  1. oh shit i just realized this was the Fire RT thread lol. when i replied to that post i assumed this was the tourney thread. yeah, what hookem said. mcdermott ain’t going anywhere, and we don’t want him anyway. not a good fit and he’s in his 60’s.
  2. he has a fairly well earned reputation as a coach who underachieves in the tourney. last year’s team went to the elite 8, so i see this matchup with tennessee as a defining game for both head coaches. one of them will at least somewhat get that monkey off his back, while the other will be in for a world of pain with yet another season that ended earlier than it felt like it shoot.
  3. what are you talking about? “the master beat the apprentice”. that’s it. are you seeing some parenthetical phrase exalting the coaching job that barnes did tonight or something? you’re bending over backwards to warp a phrase that requires no extra interpretation.
  4. the team we just lost to was a bunch of third and fourth year teammates and one great transfer. the idea that every team will just be turning over their entire roster every two years is false. teams that do that won’t win very much or retain their head coaches very long. you still need to bring in “your guys” who are going to stick around a few years and learn/implement your culture and philosophies. you use the portal to add the final piece or two, not to have a revolving door of players every year.
  5. it’s defintely possible that we miss the tourney next year, it even if we do RT will still be around for year three. if he has a bad season then, that’s when his seat will actually get hot.
  6. the entire point of my post is that rick barnes’s players are more disciplined and well drilled than RT’s. i said as much in the post. the tennessee shooters, imperfect as they may be, took the shots they were supposed to take, the shots that their staff wants them to take. RT’s players do what shaka’s players did, and fire up idiotic, low percentage shots with zero coaching correction. that’s just a fact. you can be up in here acting cute all you want, but time has proven beyond a doubt that a rick barnes team is well drilled and well disciplined, and that an RT coached team isn’t. that was once again on display tonight, including/especially in the respective shot selection of each team, as well as the litany of ridiculous turnovers.
  7. “the master vs the apprentice”. there’s no editorializing there, that’s what this coaching matchup was.
  8. so tennessee has a trash coach, had an important player in foul trouble all night, shot 33% from the field and 3-25 from deep, and rodney terry’s team…lost by four? that’s your argument to my post which criticized RT’s coaching job tonight?
  9. their top four three-point shooters- dalton knecht (1-8), zakai zeigler (1-8), santi vescovi (0-3), and jordan gainey (0-4)- went a combined 2-23. the rest of their team , aka their bad shooters, went 1-2 over 40 minutes. why do you make me do this to you so often?
  10. weaver’s minutes + disu and max’s shot selection all fall on RT. you cannot keep your catalyst on the bench for the most important minutes of the season, and you cannot give your only two offensive weapons carte blanche to take stupid shots all game long. the dylan disu that dominated the postseason last year was destroying teams from 15 feet and in, not relentlessly jacking up threes no matter how many he missed. thus is the mercurial nature of this team. they are neither disciplined enough nor well drilled enough to be consistently good. coming out of the locker room for the 2H RT told the lady reporter that we needed to get our shots on our terms- the shots that we wanted within our offense. at no point in the second half did he actually enforce that policy, including/especially when abmas decided that fading away in the deep corner was a great idea for the most important shot of the season. tennessee missed a ton of bunnies and open looks, but their players were so much more disciplined and avoided taking the plethora of stupid shots that we did. we left their poor shooters unmanned on the perimeter and those guys never once considered shooting, instead opting for quick, decisive passes to keep the offense flowing. that’s coaching. the master beat the apprentice tonight, and the shot selection may be the biggest reason why.
  11. oregon is in the S16 right now if gent simply don’t throw the ball in to that one specific guy. crazy.
  12. i think that DK is going to get his tonight regardless, and that what we do to stop guys like zakai zeigler and jonas aidoo that will determine the outcome. tennessee has played some close games this year when DK was going off but nobody else was bringing it. it’s when tennessee’s ancillary players have really good games that tennessee is a legit title contender.
  13. that’s a screenshot of consecutive posts made during the game smart guy.
  14. we were no.3 in kenpom with no.1 defense in the country when beard got fired. the same beard who won 30 games in one year at UALR, then went to the elite 8 and national title game in years 2 and 3 at tech, and then won Texas’s first tourney game since 2014 in his first year at Texas. also the eyeball test on that team passed with flying colors, it was the most suffocating defense in Texas history. anyone with a clue could see how good that team was. i would refer to your post as disingenuous but it’s really more just stupid and uninformed.
  15. beard has the sixth best tourney win% of all time and his team was statistically and empirically better under him than it was under RT. i mean for all we know RT is about to lead us to the championship, but that’s not what history says is going to happen.
  16. what does any of this have to do with the first two years of each HC’s tenure?
