  1. Both Crawford and Barron came out of last season believing they were the best CBs on the team and expected to start outside. Jamison stays and Watts transferred in. I think Barron can be worked out cause he still will get plenty of time in the slot. Crawford is who I’ve been more worried about. Yes he should win the safety job but there are people in his ear that believe he should still be a corner and head somewhere that will let him. We shall see over the next day or so if they entered the portal.

Others have alluded to plenty of our guys being recruited elsewhere, so I don’t think this is right. Plenty of young guys that other teams would like to have even if they haven’t produced a ton for us yet.

Murphy, Worthy, Collins, Sweat, Crawford, Barron and Blue have been recruited by other squads this spring. Some harder than others. Worthy was paid handsomely to ensure he will continue to be a part of the program. He was the guy recruited the hardest followed by Collins and Murphy. There are programs that think Murphy could be a game changer and some that think they could better use Collins. A Big 12 team wanted Sweat pretty bad. The coaches are aware of all of this.

    So uh.......which is it?

The guys I know believe the the first statement to be true. That our linebackers and safeties were so bad that it played a major role in how we deployed the DLine.

the questioning of Bo coaching up PK’s scheme is just my personal thoughts. I don’t remember Bo every having a unit that looked as bad as ours and I’m pretty sure he has always coached an attacking style.

Kwiatkowski having his front 4 play some spineless game of catch & release all of last season isn't helping Texas on the defensive side in any way, shape or form. Other staffs in film review last year were rewinding footage repeatedly and laughing with their players about the Texas DL's ineptitude. I'm guessing that's also an effective approach when recruiting transfers at those spots as well.

I knew it was a problem just didn’t know how bad the problem was in regards to recruiting. The guys I know swear next year will be different and that our back seven played a role in the way we deployed our DLine.

They gotta let them attack, and if we are not starting Byron Murphy you might as well fire PK now. Everybody around the programs knows he is the best DT and yet we continue to play other guys ahead of him.

Bo can recruit and coach but I’m starting to think his philosophy just doesn’t match what PK wants out of the DLine guys.

  5. I would expect an “walk-on” deal to be an one off to make number works this year versus an actual program to help a large group of walk on. I just know the staff isn’t worried about numbers at all and if somebody that can help them win enters the portal they are going to go after them. That doesn’t mean they will get said players, cause as we all know they have thought they had kids plenty of times in the past recruiting cycle.

Dude, there is going to be some actual pain, not just also-rans. I hope not, but I expect it.

As to greyshirting, I think you're presuming too much.

I agree. I think the board is going to go up in flames when/if the DT’s leaves. Those are the ones I want to stay that are expected to leave.

The secondary could take a hit from a name stand point but the secondary play hasn’t been great in the past so it is what it is.

My guess is that they pull the plug on guys like Hookfin, Ibrahim (if they haven't already), Goram-Welch, Merrill, Dorbah.

They are also going to have to tell one of the freshmen incoming class to hold off until January to enroll due to numbers if Mathis commits. If Caleb Johnson commits they would have to do that to two I believe. Lance St. Louis would be the obvious one, but I don't know that you can assume Will Stone would be the second one. It might have to be someone like Zac Swanson or Austin Jordan?

With “NIL” I would expect them to just ask somebody to “walk on” if needed for the numbers. I know Beard has told a few walk on offers that with NIL he didn’t expect their families to have to come out of pocket to pay for school.

No idea how involved Gary is. He is allowed to be on the field, so I dont know how much influence he can wield there. I just think back to Strong. Clint Hurt was rumored to be the cop on Strong's staff. He kept players in line and buttoned up. I cant prove it, but I think losing that dynamic exposed Strong. I just think Sark could benefit from having a guy like that on the staff. All of them seem to be players coaches.

I’m friends with a player and an admin from the Louisville teams Strong had. They visited Texas a few times while Strong was in austin. They both said things were night and day different with out Hurts around and felt like that was the biggest reason Charlie didn’t work out at Texas. I don’t believe that to be the case but it does go back to the value of having a few coaches on the staff that will kick ass if you have a soft head coach.

Probably because that is from the recordings the coaching staff uses for film breakdown.  I imagine he could get fired for that.

    Exactly.

Thats not some high school coach who secretly took a video, that’s somebody with access to the practice cut up and inside the program. Sending that to somebody on Twitter wasn’t a good business decision.

Normally we’d wait for a more comprehensive recap but it’s getting later in the day.

The scrimmage wasn’t over until about 2:45.

    — Quinn Ewers looked really good. He made some plays out of nothing. He handled the blitz well and stepped up and delivered.

    — Overall a good day from the receiving options, including Jahleel Billingsley who caught a TD from Ewers. Ja’Tavion Sanders made a play or two. Xavier Worthy caught a TD. Jordan Whittington and Casey Cain were also mentioned, as was Kelvontay Dixon who almost housed a bubble screen.

    — Hudson Card was late on a deep ball to Worthy allowing the DB to knock it down. He’s better on the underneath stuff when given time.

    — As far as we know there were No INTs. Even better news, there were no injuries.

    — Bijan Robinson made his typical unreal cut that led to a TD

    — Obviously the offense won the scrimmage a week after the defense had its way.

We’ll have more as we get it.

If Hudson Card was the QB that had the better day that report would have been 3x longer.

That could be him. I just knew he was in the portal or not with the team within like 2 weeks of the season starting.

I thought he was the LB that Herman and Yancy ran off because they didn’t believe his shoulder was really hurt during the spring so they punished him and called him lazy. Come to find out he transferred and had a legit shoulder issue.
