our basketball team has taken 15 total FTs in its last two games.

If your players can't shoot FT's and you team doesn't like unselfishness, then the thing to do is shoot 3's and holla like you are going to the NBA next year.

I doubt we had the money.  Not many big donors are willing to shell out big money to can a basketball coach at Texas.  That's not on CDC.

Essentially, Perrin as our AD, extended Shaka because he believed having a politically correct coach was more important than wins.

  3. B12 play is right around the corner.   This team is again a last place team or close to it.  We are going to get lapped by Beard's rebuild in year one.  I don't think CDC knows what to look for when hiring a coach or what bad play might be.  He was hamstrung by Perrin's extension of SS, but man, we should have bitten the bullet 2 years ago and canned this fraud.

    That was terrible.

To anyone defending Shaka, please answer this: do you feel Coach Smart gets the most out of his players? Look at the recruiting rankings, look at the potential they show as true freshman, and then weigh that against how they develop and how they play together.

Let's take that exercise one step further: in Shaka's now four-plus seasons at Texas, when can you recall his athletes playing "gestalt" basketball, as in, better than the sum of their parts?

I can only think of once--late last season, during our NIT run, and that was only after playing his usual brand of sloppy, rudderless hoops for the first two games. By the third round, something clicked, and the guys started to play true team hoops on both ends of the floor. All this despite missing their best player and future NBA lottery pick in Jaxson Hayes.

No, we don't have a roster packed with sharpshooters, but there's enough height, talent, and athleticism to compete in the Big 12 and earn NCAA tournament invites.

    And yet ...

When people from Tech and Bailor laugh at you and your college bball team, that's all that needs to be said.  It's obvious the Shaka defenders don't engage the real world.

I don’t think the audience is fellow dissatisfied fans at the stadium, but specifically CDC. I just don’t think a banner will shame him into action

I agree.  They are trying to be patient a la Shaka Smart....  On the other hand, if we can get Steve Perry and Journey to re-unite for the Tech game halftime show and sing "Separate Ways" with Tom's pic on the godzillatron, we might make some headway.

Most data driven analysts predicted we would have a worse record this year. Turns out they were right. Most posters here bought the hype behind our stud WR recruits and just assumed that the new underclassmen starters on defense would be an upgrade over our seniors from last year.

This is correct.  We assumed Herman was an elite coach which is wrong.  He is the same as every average coach that relies on elite senior talent to win football games.  Elite coaches coach up the RS freshman to be champs.  Herman can't do this.  He is average at best.

With Tom Herman, our best shot at making the playoff will be when Ja Quinden Jackson is a junior which is 5-6 years from now.  A coach might get that long at Tech or Bailor but it's not going to happen at Texas.  There is no patience for mediocre.

  7. I'm sorry but the Cowboys are just what the doctor ordered for the sputtering Pats offense.  I was once a loyal Cowboy fan til Jerah fired Jimmy over an inflated ego.  Jerah has been a curse on the Cowboys for 25 years.....

  8. The hydration crap needs to go.  It didn't save Colin Johnsons hammy this year.  Plus the multitude of injuries coming out of pre season camp were on the coaches.  You can't "out physical" a team if the players are beat to hell from practice.  Mensa has no common sense.

  9. In honor of the genius banner I saw in 1994 circling the stadium the whole game.....  Dump Deloss and flush the John.  I will offer, "Pardon the turkey but kill the Tom."  Ta Da.....

Texas has been irrelevant for a decade. This is no longer a powerhouse. Spare me the "We're Texas" stuff. I mean, what does that even mean anymore? These recruits have grown up seeing Texas get their shit pushed in for 10 years. They have seen Baylor and TCU dominate us and have more success this decade. Texas is a 'blue blood' program based on its history. They are no longer an elite football program. They have not had a few down years. It has been a down decade. That is bad.

We won our last NC because of an all world QB. That comes around once in a few generations.

How long are you going to keep this idea that Texas does not need an Urban  type coach to win?

Better pull the trigger now because the current season ticket subscription count is going to take a BIG hit next year.....  and with all the stadium expansion, oh my.  Wait, I forgot. We're Texas and revenue will be the same with a half empty stadium.

Y'all help me compile a list of hirings since we hired and then extended Shaka.

•Obviously Tennessee hired Rick Barnes and they are thriving

•Louisville hired Chirs Mack and ate thriving despite having previously been mired in scandal

•Tech hired Chris Beard, they are thriving

•Auburn hired Bruce Pearl, they are thriving

•Arkansas hired Eric Musselman and are currently #26 in Kenpom with some of the country's best defensive stats

•VCU hired Will Wade and then Mike Rhoades, both of whom are outperforming Shaka

•Florida hired Mike White, they are thriving

•Houston hired Kelvin Sampson, they are thriving

•LSU hired Will Wade from VCU, and he's already done more at LSU than Shaka has at Texas

I don't even feel like continuing at this point. This is just depressing.

Those coaches are all prickly pears and don't play well in the sand box.  They have tempers and are prone to outbursts in public at players.  We can't have that at Texas.

  12. Will the University be able to hire a coach that yells at players?  CDC needs to understand that soft coaching yields poor results.  Does CDC want to get into the fox hole with Smart?  We will know soon.

This sounds good and all, until you realize he doesn't have the ability to identify and hire decent coordinators.  Meh, really?  haha OK

It appears TH is far too emotional.  All the cast off coaches getting gigs at Texas is an example of this.  Critical thinkers with a winning edge would look for an actual winner with fresh ideas but alas we are busy reviving the careers of the average to poor coach.

Elite Coaches - X's and O's matched with elite talent, they tend to attract each other.  Think Riley and his QB's.  They win with young and older players

Average Coaches - These guys preach culture (alignment) and rely on older high talent guys to get wins.  Younger players rarely develop until they "learn on the field" or wash out.

Poor Coaches -  These guys lose with whoever plays for them.  They have a chaotic culture and have no ryhme or reason in their schematics.

TH is average.  CS is poor.  MB is average.  SS is poor.  Mackovic was average.  I am convinced that Belmont does not want to risk losing face with what may come from rolling the dice and getting an elite coach.  Belmont is comfortable with average and can expect a lock down culture which does not rock the boat or risk embarrassment.  Belmont is also comfortable with a poor coach as long as he is the "right" guy, see Shaka Smart.  Get used to average to below average results, it's the Texas way.

    -  This offense has a QB that has proven he can win big games with a good game plan.
    -  This offense has a LT that is projected as a 1st round pick, a two time all ACC RG, and a senior center.

    -  This team has a WR that is playing at an all American level and another WR that is a physical mismatch and a future NFL player.  Round out the WR corps with a talented but young player in Eagles and the Gatorade national player of the year in Smith that showed us through the first few games how talented he was.

    -  This team has a RB that was # 1 in the stare that was being heavily recruited by LSU, tOSU, UGA, and Bama.

With all this talent, this offense is barely functional in their 3rd year with this pro spread system.  Since LSU, ou, TCU, kstate, and isu shut this offense down.  Every player has regressed.  That is coaching guys.  7 coaches including the HC are getting paid big bucks to have the offense clicking.  Yet we can barely put together more than 2-3 solid drives in our games out side LSU.  Make no mistake, a good coach would have this offense putting up 40-50 points a game...

Herman knows our offense is broken.  He said so himself post game.  He’s just a fucking moron and I have no confidence in him and his drinking buddies to fix this.

Herman is no different than the ogre who smashes red bull cans on his head at practices.  He will need to bring in some creativity.  The sooner, the better.  Problem for Herman, like Stoops, he may be the one replaced if his new creativity succeeds.
