  1. it's really deeply upsetting to look back at the threads and see posts calling this out exactly as it fucking happened. History was our guide, and we are well past the point of no return. I recommended it back in 2021, but Robert Evans' Behind the Insurrections is a wonderful and maddening series of past fascist takeovers and how they happened. It's the same thing over and over and over.
  2. Bad news for Venezuela and Greenland.... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/06/epstein-files-release-justice-department The Department of Justice has released less than 1% of the so-called Epstein files, a court filing has revealed, as Democrats step up criticism of the Trump administration’s “lawlessness” for keeping records under seal. The department conceded that only 12,285 documents, totalling 125,575 pages, relating to the disgraced financier and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein have been published to date, despite a federal law requiring the vast majority to be released by 19 December. Pam Bondi, the attorney general, wrote a five-page update to Paul Engelmayer, the federal New York judge overseeing the case, on Monday, asserting that efforts to protect the identities of Epstein’s victims were a priority, and had slowed the process.
  3. I'm not sure why, but my chrome install on W11 is just borked. Surly loads properly in Firefox, but has that weird double load of the main js file. I know it's a me problem, but surly is the only site I've seen this problem with. As a troubleshooting step, I even uninstalled and did a fresh chrome install and still had the issue

Funny enough, the Greenland obsession was a plant from Putin back in 2019 to get trump off of Ukraine It's wild how much circles back to Ukraine

  7. Also, lulz he's gonna destabilize that country because he got his feefees hurt Thank God the adults are in charge amirite
  8. That doesn't sound like something that shareholders looking for quarterly returns will be interested in. Unless there's a whole shitload of corporate socialism to sweeten the pot

  10. Lol sounding a little Hugo Chavez there yourself, redistributing wealth from the elites to the poor and downtrodden*. Thanks for the laugh *downtrodden major US oil producers
  11. Linguistically, it does make a difference to be polite. I know it sounds silly, but the way that tokenization and feature extraction work with a natural language sentence, it can shift the direction and magnitude of the vector that makes up the query. Insofar as the language and information it will access to reply to you will lie closely to that query vector. So if you ask like a jerk it's likely to respond a little defensively because that tends to be the pattern in the natural language that it was trained on. At least, that's the abstracted idea of what's happening inside an LLM. I think the weird televangelism level of faith in genAI is awful and embarrassing, but your buddies aren't totally wrong in terms of how to more effectively use an LLM.
  12. The first trial is set to begin for child abandonment and endangerment AP NewsTrial to begin for police officer charged in delayed resp...One of the first officers on the scene at the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, is about to stand trial. Now one of the first officers on the scene is about to stand trial on multiple charges of child abandonment and endangerment. Former Uvalde schools police officer Adrian Gonzales is accused of ignoring his training in a crisis with deadly consequences. His attorney insists he was focused on helping children escape from the building. The trial that starts Monday offers potentially one of the last chances to see police answer for the long delay. The families have pinned their hopes on the jury after their gun-control efforts were rejected by lawmakers, and their lawsuits remain unresolved. A few parents ran for political office to seek change, with mixed results. Only two of the 376 officers from local, state and federal agencies on the scene have been charged — a fact that haunts Velma Lisa Duran, whose sister, Irma Garcia, was one of the teachers gunned down. “What about the other 374?” Duran asked through tears. “They all waited and allowed children and teachers to die.”
  13. That's fucking wild that Whiskey Pete had ANOTHER fuckup and there was ANOTHER leak of an active attack plan.
