Decent input so far, for the most part. I coached a 7th-8th grade boys "did not make MS team" rec team for DS1.
My thoughts...
1 - plan every practice - every minute of every practice - bring in a timeline to follow
2 - dribbling, passing, layups, shots inside the box are 100% the hey
3 - find ways to do drills where there is competition and scoring. Example - if you score, you get N points for N passesMAYBE try to practice free throws, but infrequently, esp at 4th grade.
Also - take a couple of breaks - kids will do what they want at that point - jack up outside shots; sit down; talkWe did the weave as a part of the layup practice. It worked very well.

True, but that was not my angle. His control of the English language and ability to articulate a single thought was in the upper 1% of Finebaum callers. I did not listen long enough for 100 callers, but you get the point.

While driving between two appointments yesterday, I submitted myself to the Paul Finebaum show. He had Billy Liucci as a guest. Before and after, Finebaum took calls. I'll start by saying that Liucci was the smartest person Finebaum spoke to while I was listening.
Liucci mentioned that Elko was taking over the defense and that what happened last year will not happen again this year. IIRC, they had some sort of audio clip of Elko. It's not a ringing endorsement of his co-DCs Bateman and Peterson.
He's losing 3 defensive linemen, a couple of DBs, etc., so diving in to have more ownership is not exactly smart for his career at aTm. Seems like an odd/panic statement this early in his tenure, esp. given that the defense performed OK during the season.
The defense did seem to wane in the latter part of the season in the latter part of games. Conditioning? Tells?
Regardless, it seems odd to publicly declare it...

Basic approach to handling efficiencies in business, government, etc. involves FIRST asking MANY questions:
- What is the charter?
- What do you deliver?
-
Is it being done effectively?
- If not, what can be done to make it effective?
- What are the daily, weekly, etc. impediments to effectiveness?
- How can we get to the desired output meeting the key objectives?
-
Once we address effectiveness, let's address efficiency.
- What is needed to increase output?
- What inputs can we adjust/reduce to get the same output.
Efficiency is a ratio - mostly of output produced over input required to produce it.
Elmo is addressing this from 1 dimension - reducing input. And he and his minions are doing it before actually understanding the problems and getting inputs from the main stakeholders.

Trade! The #Browns are acquiring QB Kenny Pickett from the #Eagles in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 5th round pick (originally from the #Lions
Rumor: A condition for Garrett re-signing was for the Browns to get a Super Bowl QB.
Haslem: Super Bowl Champion Kenny Pickett!-

Metcalf to Steelers for a 2. Steelers extend him 5-$150mm.

Switched from 14 Pro to 16 standard and…dang… this 60hz max refresh rate sucks.
Ordered online, never seen in person. I had 12Pro and 14Pro and thought the 16Pro would be physically larger (its not), and I never used any of the photographic features on the Pros so I went standard.
Turns out you dont notice the 60Hz jerkiness when you upgrade to 120Hz ProMotion display. But you do notice jerkiness when you downgrade from it.
Kinda like watching the occasional standard def programming when youre used to 1080P.
Agree w/ @Handcruser - return the 16. Since you do not really care about the photo features, the main differences between your 14pro and a 16 are:
- 14pro: higher/variable refresh rate (you mentioned)
- 16: USB-C vs. 14pro: lightning charging
- 16: more base RAM
- 16: slightly better battery life
- 16: newer CPU
- 16: 1 oz lighter
Here's a good summary of the differences...

Replying to “myself” again. Dak is worth a premium of some sort. 1.5x-2.0x - not 3x+

Replying to the same message 2x, thinking from a Cowboys perspective.
Basically, Smith gets you 0.8-0.9x of Dak for 0.33x the compensation. The $40mm delta is non-trivial and can help you rebuild the franchise. I am not a Dak hater, but I do believe he is a $35mm-40mm Qb, not a $60mm qb.
It’s almost like these dipshits did not watch what Brady/Bill/massage-man did in NE…

And “it depends”
Problem here is Elmo seems to have stacked his board.
So: yes -> it depends -> Elmo retains control

This is a great move. Workable pro QB for 1-3 years while they rebuild in other domains and dive into the 2026 or 2027 draft class.

Here: He's a real fucking asshole -> as a league, we should not be choosing one college over another.

As a Steelers fan, I kind of like both of these drafts.
Option 1: Shedeur Sanders falls to 21. Not likely, but it would be interesting to see how he'd fare in Pittsburgh. I *think* he'd be better than Fields. Wilson became predictable in the latter half of the season.
Option 2: Golden and Collins to the Steelers in rounds 1 and 2. Steelers need another WR who's not an insane person. Add a good DT to eventually take Heyward's place would be great.Neither of the above will occur, but I like the possibilities.

Point and laugh at Shaka Smart
in Basketball
Posted
We have the "luxury" of Texas and Marquette history of Shaka to help guide us to understand how subpar he is. Even with that, it still does not really make sense that Shaka was hired in the first place.
He was hired 4 years after the Final 4 run, where they went 5-1 (with play-in). After that, his teams we a combined 2-4 in the tournament. The final 2 years, he lost in the first round to a lower seed.
I spent a couple of minutes looking at VCU's 2010-2011 run, and it was a glimpse into VCU's peak performance during the regular season. Looking at info from Sports Reference, VCU was #2 in 3pt attempts and makes, #58 in percentage. They averaged 9/23.8 in games they won and 6.5/21.4 in games they lost. They lived and died by the 3 - and opponent turnovers. That was abundantly clear in the tourney. By my quick count, they had 12 regular season games with 10+ 3s made. However, they had zero in the final 8 games, where they went 3-5.
In the conference tournament (2-1), VCU averaged 8-20.7 from 3. In the NCAA tourney, they averaged 10.2/23.8 from 3 and 13 opponent turnovers. They got really hot while others got cold. In 4 of the 5 wins, their 3pt %-age was higher than the total FG percentage.
For the subsequent 3 years at VCU, their 3-point shooting was significantly worse. Shaka leveraged that outlier into a higher national profile and ultimately a better job.
Even after that f4 run, 2011 KenPom has VCU as the #53 team. Not that it matters...
