Austin City Council to vote on an additional $244mm to fund the caps. Make that "vote to burden the taxpayer by another quarter billion dollars."

My stepson just finished his ACC degree in cybersecurity. It has taken him a very long time (he's 30) -- he's not a classic academic and his dad never helped me out with tuition, etc., but he's plenty smart and ACC served as a great school for him. He's brushing up on some coursework he didn't have to take and then will start interviewing this summer. We're super proud of him.
This is great to hear @jimmyjazz ! Congrats! My youngest is 20. He's not really shown much interest in going back (yet), despite my willingness to subsidize his housing and tuition from the 529 we've built up. That's OK, as he'll figure it out at some point. Just a different path than my other kiddos took.
You may not know yet, but how is the local economy receiving the Bachelors from ACC?

Not many know this (yet), but ACC now confers bachelor's degrees.
Yes.
- Bachelor of Applied Technology.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Bachelor of Applied Science in [Software Development, CyberSecurity]
Youngest child struggled in year 1 of college (not aptitude or capability - freedom, etc.) and I've encouraged him to consider ACC to get a restart.

Is it true A&M has a higher acceptance rate than ACC?
ACC has a 100% acceptance rate, if I recall correctly.
If aTm is accepting people who do not apply, then "yes"
1 hour ago, jimmyjazz said:The difference is that ACC is one of the best community colleges in the country.
This is true. It benefits from the high educational level of Austin. Moreover, they explicitly plan to educate the community for the local businesses, etc.

I was curious, so I looked.
In-district is defined as resides, owning property, or paying taxes in Washington County for 6 months.
Per semester in-district tuition for full-time Blinn attendance: $960. Out of district: $1845. Out of state: $4185. The Texas A&M engineering academy at Blinn-Brenham has an additional cost.
By comparison, Austin Community college is $1275, $4290, and $5295, respectively. ACC district spans 7 counties - and also has an aTm engineering academy path.

Good enough that I'll go ahead and cut-paste the content. Many dislike both Irsay and McAfee, but this was a nice tribute.
QuotePat McAfee reacts to death of Jim Irsay
McAfee, the former Colts punter, shared a lengthy message on social media:
"This is devastating.. Jim had friendships with a lot of his former players.. I was lucky to be one of them.
"Playing for a team that Mr Irsay ran was an honor. He was funny, brilliant, unique, and somehow still wildly relatable for a man who became the sole owner of an NFL team at the age of 37.. and before that, hired as the youngest general manager in the history of the league as a 24 year old.
"He battled his demons, as we all do but, God blessed Jim Irsay with an abundance of compassion.. he wanted to give back/help everybody and everything he saw or knew about… putting a list together of all of the causes/things/people that he’s given to would be an impossible task.. probably well over $100,000,000.. there was even a whale about to get an assist from Jim at one point."The 1st time he and I really had an extended convo was at training camp after the lockout in 2011.. players and front office weren’t allowed to communicate with each other during the lockout but, Jim followed me on Twitter throughout the CBA negotiations.. his first day at training camp, immediately after the lockout ended, he drove his golf cart over to where I was and started firing off questions about Twitter.. He enjoyed the thought of being able to connect with Colts fans all over the world.. he appreciated the opportunity to be able to share some of his thoughts in his own way.. and he absolutely LOVED the idea of being able to give money/experiences/tickets/etc. away to people on Twitter.
"He was a mogul who had a creative artist’s brain.. Everything he did he wanted to do in a big and imaginative way.. his Twitter Giveaways became just that.. he wanted them to be awesome... and they were. He was a Billionaire who yearned to share his wealth in fun ways.
"Anybody that met him would say that he seemingly woke up everyday wanting to help people.. life got in the way sometimes but, anybody who actually knew him, loved him.
"A true anomaly.
"When I decided to retire.. he and I had a 2.5 hour conversation in his office. He was sitting at his desk.. hitting the (crap) out of his vape .. and we talked about everything I was hoping to go do.
"He tried to stop me for a few minutes.. even offered to renegotiate my contract.. and then once he realized my decision was made.. the convo turned into him trying to give me as much game as possible about running a business and maintaining authenticity. He gave me quotes and words to live by.. told me stories of mistakes he and others had made and he promised he would do anything he could to help me in my venture.
"'If for some reason this doesn’t work or you don’t want to do it anymore, you’ll always have a job here at the Colts. You are family.'
"Since that day.. Jim has done everything he can to help me succeed.. He’d join our show anytime I asked, no matter where he was in the world.. He’d send me motivational messages when he heard I was going thru something.. he’d forward articles that he’d come across that he thought I should read.. He’d answer any question I had about decisions I had to make.. and he even offered up his connections if I wanted to 'buy that lovely wife of yours something nice brother'
"Jim was a real one.. and we will all miss the (crap) out of him.
"I send my positive prayers and vibes to his daughters, his grandkids, his loved ones, his staff, and everybody who has been working with Jim for the last 40 years.
"Thank you for EVERYTHING big man.. You were a damn legend. Rest Easy, brother."

I stumbled upon Proven a few years ago and never looked back. I refer everyone possible to them. Just had them out to my new place yesterday to bid some work.I have used Proven for other things and got another bid - from Radiant.
I thought I had sticker shock from Proven, but Radiant was even crazier. Their bids were between 2x and 2.5x of what Proven wanted. And Radiant wanted to upsell beyond that. A realtor we know confirmed - after we asked - that Radiant was super expensive and notorious for the upsell.
I went ahead with a tankless install from Proven. Happy so far.

Apparently, it is a "Mexican Navy training ship" that is touring the world. One report states that its masts are 30 feet taller than the clearance under the Brooklyn Bridge. Poor planning, or they planned to sail the other direction and lost power (no way that thing is 100% sail powered).
2 are dead, 2 in critical condition, and another 20 or so were injured.

Exactly like our rules. Man only. Yep PG and defense
It’s a weird age in that it’s still about having fun but this is competitive as well
For young and/or lower skill level folks, I think “man only” is a great rule.
I coached my son’s 7th/8th grade rec team, which was composed of a bunch of kids who were not good enough to make their MS teams. At the preseason coaches meeting, one coach proposed that we allow zone. I countered, “these are kids who did not make their MS teams. We need to focus on fundamentals. Learn to dribble, pass, make layups, play base defense, hit free throws, etc.”. The guy was adamant and I lost the vote.
Our team went undefeated in the regular season and that guy’s team won one game. His team won the league tourney, as every team’s shooting went cold and the zone finally gelled. His team’s fundamentals were flat from tryouts, but they got a trophy - and learned to play half-court zone.

Quoted around $6k for either tankless or 2x40 in NW Austin.
seems high but it’s 2025 and Austin.
going to get another opinion I think
-
Definitely replacing both. While my initial bias is against tankless, I think I am worrying about the 0.01% problems with them - and that most of the failure problems now have failsafes.

I would think if you had it that bad you could drain the pool and acid wash it and that would be the end of it. Sounds like someone trying to take you for a ride. I have a very reputable and trustworthy expert; I’ll reach out to him and report back.2 hours ago, tbone_ said:Thanks. That was my thought.
It could also be that you are not able to keep enough free chlorine to adequately sanitize and, hence, eliminate the algae. If you have been using chlorine pucks for an extended amount of time, you might have a high enough level of cyanuric acid (stabilizer) that you cannot get enough free chlorine to sanitize.
Leslie's can be good for testing for that. They'll try to sell you all sorts of algaecide, etc. If your CYA is too high, you have a couple of options: (1) drain and refill to get CYA to a proper level (2) put tons of liquid chlorine in (no CYA).

Beware of the copper adding up over time and causing other issues. I have a salt cell chlorinator so pretty easy for me to combat algae with chlorine and only chlorine (never had any in 4.5 yrs).

Two unrelated issues, but I'll start a single thread...
- In a multi-stage remodel we did a couple of years back, we changed the flooring in the bathrooms, leaving a small gap between the floor and the moldings on doors in areas where we removed tile. The guy we had was good, unreliable, and well-priced. He no longer lives in the USA, so we are looking for a decent carpenter to fix this. Recommendations?
-
Wife noticed water dripping out of one of the PVC pipes exiting the 2nd floor attic. 1 of our 2 tank gas water heaters (40 gals each in series) failed and the drip pan was doing its job (woo hoo)! Now I need to replace.
- With the annual freezes we are now having, would those of you with tankless still go with tankless? I assume I want the tankless outside of the house, so failure does not flood my house. Other thoughts or recommendations?
- I've used Proven Plumbing on a few things recently, and they've been competent. Any other recommendations, esp. if I decide to go tankless?

Y'all ought to bet each other whether Ewers will have a more successful career in the NFL than Greg McElroy. Both from Southlake Carroll and both drafted in the seventh round.
For the gamblers among us, that is Greg McElroy's lifetime stat line.

Typically each kid has to touch the ball once, but you might actually double check what the actual rules are. That said, there might be a pre-season coach/commissioner/org meeting where some rules are negotiable. You might be able to get more touches/playing time for each of the kids. These kinds of things are great because it helps you to figure out which other coaches take it too seriously. They're easy to pick out if you propose certain things.
Also - with 6 year olds, I think your experience might be night-and-day compared to what @LCHorn had with 2nd graders. If you successfully get 1 misdirection play out of 6 year olds, you would be coach of the year

Bill Belichick Rides Again: Hired at North Carolina to build NIL NFL Factory
in Football
Posted
Bill Clinton's selection process has come up just about every time some sort of age delta or power dynamic relationship becomes public. I suspect it was fairly low effort on his part. The lower the effort on his part, the less likely he is to get caught - he's not pursuing, etc. Outright pursuit would be fairly obvious. Plus, he probably did not think (or realize) there was anything wrong with what he did.
Jordon's behavior is just strange and I am surprised Belichick is tolerating it. Even if she's his vision of a perfect beauty, her behavior has to be grating at this point. Even if he paid her in advance for 24 months of GFE, he should cut his losses and not kill his legacy.
