developing, but we'll have to some serious good luck with guys developing and staying healthy to survive.

If there is a graduate transfer CB that is good enough to play at Texas and is an obvious day 1 starter or doesn't mind competing with 5 stars waiting in the wings that all things being equal will get PT over him, I'm sure the staff would be all over that guy.  Hard to find.

Right but my question was more why we didn't go after any JUCO's this cycle and still aren't before NSD2. I understand that quality grad transfer CBs aren't just growing on trees. It doesn't seem like the staff is worried at all about outside corner next year, which seems odd to me because that and LB appear to be the thinnest position groups on the team next year and we already signed one JUCO LB and have another coming in to visit in a couple weeks.

They were proactive by signing the best defensive back group in the history of the program last year.

I would call that pretty proactive.

Sure but we signed 2, maybe 3 CBs in that class (depending on what they do with Jamison) with only one guy older than them on the entire roster who hasn't shown much ability at all. So we basically have 2 second years guys to play outside CB with Boyce and a TR FR in Watson backing them up.  That's not a depth chart that inspires much confidence going into next year.

  15. Has anyone heard anything about us going for a JUCO or grad transfer CB? Doesn't make sense why the staff doesn't seem to be going after someone who can at least be depth at that position next year. Our 2019 outside CBs are: Cook, Green, Boyce, and Watson (Caldwell is coming off an injury and raw so won't be ready to play).  Even if both Cook and Green develop like we hope, we really have nothing behind them.  Until I see otherwise, I don't really view Boyce as much of an option. He was terrible whenever he got playing time this year. A single injury to either of them could really kill our whole defense. It'll be OSU game all over again. Maybe we could move Thompson to outside CB if Jamison takes over the Nickel spot, but I'm not sure Jamison can hold up in run support the way Orlando requires the Nickel to in his defense.

I don't really care one way or another if Herman is going to call the plays, but he damn sure needs to shake up the staff accordingly if he is going to continue to do it. It's pointless having an OC up in the booth basically just watching the game like some $200 donor.

Such a good point. If Herman is going to call plays, then we should have someone who’s a solid QB coach and a great recruiter in that position, like....Tim Beck.
