TCU defensive tackle Damonic Williams is expected to make a decision today. No specific time has been given for an announcement, but we're hearing the decision could come as soon as noon. The ball is in Williams' court.

He is expected to decide between Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and Missouri, after visiting each of the schools in the last 12 days. Williams just completed his official visit to LSU yesterday.

Williams is a top priority for Horns' DL coach Kenny Baker.

It's hard to handicap this decision, although Gerry Hamilton did so in this morning's article and put Texas slightly ahead.

There have been times where Texas, Oklahoma and LSU were likely all ahead in the race for his signature. Who will come out on top at the very end is all that matters.

    **

Cornerback Jay'vion Cole of San Jose State is set to visit Texas later today. The Oakland native made three INTs a year ago after transferring in from Cal Poly.

On Tuesday, Cole told CJ Vogel that he was also considering Auburn and perhaps Michigan State.

    **

Gerry Hamilton is hearing that Texas is out of the running for Michigan State DL Simeon Barrow. Barrow is expected to choose either Miami or LSU.

    **

My question now is: how many more players will Texas possibly go after in the portal?

The Horns are at 81 scholarships. Steve Sarkisian has at least four more to give.

If the Horns were able to add both Williams and Cole, that takes the number to 83.

Adding a punter is a possibility to make the total 84. So would Texas look at another DT, another DB, or perhaps another position where they want more experience?

    Thursday AM: Damonic Williams

Texas is one of four teams awaiting the decision of TCU defensive line transfer Damonic Williams. And that decision could come this afternoon.

The latest from late Wednesday night

Texas did meet with the 6-1.5, 315 pound tackle yesterday evening.

LSU didn't have a high level of confidence as of Wednesday night.

OTF does not know if Oklahoma met with Williams late Wednesday night.

Handicapping teams in order of confidence Wednesday night

    Texas

    Oklahoma

    LSU

    Missouri

And now we wait to see what Damonic Williams decides, which could come as early as today (early afternoon possible).

  3. Portal Kombat: Two hoops transfers to know

New Mexico freshman 6-9 forward JT Toppin is a name to know for Texas fans. Toppin had a tremendous freshman campaign averaging 12.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in 36 games, including 35 starts. He's the younger brother of Obi Toppin. This should be considered a very tough recruitment.

UCLA freshman big man Berke Buyuktuncel hit the portal today, and he's a name to know for Texas fans. The 6-9, 240 pound power forward is from Turkey, and the Horns have someone on staff (yep, that high flyer) that has connections to players in Turkey.

Correct. The thing that got people the most worked up was that he called the coaching “embarrassing”. Folks here won’t like hearing the following but the defense against the poor coaching was the closeness of the final score, including Terry rebutting with folks to that point. “We barely lost!”. Okay then.

    Loser mentality.

I would definitely like another big, but it is possible to win at the college level without having big interior players as long as the team plays good team defense.  Houston had the #2 defense in CBB last year and their starting bigs were 6'7 J'Wan Roberts and 6'8 Ja'Vier Francis. We made the Elite Eight with 6'9 Disu and 6'7 Christian Bishop.

If the season started today, we would have 6'11 Shedrick getting probably 25 min, 6'8 Onyema getting 10 maybe 6'9 Nicholas Codie getting 5 min.  Given the team makeup, I'm going to assume we almost never play with two "bigs" and instead play with a lead guard, 3 rangy guard/forwards and then a center. This wouldn't be a bad lineup:

    • 6'3 Julian Larry
    • 6'5 Tremon Mark
    • 6'6 Tre Johnson
    • 6'7 Jason Kent
    • 6'11 Kaden Shedrick

Or swap out 6'2 Jordan Pope for Julian Larry.  We have really good size now at the guard spots and it opens up a lot of options that we have missed in recent years.

i like Gerry but this feels like spin.. they were all in on Garrison.. now they found players they are higher on at a more reasonable price?  Need to see it

Gerry seems rather blind when it comes to the basketball side...but that could just be what his source feeds him.

  7. Damonic Williams Tuesday Morning Update

TCU transfer defensive tackle Damonic Williams arrived in Baton Rouge for his LSU visit Monday evening. He will remain on campus today before heading back to Fort Worth tonight or early Wednesday morning.

OnTexasFootball believes Oklahoma, Texas and LSU are all very much in the picture. Oklahoma and LSU have an inviting depth chart if Williams chooses to be a heavy snap player in what he hopes will be his final year in college. Williams is also fond of the Texas program, and sees opportunity despite the Longhorns already taking two transfers on the interior.

It's not out of the question Oklahoma and Texas will meet with the 6-1.5, 315 pounder Wednesday afternoon prior to decision Wednesday night or Thursday/Friday.

Texas visits Sunshine State WR committed to Oregon

Per a source at Tampa Tech High, Texas assistant coach Jeff Banks was by the Southwest Florida school for multiple hours to watch Oregon 5-star wide receiver commit Dallas Wilson.

Wilson, 6-3 and 180, committed to Oregon January 17 over Miami and Florida. He has official visits scheduled to Miami June 7-9, Florida June 14-16 and Oregon June 21-23.

The Longhorns offered Wilson September 26, 2023 and have quietly been recruiting him since. Jeff Banks stopped by the school in January. Texas is working to get an official visit from the Sunshine State smooth moving playmaker.
