  1. The Cult of Maalik Murphy is even weirder than The Cult of Teh Major. At least Applewhite was often a productive QB at the college level who played his whole tenure with Texas. Murphy's been vehemently defended in bizarre ways since his commitment. His commitment thread remains hilarious. You have several posters at that time saying "his footwork is weak", "he's a statue in the pocket", "he's a long strider", "he's scared of contact", "he doesn't make his reads fast enough" etc., and people were howling about it. Now we have a 55 page thread on the guy and some of the posts throughout it are almost breathless panting about his potential.

He's still the same guy. Hasn't developed a lick. He has the accuracy of a broken clock. Might be a nice guy and all, and I hope he does well at Duke and beyond because, sure, why not? That said, anybody taking comments about the outlook for the guy personally must have other weird shit going on.

Gerry had an interesting comment this morning regarding Williams on OTF.

Can you not do stupid shit like this? What is it going to take? Do we need to just neg bomb you every time you pull this kind of stunt? The only way you add value here is when you provide information that you've weaseled or whittled your way into, source it, and fail to add your own thoughts. That almost counterbalances all of the other queenish shit like this that you bring to the table. Almost.

Do you feel knowing how the old money is with regards to player compensation that if teams are able to pay players and have their own budget through the university that it would affect donations to our NIL efforts?

I just said as much, and it will be true everywhere. Collectives will still exist and be a tool that a HC will lean on, same as corporate.

  4. Guys talking about salary caps and such, whatever happens with collective bargaining will still have zero impact on NIL. Outside parties can do whatever they want with players with the NCAA being put to sleep, whether these are corporate deals or boosters still doing work, players will get paid outside of any salaries. Not saying collectives wouldn't diminish in value, because they would. Just saying that the days of someone else paying guys while we idiots as Texas fans look at with our noses up are long gone. Moving forward, Texas is one of the big boys in all of this irrespective of how involved or uninvolved the schools get.

That fucking article is so over-the-top unbelievable that I had to scroll back up to doublecheck the author. Olin Buchanan is a fucking artist. He'd be the greatest troll of all time if he wasn't so completely serious. There is too much content from that article that reads like satire for it to make any sense to paste in pieces. People just need to go over there and read it. It's amazing. Here's the end of the article, which is probably my favorite section:

"Aggies have been warned to only be “cautiously” optimistic about next season.

Enough happened on Saturday — including the addition of center Kolinu’u Faaiu from Utah through the transfer portal — to remove the “cautiously” disclaimer.

    That’s no joke."

God. That is so fucking good. This idiot and the other idiots thinking ATM is going to be good this season are in for quite the experience. They're myopic yokels who are willfully ignorant about the level of dogshit they've amassed on their roster.

Also, The Elk claiming to have rebuilt the program's culture in 4 months is outstanding. He helped build the prior shitty culture. He was Jimbo's right hand man for 4 of the 6 seasons in which cancerous rot ultimately became the "cultural foundation" of the program that the same writers and fans were touting until Fisher was unceremoniously thrown out on his ass in November. Good thing "culture" can just be wiped away promptly and then freshly, quickly replaced. That's just how it works. Right.

Sooners ON3 is very optimistic about sealing it with Damonic Williams this weekend. Does anyone here know any more?

What is known is that others were ahead of Texas on planning for that situation, unlike with Toia, the Arizona white guy, Alexander or another few that could materialize.

I’ve thought all along since Williams announced that it would be a hail mary for Texas to land him.

Hell yes! That means we get Gus Johnson on the call and Big Noon Kickoff covers the pregame! What's bad about that?

Nothing. Uniform fashion and game times are two Surly issues that dorks get absurdly passionate and picky about with very little value for the rest of us. I knew clicking on this thread that a) it would probably confirm an 11am Big Noon kickoff and b) multiple people would be immediately upset about it and somehow surprised.

Now, conspiracy theories about the SEC getting involved with a non-conference game airing on Fox? Didn’t see that silliness coming.

  8. I have Baylor down as one of the 3 sure wins on Colorado’s schedule. This is going to be a really, really bad team. I’m kind of hoping for a return to the Kevin Steele era and we might just be getting that.

I am happy to tell you what I know and why…so you can be happy to believe whatever you would like. I did my undergrad at SHSU (MBA @ UT) and am a fraternity brother of Conner’s dad. I could call him and he would answer, but I am not at that point in my life where I need  this drama. What I CAN tell you is that his dad is a solid dude and would never make excuses for injury, or allow his son to do so.  Believe what you want but be careful with your passive aggressive bullshit post.

I believe your thoughts, to be clear. That’s what makes things interesting between what you’ve been told and what the 247 reporters posted in quotes from Elko after a practice. Someone is bullshitting someone else. I obviously want it to be Elko lying in public.

Solid start then by Elko then to start to close that gap quickly.

It’s funny watching their posters, who you can tell most of them know it’s bullshit, tout Texas’ interest and “offers” with all 3 of those players. It’s kind of grim watching them discuss recruiting, but also very satisfying.

    I think he might be.

There are better guards/wings in the portal compared to bigs so that already naturally creates a premium. He's also a special athlete for a guy his size.

If he’s worth the premium, then someone will pay it. Texas isn’t short on NIL for basketball. If they think they have to have him, they can afford him. They may have a different opinion than you guys, though.

I'm not going to spend the time to talk about the roster in detail because you've already made up your mind.  Nothing I say is going to change that.  So instead of wasting time, we can wait until they play the games and see who is right.  How about that?

My mind isn't made up on much of anything, particularly college football teams before the spring portal even closes. I've offered concrete thoughts on why I think CU, as it stands, won't be better than 3-9/4-8 in 2024. I asked you to support your view on why we should expect vast improvement. You've done nothing since but be an evasive child using weak rhetorical tactics that are likely useful only in the comments section of HuffPo and Slate articles.

It's obvious that you're just intimidated that we're going to discover that you likely can't name a starter outside of Travis Hunter and Shilo Sanders on CU's defense and likely couldn't even tell us what schemes to expect from the new offensive staff heading into this season. Breaking News: you've already shown yourself in that regard, which is what has us here.

Dude, nobody can prove anything until they play games.  Are you slow?

I'm not slow, no. That said, the Dunning Kruger Effect is certainly shining brightly in this exchange.

No one is asking for "proof", just that you make even a vague attempt to support your position. You can cite facts in the form of player and coaching roles that offer up reasons for your optimism regarding "much improved". Or offer informed opinions about the team's outlook. Instead, you've chosen to take the tact of being overly literal and tedious as a means of hoping the rest of us fail to notice that you don't know a fucking thing about the subject matter in which you keep inserting your witless and vapid comments.

Shit, forgot about that rule already. Tough luck :(

What is irritating about your first post is the way you indicate that "they" have conveyed to someone, maybe only you, that that guy is the target. All Gerry did, in a generic portal thread, was state that Arkansas' stud punter was in the portal. That doesn't immediately indicate that he's thinking Texas is in on the guy. Christ.

Comparing Torchy’s or Velvet to taqueria tacos is apples and oranges to me. Sure, both are tortillas wrapped around a filling just like apples and oranges are both fruits. The comparison ends there. They are completely different products and it’s not some sort of crime against humanity to like both.

    Good point.

I want to go to this new Euro/Texan place called Blue Tuba at the old Harold's In the Heights location in Houston. It sounds absurd. They have "tacos" on their menu, apparently, that will make Velvet's seem traditional.

Hey dipshit, they don't play the games until fall, but on paper the team looks better.

I provided a legitimate challenge to a premise you continue to promote without any supporting facts. You stating something repeatedly doesn't make it so. That considered, you've proven to be a low information poster on most subject matter and certainly the game of football, so your best response is probably a banal platitude coupled with another unsupported opinion.
