Herman has terrible coaching instincts. I don't know if these improve over time, given how long he's been doing this already. His teams are generally dumb...that's a reflection of coaching. He's just not the guy.

When people say "Texas doesn't care enough about football" - this is what they mean: with Urban sitting out there, a lot of schools would already be firing Herman to sign him. Texas will not. And that's why Texas won't be on the same level as the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world.

This.  The dumb mother fucker passed up the field goal early, on the road, and it cost us the game.  He has no intuition for in game management.

I'm not sure why we would ever want a G5 HC here bad.  Charlie was such a clusterfuck we had to react with no plan and no AD.  Tom gets next year and if CDC isn't trying to figure out his next move for the next 12 months he sucks as bad as Herman.   This shit is what we pay him for. we don't pay him for pre game shit or crappy 3rd tier sports. We pay him to get football, baseball and basketball right.

Meyer will not be available after next year.  He is available now.  Time to cut bait and make our move or forever suck.....  Texas football has done less with more than any other school in cfb history, except aggy.

That's what Shaka needs to do to succeed here- be the Mack Brown father figure/CEO type; recruit well, but delegate to your assistants, especially now that we have a real deal staff in place. Add Greg Brown III and then hopefully KJ Adams and Shaka will be here for more than a decade. Will all of that happen? Probably not. But that's Shaka's best bet to survive here imo.

Yaklich is the real deal.  How long do we keep him?  Can we clone him?   Will we extend Shaka for 10 years the day Yaklich takes a HC gig?  Mack Brown is a great comparison....

The last 2 coaching hires have been awful. Strong was an absolutely awful coach. Herman looks like he also sucks.

Again...we all know that Texas will retain Herman after the season, even if Texas finishes 5-7. Would other schools do that in our situation? With Urban Meyer sitting out there?

I think that last point answers the question...it isn't about cheating, it's about prioritizing winning. If you prioritize winning, you'd fire Herman and sign Meyer. If you don't, you put up with Herman's obvious deficiencies and let him keep making the same dumb mistakes every week. To me that's kind of the bottom line.

In the long run, cheating is less expensive than swallowing huge coaching buyouts.  What the mold of the current winning cfb program looks like:

    1.  Most important.  A liquid non traceable bag man network.  Gotta keep momma happy.

    2.  Attorneys to cleanup messes.  Does Joe Jamail have any kids?

    3. Compentant coaching that does not overthink the process.  Keep it simple and let the talent do the talking.

    4.  If you get caught, keep cheating.  At most you are 2 years away from prominence.  The NCAA will never hand out the death penalty again, especially to a blue blood.

    5.  Never ever overpay for a coach.  The system does the winning.  Make sure the coach understands this simple fact.

if a banner gets hung and no one is there to see it, did it actually happen?

I was contemplating canceling LHN today until I realized that I really want to see the empty FEC opening night.  Will the LHN pan to the seats?  That's the real question.

I agree, but I can't really decide why it is that LHN = Underperforming Marquee Sports, but it sure seems like that is the equation. Same thing goes for the NFL in Houston. As long as the Oilers and Texans have played second fiddle to the Rodeo in the Astrodome and Reliant, neither has gone to the Super Bowl. Is correlation causation? I believe so but I can't articulate why.

More revenue from Disney via LHN has created lazy and incompetent leadership at UT Austin.

  7. Young players at difficult read positions is a non starter.  Hit the transfer market hard.  Bring in the best players.  Start by looking for excellent talent in the #2 slot in rotations on really good teams.  Pay them what they want.  Playing freshman and sophomores is a really bad idea unless they are all world talents.

There is a time for the discussion about losing our morals and cheat like SECx3 et al.   That time is when we have been to the CFP many times and keep losing.

The cheating talent deficit is irrelevant when talking about a loss to TCU and needing a fucking kicker to save us against Kansas.

    The coaching is unacceptable.

Firing coaches with huge buyouts is a problem.  Cheating is less expensive.  Ohio State is all in, they succeed with any bum off the street.

Just for the fun of it, hire Urbs as HC, Art Briles as OC, and whoever for defense because it won't matter.  Go huge on paying players.  Watch the titles roll in.

  9. We need to find a way to consolidate Texas talent pre scholarship limits.  There are 2 ways to do this.

    1.  Cheat like hell.  No matter what, always be cheating.  Alabama does it.  If they get caught, no matter.  They know that they will always cheat so good times are right around the corner.

    2.  Consolidate the number of P5 teams in Texas.  Texas talent is too diluted.  We need to cull some lesser schools and truly get our pick.  To get this done we would need to cheat like hell and drive other Texas schools into the gutter.  See #1.

The University of Texas is culturally satisfied with some combination of decent on-field/court results, profitability, and no off-field scandals. Shaka's only problem so far is managing "decent" results. He needs a nice solid 22 wins and first-round NCAA loss this year and then we (not those of us who care, but the royal we of The University of Texas) can hold our heads high.

Empty seats? Do you think they really care? As long as we can recruit and the program's profitable, empty seats are an afterthought.

The results haven't been decent.  They have been horrible.  Last time I checked, fans drive revenue.  Eventually, no one will be watching on TV and they will get dumped by the networks.  Smart is an embarrassment.  I abhor talking with conference rivals about basketball.  We are a laughing stock.

  11. Tom Herman in his 3rd year is 5-2 with close losses to top 5 teams and is getting a lot of heat for the losses and a close win against Kansas.  What the fuck is going on with the kid glove treatment of Shaka Smart?  He has been ass horrible and gets little to no pressure.  Matter of fact, that idiot Perrin extended his contract because he was "a great example for the kids."  Someone needs to take the politically correct glasses off and take a look at the empty seats.

By the way Tech’s fanbase, admin and staff talked this week, I think they may let last week beat them twice.

This is a real possibility.  Matt Wells first real test.

I’m thinking you ain’t been to that side of town in awhile. You would be shocked, to put it mildly.

No, I haven't.  I grew up in Aledo.  I live in Granbury.  I work too much and don't get out enough.  The Montgomery/University area are  a lot like Austin.  All the old stuff is gone and shiny new stuff has arrived.

Don’t mean to hate but Mama’s is essentially Double Dave’s. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Mama's is better than Double Dave's and the overrated shit rolls.  I lived on Nueces for 2 years.  Gumby's was next to Hardin House and DD's was in the Castilian.  Double Dave's and Gumby's were the same pizza (bad), especially when washed down with a 6 pack of natural light tall boys/keg.

Not a fan of Campisi's either but some are, that is why I mentioned it.  Mama's and Campisi's are prolly the best pizza you'll find in Ft. Worth without having to go to an overrated cockroach infested place like Sardine's.

Is the Mama's on Camp Bowie different ownership?  Even still there?

It's still there.  Same pizza so probably same ownership.  There is also a location on S. Bryant Irvin.  If you want barbecue, check out Billy's Oak Acres on Camp Bowie West.  It's cheap and tasty.

I will also mention that Campisi's is down the road from Mama's.
