Yeah, I guess. Not sure what PK would have done with him in this scheme. He’s listed at 225 so he couldn’t have played jack or Buck. Would have ended up off the ball probably.

I don't know why you think Vaughns would be too small to play Buck while PK continues to march Ovie Oghoufo out on the field. You clearly didn't see Utah State/Vaughns last year if you don't realize he'd have been a marked improvement over a spare like Oghoufo.

Trying to think, since the portal became a thing, has there a been a guy who's transferred from Texas and just absolutely tore it up at his new school? Most successful transfers I can think of are Buechele and Cam Rising.

Byron Vaughns is really fucking good.

Caleb Johnson was decent at UCLA as was Jalen Green at Moo State.

Most transfers have very little impact at their new schools (see fucking spares like Thornton, Ben Davis, etc...) and despite the message board excitement rarely are they transferring because they are awesome but buried on deep ass teams (or poorly coached/scheme fit) - those guys (like Keilan) are the absolute gems of the portal. Most of the portal guys, ingress or egress, are just shuffling trash around to fill out the depth chart and hoping to find some starting reps out of someone else's crap pile. You could ask that about almost any P5 team and the answers would mostly be 2 or 3 good players that left tore it up at their new schools while these 14 continued to be fucking spares.

And yet in 2015, under Shanahan, the Falcons averaged 21.2 pts per game. Was Shanahan a terrible coach in 2015?

Don't be this fucking stupid - intentional ignorance is fucking tiresome and I have less than zero patience for that silly bullshit. Sarkisian took over a team that led the league in scoring, ATL scored 540 points under Shanahan and the very next season under Sarkisian they scored 353. Read that a couple of times. Shanahan has gone on to prove that he is an excellent coach both as OC and HC, while Sarkisian continues to strive to achieve mediocrity.

I was merely going off of memory from looking at whatever I was looking at in January of 2021, so the reality is I could have taken the thought in my head at the time of something like "well, that didn't blow anyone's skirt up given their talent" and 15 months later being "he wasn't Kyle Shanahan, who might actually be an offensive genius, and then he got fucking worse from there."

no - you were right he was fucking terrible.

The offense's scoring output, under Sarkisian's guidance, dropped from 33.8 points per game (leading the NFL in 2016 (Shanahan as OC) to 22.1 points per game in 2017 (Sarkisian). In 2018, the offense's scoring improved to 25.9 points per game.

Does anyone know what the fuck they're hinting at here? I hate when they do this "wink-wink" shit. The "program fit" thing makes sense, but who is going to be a better option than a 5-star sophomore? Shit, On3 had him as the number 11 overall recruit in the class.

I hate that shit too but it's their bread-and-butter. There will be a new group of "established" players entering the portal post-spring and I'm guessing at least one of them is someone that they love, a guy that has already been productive in college. There are a couple of Horns that may be heading to the portal as well - really it's just fucking chaos.

Always a huge risk in taking a kid like that, multiple schools is a big red flag. Our receiver room is a big red flag though....so may be worth the risk.

I think with Worthy, Neyor, and Dixon is pretty solid. You also have Whittington (for 2 games at the start and 1 toward the end), Washington, the Ghost of Omeire, and possibly Cain getting his head on straight. It's not bad and I think the biggest winner in the off-season coaching changes is going to be Dixon (re: Marion) (assuming they can keep him here post spring). I fully expect Kelvontay to do some damage under Marion.

  7. DeSoto you say?

    via HammLite ::

This is something we've been waiting to go public as Andrew sat on it out of respect for sources. But Wisner is now at DeSoto and enrolled. He was at A&M all weekend and remember that Jimbo Fisher specifically went by Waco Connally this past January to see him. Multiple people have told me they'd be shocked if he ended up somewhere other than Oklahoma, but A&M is not giving up. It also couldn't hurt that he's now playing with Johntay Cook.

There are about 20 national top 100 guys on that list that Hornius provided, including the number 1 player in the nation. Herman never came close to that.

I'm too lazy to go back over previous visit weekends but FFS off the top of my head - Texas got commits from 12 or 13 of the top 125 in 2018. Not visits, commits. That doesn't mean this wasn't an excellent group or that people shouldn't be excited about it but signing them (and then developing that talent) is the goal. Let's not act like any HC getting top tier talent to visit Texas is notable or that it's unique to Sarkisian because it's not and more importantly the expectation should absolutely be Texas hosting top talent. It is clear that this staff's recruiting impact is improved dramatically with the addition of Marion and Choice and they are showing immediate results.

Who is the one recruit who can command that kind of scratch in 2023? Also, who is a school that has an NIL “Collective”?

    I’ll hang up and listen.

Arch is the most obvious but he isn’t the only one - Malachi Nelson checks all the boxes, and he’s already committed and as Caleb Williams has already proven the USC NIL groups are more than willing to make it rain.
