Red Bull is not a car manufacturer (I know, shocking)...if they become a back marker, I wouldn't be surprised to see them just pull out of F1 completely.

I would be very surprised. Energy drinks are basically all marketing and F1 provides a shitload of marketing value for them. On top of that, RBR makes a ton of money thanks to the budget cap. They would probably spend close to 9 figures on marketing in F1 annually if they didn’t own a team. Instead, they get even more marketing value from it and make money on the team thanks to the budget cap.

The only thing I could see them doing is selling VCARB and ditching their powertrains department and being a customer team, because the powertrains are a huge money pit and they don’t get much additional marketing gain from VCARB. But I would be shocked if they got rid of RBR.

I can't believe they did it in the middle of the season. Worth noting he isn't just the TP, he's the CEO...doing it now in season with new regs coming up is wild.

Huh? It's been known for a while he would be out at the end of the year. How does firing him midseason change anything?  The team has been working on the new regs for a while now, and Horner was not a technically-minded team principal. This does very little to affect the new regs work, and it's not like RBR has any shot at the title this year. Plus, Horner is not very popular even within RBR. I struggle to see how firing Horner now is a bad move or changes anything.

Interesting query.  I think he could kick ass at Williams.  I'm a James Vowles fan.

lol wut. Williams has terrible facilities and a limited budget. They're not even sniffing the top 5 teams Max should consider unless the Merc engine is 2014 levels of better than everyone else, and even then they'd be 3rd out of 4 teams with a real chance to fall behind Alpine in a year or two.

I think Mercedes would get rid of Russell before Antonelli.

Definitely. That's why Merc hasn't resigned George yet. They're waiting to see if Max will sign with them and then they're going to drop George like a rock.

  4. If I'm Max, I would sign a one year deal with either Merc or Aston, depending on what he knows about the Honda engine for next year. That way he can see who has the best engine/car in 26 and flip to that team the following year. He's hands down the best driver, so almost any team would jump to have him in 27.  If he goes to AM, I bet he tries to get Toto to only sign George for one more year, so the Merc seat will be open in 27.

    1. Sounds like he's set to be the closer next season with Volantis seemingly having the Friday starter role locked down

    2. This article makes it seem like Harrison and Riojas are both set to return

Both of these updates gruntle me greatly.

Nagy telling Venables who to play is awesome. This keeps getting better and better.

My thoughts exactly. I hope Nagy turns into their version of Trent Baalke and Littlefingers his way into sticking around for the next decade and driving off any good candidate who would otherwise consider OU. No fucking way any legit, proven coach would want to step into a situation where Nagy has the higher ups' ears and is getting to decide who they have to take while operating on a shoestring budget.

"He's not gonna end up here but others will have to pay. It’s a fantastic time to be a Texas fan."

This is TexAgs-level moral victory rationalizing. It's up there with "we didn't land the kid, but at least him going to [insert big program here] proves our coaches can evaluate" from the Strong days. And I guess it's going to be repeated ad nauseum once we lose Perry-Wright and Turntine the same way we lost Edwards.

And I don't know why we're even talking about Wafle. USC and Ohio State are offering him two-year, $2.5 million NIL deals and he's going to one of those schools. But I guess they had to get in a bidding war so it's actually fantastic for us, or something.

I assumed he had more room on the track, but that would have been the most fucking impressive pass in who knows how long if he could have pulled it off, assuming physics doesn't exist lol

The most ridiculous part of that attempt was that even if there was room for him to try the overtake on the grass, all Oscar had to do was keep him on the grass and then Lando would have to back out because he wouldn't be able to brake late while his left wheels are in the grass.  Not only was it a misjudgment, but it wasn't likely to work even if he had the space.

Apparently the groundhog put a hole in the floor. Solid little animal.

Bahaha that’s incredible! That could only happen to a Ferrari driver.

Turns out he had a damaged car. emoji2373.png

Still irrelevant to blaming about his strategy. There was nothing Ferrari could do. He was too slow to clear traffic so they had no choice. Keeping him out on the mediums would’ve been worse.

I’m sure Lewis is pissed too. He’s now behind Charles. Ferrari strategy is trash.

TIL there’s a magical strategy that makes up for being drastically slower than your teammate.
Lewis started on mediums and had no pace. There was no way to avoid pitting him into traffic. He just wasn’t fast enough to gap the back marker hard runners in his first stint.

  12. Lando doesn’t have the  mental makeup or wheel to wheel composure to be a world champion right now. He might be able to get there someday, but this season won’t make it any easier for him.

Got to think this is to stop the clearing house organization ending booster deals? Canaday and other deals like it can’t and won’t be legit in that committees eyes. Title IX seems to be the vehicle they use to find standing with the goal of stopping so they can still draw those upper end payments.

No. Title IX is only about compensation coming from the school, not private funds. The plaintiffs are arguing the $20.5 million House settlement amount from the schools to athletes must be split equally between genders, just like athletic scholarships, otherwise it violates Title IX. It's not settled whether rev share from athletics would have to be treated the same as scholarships under Title IX because this has never happened before, but the current law around Title IX would indicate it probably would be treated the same. However, the Title IX interpretation could always be overturned entirely, or a judge who doesn't like the Title IX rulings could easily find a reason why this should be treated differently than scholarships. My guess is the latter will happen. I'd be very surprised if this case results in requiring equal split of the rev share, but it's certainly a possible outcome.

On top of that, it's pretty much a guarantee that this clearinghouse for NIL contracts will generate lawsuits as soon as they turn down an NIL contract for an athlete. So while the House Settlement has been finalized, it's  still all up in the air until the legal challenges that are coming get decided.
