I'm still irate about that abortion of a race put forth by Ferrari that robbed Charles of a win, or at least a podium but the reasoning behind it is pretty interesting. As early as Lap 8, Ferrari made Charles change his engine mapping to the most conservative setting that started clipping on the straight at about 280. This is a very significant loss of time. So they were seeing concerning signs of plank wear from the get go. They continued to have Charles on conservative engine modes and some lift and coast through the second stint. Amazingly, Charles was able to keep first place despite this, which is a testament to the pace of the Ferrari at that ride height and the difficulty of following in Hungary. Finally in the third stint they massively increased his tire pressures so the plank would ride higher and stop wearing. This in addition to still having the most conservative engine mode lost him about two seconds per lap throughout the final stint. I guess Ferrari was better off doing all this shit rather than Charles winning and getting DQ'd, but I honestly might have preferred seeing a dominant win even if it got stripped.
Anyways, Ferrari has struggled with plank wear/ride height all year and the new suspension does seem like it has improved things but obviously isn't a magic fix. I guess Ferrari can feel vindicated in their claim that this new design is up there with McLaren if not for the plank wear issue considering Leclerc was absolutely gapping Piastri at the start and able to keep the lead despite the low engine modes, but all that and five bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
