She's coming home, y'all!
My family was in the market for a lab puppy already. We have a 4 year old black lab named Rocco that we got through the Heart of Texas Lab Rescue (HIGHLY recommended, btw), and had already setup an appointment for early November to meet some black or yellow lab puppies with them. I clicked on the banner ad today and saw that a fellow poster who lived 15 minutes away had a yellow lab puppy that needed a home. That felt like a sign. We're in the market for a yellow lab puppy, and there's a poster down the street who needs to find a home for one. It's all coming together.
We brought the family and Rocco down to meet this sweet girl and after a few short minutes of trepidation, she happily sought out and accepted pets from each of the four humans in the family.
Brought Rocco out of the car to meet his soon-to-be new sister and they got along great. Rocco is typically a VERY enthusiastic play partner, so I was a little concerned about him being too high-energy for a somewhat skittish girl. But he calibrated his energy levels so well with her that it all just felt like a great fit.
Thanks so much to @Felix and his lovely wife for taking this sweet girl in, caring for her, and finding her a new home. Which will be our home. She's gonna miss the acre of land to run around on and will have to adjust to our much smaller backyard. But she will be loved. She comes home tomorrow and I will update with pictures. Unless the wimmens in Felix's family decide they can't part with her, which would be understandable.
She and Rocco are going to be best buds and she's going to be get all the love she needs from @irishtexan and his beautiful family. We'll miss her but this is the best outcome we could hope for!

Surly comes through again! One of our own has invited her to join his lovely family! I'm not going to out his username but he can pipe in if he wants. I'm proud to be part of this community of assholes. We get to say goodbye to her tonight and tomorrow she goes to her new home. The women folk are already getting weepy about it.

Will she be ready by the last tailgate of the season?
She's ready now. We just got confirmation that she's parasite free and she's up to date on all shots. Just need the right person/people to take her home and give her the love she richly deserves. I've been working with her some and I think she's full yellow lab. She's young enough that with training I think she'd make a great hunting dog or just a wonderful family pet. She is so calm and she's pretty damned smart too. Frankly, I wish I could keep her.

(also, that exercise equipment looks rather dusty)
Exercise equipment? You mean storage appliances? Don't get me started.

i do like that we're trying to find excuses to remind everyone over there we have carriers.
"i'm directing the gerald ford over to the eastern mediterranean to help israel"
"sir, what can a carrier do for close combat support?"
"quite literally nothing."
It can do a bunch. Tactical reconnaissance, delivery of supplies both humanitarian and military, supplemental air defense, etc. That's before even considering offensive combat operations.

Goodness. If my remodel were a little further along I'd be on the first flight from DTW.
She's precious. If I didn't have 4 boxers already she'd be staying.

Yellow lab mix or maybe pure. Female. Vet estimates she is about 3 months old. She was dumped in the county near a friend's place.
She's heartworm negative and she just got all her needed shots today.
Looking for a good home. Super sweet. Quiet so far in the 3 days we've had her. Haven't heard her bark once. Acts like a lab. Loves to chase a ball. She's 38 lbs but will most certainly get bigger. 50+ lbs probably. Crate trained.
Very social but a bit shy considering her experience. Haven't tried her around my other dogs yet because they are big and rough so not sure how she is with other dogs but I doubt it's an issue at this point.
PM if interested. No fees. We just want to find this sweet girl a good home.

I was sitting in the upper deck exactly even with the goal line on that side of the stadium. Wasn't crazy about those seats until that play. It was a perfect view of a glorious moment.
I, too, was there in similar seats. Only Shootout I've attended in person. We lost our shit when Stony came out of nowhere.

The Mexican lady who is the cook at Ferris Bar and Grill makes the chips this way and they have to be high on my list of best tortilla chips ever. Cuts every corn tortilla herself and fries those things up almost right before your eyes!
At one of our hospital cafeterias back when I used to have to go in to work, we had a fry cook who made the best migas I've ever had and one of the keys was that he would slice up fresh corn tortillas and fry the strips for the migas as he was cooking the eggs and other fixins. No bagged tortilla strips for him! He left after about a year and I've been in mourning ever since.

Usually those stops for minor offenses such as obscuring license plate or tiny level are used as fishing expeditions for other stuff. If you’re a 45-yo Karen driving a late-model momcar, you won’t get pulled over for that. If you’re a teenager or fit a certain demographic and are driving a beater, you’re more likely to get popped.
I think DPS just likes to shame people. "You should take care of your vehicle" is one I've heard more than once for things I wasn't even aware of. I used to work downtown and my middle aged white self driving various late model vehicles got stopped at least 3 times for that stupid crap. Once for an inspection sticker that expired the day before, once for a bad tail light, and once for, get this, a dirty license plate. Yeah. They're dicks.
-
That's DPS MO alright. They can spot an expired sticker from 300 yards and God help you if you don't have a front plate or all your lights working. Dudes used to sit in their cars at the little DPS office on 15th street across from the capitol, where they have about a 3 block jurisdiction and pull people over at lunch time just to get their jollies.

Medicare is for old people so I'm not really surprised that would be their initial focus.

The Four Seasons Landscaping thing still gets me. Every time I see pics or get a reminder about it I just shake my head in awe and disbelief. How in the ever living fuck could that have been allowed to happen? It's still flabbergasting.

I got that bullshit too. I'm in south Austin.

I don't know much about how all this will play out and it seems pretty cleat that something about he relationship changed over the years. I do know that my wife (no pics) worked for a non-profit that did conventions/training and Leigh Anne Touhy was a featured speaker one year. Let's just say that she wasn't very popular amongst the folks who had to deal with her. Demanding, condescending, conceited, and self important were the words that were used.

Didn't see combat, thank God, but I've crewed every position on an Abrams. Almost impossible to see mines if they are deployed correctly. We mostly liked to operate at night since out night vision/thermal imagers were so good. Many mines use a probe instead of pressure so that it doesn't have to be run over by tracks to explode. They are easier to see in open ground but are more designed to be deployed in vegetation obviously. Those are the ones that really scared us because they were designed to blow a penetrator up through the bottom of the tank. That would usually be the end of the driver. Running over one with a track would usually just immobilize you instead of killing you.

For a bunch of assholes, this group kicks ass. As soon as I found out she was coming to us I told my wife (no pics) "Once we get her cleared by the vet I'll put her up on Surly and I'll bet she'll be in a good home in a couple of days". Surly proved me right.
