That's exactly his point about the "punching down" aspect. He's not punching down. He is taking it on the chin. The collective progressive determination that disagreement (or anything less than lockstep adherence) with the transgender platform is punching down at him, because he is just some dude saying what he thinks. That's his point.

Apparently (and predictably if you see my earlier post in response to nivek's questions) this special was nothing more than a Rorschach test where people see whatever it is they are predetermined to see. Like the time the psychiatrist who evaluated me gave me a Rorschach test and I asked him why he kept showing me pictures of my mother's vagina.

Yea, I agree with a lot of what you wrote here as well. I'm just saying that it's pretty obvious that DC is taking a position through comedy, to advance the social discussion and conversation, as Voltaire and Jonathan Swift and Oscar Wilde and all those other famous satirists have done from time immemorial, and that he's not and shouldn't be given the cover of "it's just comedy lighten up". Make your case and own the outcomes and it sounds like he is which is awesome and healthy and good for us all.

  2. The "Dave Chappelle is just an edgy comedian doing edgy comedian things" defense is wrong, IMO.

DC is the closest thing we have to a mainstream public intellectual, at this point.

He is extremely intentional and thoughtful and communicative-- he has an obvious gift that has transcended comedy in the later years. Watch any of this publicly accessible stuff from 8:46 to the Netflix Redemption song two parts. It's a master class in not only story telling but also communicating directly with the audience and cutting out the middle man. There is a whole huge write-up I'll find and share about how he handled the Netflix situation which was awesome.

That being said, I find it hard to believe that DC doesn't harbor at least a bit of personal animus towards the Trans community. Like others have said, he should just own it with a "I said what I said", like JK Rowling before him, because there is, or at least should be, room for interpretation and beliefs about basic things like gender and other social constructs. And he should take on the chin whatever comes his way for saying what he says.

But like others have mentioned, DC is smart enough to spout off after gaining credibility in his ability to think and form opinions, as well as having a huge platform and popularity that insulates him from being "cancelled". If he were just a guy having done Def Jam VHS specials and a bit (albeit funny) part on the Nutty Professor, he would be sunk.

I don't understand the haters.  (I'm vaxxed btw) but the dude stood by his convictions and lost his job.  Ok.  Why the fuck him this and that.  It doesn't make sense to me.

Yea, I'm thinking he probably didn't really want this job anyways and maybe wanted to do something else. At least that makes sense to me why you would leave and not just get vaxxed. Either that or he is mentally ill and really truly thinks that remaining unvaxxed is worth more than $20-25mm or whatever the rest of his lifetime earnings would reasonably be.

Vanderjagt comes to mind. Was on pace to be one of the best kickers ever and he completely shanked a game tying FG in the playoffs in 2005 against Pitt and he was never the same after that. I think he played with us that very next season, too. And he sucked. Nick Folk comes to mind here in Dallas. Was so money. That 50plus FG he made in Buffalo in 2007 on MNF was so fucking money. He made that kick dead center twice because Buffalo iced him during the kick. But then something flipped and he fell way the hell off.

Dan Bailey was the same way. Might have been injury but he became a liability. I think Zuerlein is better at the long kicks than Bailey was and then Bailey was much better at the shorter ones. Zuerlein makes me nervous but he has made some huge kicks this year. Took the lead against TB. Game winner against LAC. Game tying against NE. All of these were pretty long. Off the top of my head, it seemed Bailey missed so many of these long kicks. Especially with the game on the line.

Nick Folk was out there yesterday converting XP's against us..what..12 years was it, after playing for us? I remember him being pretty solid for a very long time for the NYJ too, so it's not like he lost it here or he was broken. If we wouldn't have gotten Dan Bailey shortly after but instead had to cycle through a bunch of idiot kickers (s/o to Arch's uncle) then I think you would have heard a lot of second guessing on ole Nicky Folk.

    "This Is The End" (2013)

I think I liked this decently when I was too young or impressionable to know any better... but wow if this isn't one of the worst, most self-aggrandizing pieces of shit ever produced.

Everyone involved in this should be embarrassed, frankly. It's a whore-piece meant to elevate everyone in its standing within a vacuous, agent-fee driven douchefuckscape that was/is Hollywood.

There are of course singular actors in this one that I like and may or may not stand by in the future - but overall this film needs to be ignored and chastised for what it is, that being one of the biggest pieces of flaming dogshit ever conceived by these assholes.

Now this is a movie review.

Real estate industry giant Zillow has put a pause on its ibuying because the company can’t seem to stay apace of high demand, Bloomberg reported late Sunday night.

The company acquired more than 3,800 homes during the second quarter, following an expansion of the Zillow Offers program in 2018, but today, can’t work quickly enough to satisfy an insatiable demand from consumers.

The pause will last at least through the end of 2021 while Zillow works through its backlog of properties that already have contracts signed and require any renovations. During this time period, Zillow will keep marketing and selling homes through Zillow Offers.

“We’re operating within a labor- and supply-constrained economy inside a competitive real estate market, especially in the construction, renovation and closing spaces,” Zillow Chief Operating Officer Jeremy Wacksman said in a statement. “We have not been exempt from these market and capacity issues and we now have an operational backlog for renovations and closings. Pausing new contracts will enable us to focus on sellers already under contract with us and our current home inventory.”

Prospective sellers who might have worked with Zillow Offers will instead be connected with a local Zillow Premier Agent partner.

Following the news, Zillow shares were down more than 6 percent in premarket trading on Monday. As of last Friday’s close, stock had declined 31 percent in the year to date.

Given the company’s market power and huge amounts of data at hand, it has the ability to essentially plan out its inventory and acquisitions in advance, and speed up or slow down business as needed, Inman Contributor Mike DelPrete told the Wall Street Journal. Therefore, the announcement, which covers all Zillow markets, is a bit surprising.

No other major iBuyers have made any similar announcement to halt purchasing homes this year so far. In fact, iBuyer Opendoor reached out to Inman directly to confirm they are still continuing to acquire homes.

“We know how important certainty and convenience are to homeowners seeking to move and we’ve worked hard over the past seven years to ensure we can continue to deliver our experience at scale,” a spokesperson for Opendoor said in a statement emailed to Inman. “Opendoor is open for business and continues to scale and grow.”

Wow I think we posted almost the same thing at nearly the same time.

So what's Redfin's business model?  They have my house valued at WAY below Zillow, and even well below TCAD.  In my experience, TCAD is always a floor on actual value.

I'm assuming Redfin just lowballs "value" to owners in the hopes that a few percent of them bite?  I mean, the numbers they show me for neighbors, all of whom have far older houses on smaller lots is typically quite a bit higher.  It just screams "con job" to me.

Zillow Group Inc. is taking a break from buying U.S. homes after the online real estate giant’s pivot into tech-powered house-flipping hit a snag.

Zillow, which acquired more than 3,800 homes in the second quarter, will stop pursuing new purchases for the remainder of the year as it works through a backlog of properties already in its pipeline. …

In 2018, the company launched Zillow Offers, joining a small group of tech-enabled home-flippers known as iBuyers. In the new business, Zillow invites homeowners to request an offer on their house and uses algorithms to generate a price. If an owner accepts, Zillow buys the property, makes light repairs and puts it back on the market.

With the pandemic setting off a housing frenzy marked by cash bids and fast closings, Zillow’s pitch of speed and convenience has started to resonate with consumers who want to sell their homes quickly as they try to buy a new property.

The iBuying process is powered by algorithms and large pools of capital, but it’s also reliant on humans. Before Zillow signs a contract to buy a house, it sends an inspector to make sure the property doesn’t need costly repairs. After it buys a home, contractors replace carpets and repaint interiors.

Finding workers for those tasks has been challenging during a pandemic that has stretched labor across industries.

“I’ll pay you $350,000 for your house as long as a human can go out there, look around, and make sure that price isn’t wildly off” is an interesting model but it’s not quite the same as “push this button to sell your house for $350,000.” And “I’ll pay $350,000 for a house and then send out a crew to replace the carpets” is not quite the same as “I’ll pay $350,000 for a house and flip it 20 minutes later for $355,000, collecting a small spread for providing liquidity.” Computerization has come into the housing market, but it hasn’t taken it over yet.

Yep that sounds like it. I'm truly sincerely sorry for dragging your name into this garbage situation, I'm sure you have better things to do and you aren't a butt-hurt weirdo-- apologies elfenix. I'll eat a Cheese Enchilada special in your honor.

Your problem seems to me to be that you are unable to break through the cognitive dissonance of having deeply held beliefs that are entirely inconsistent with your political views. We go around the merry go round, your breaker flips, and we’re back to square one.

So maybe the cognitive dissonance is muscle is too developed; too strong. I don't know. I have a lot of very deep existential insecurities, so maybe that subconsciously drives me.

Anyways, I've got nothing better to do so why don't you humor me in conversation? Like visiting an old grandpa.

How are you? How is Raleigh? How is Raleigh different and living there different from what you thought it was going to be like before you got there, both good and bad?

Yeah, never bought the Chrispy sock thing.

I'm vaguely sympathetic to Donkey as a recovering GOP voter.  I had become increasingly uncomfortable with a whole lot of things the GOP had been doing for years, particularly on the social end of things.  The Obamacare repeal votes, with no replacement, and then the open bigotry and wholesale fellation of Trump absolutely tore it for me. And, weirdly I guess, I not only could not support GOP candidates or the party, but I became ultra-sympathetic and receptive to progressive causes and propositions (the reality is that I always had been, but troubled by the "at what cost" aspect of it all, and still am).  Part of that is the realization that no one is going to be fiscally responsible, so we might as well go on a drunken spending spree on the people for once.

Donkey's not there yet, but I think he's receptive, if a bit stubborn.

I appreciate the sentiment here and, unless you are prescient and wise beyond measure, I'm not sure I agree with your police work here, Lou.

My problems, as it were, are not skin deep; my beliefs are in the marrow and, God willing, will be interred in my bones.

Anybody have any ideas or any party games? Any firebrand thread ideas to wile away the time, you want to start?

    Two truths and a lie?

Any interesting wagers? I'm willing to bet a political vote for a progressive candidate of your choice if you can win?

The eye roll comment is spot on but Donkey is a solid poster outside of the CR. Or maybe inside the CR too - wouldn't know.

Sounds like you FAAFO by not throwing the towel in over there.

I really enjoy your posts and style I forgot to say; you do a good job of owning a unique point of view which skews a bit off the beaten path, at least slightly, and respectfully sharing without offending folks or ruffling feathers.

Chrispy was more mean spirited than DonkeyCigars. I think I negged you a few times before I kinda understood your thing, and of course I disagree with you about a whole lot and was often exasperated at how you seem to... somehow intelligently miss the entire point? I dunno, I'm not trying to come at your opinions or attack them here or whatever, just to describe that I kinda get why people think you're a troll but I do not think that you are. I can't think of another instance where someone got neg bombed to death and didn't completely ask for it, but I don't think it was warranted in this case. So have a pos rep.

If you’re gonna post a “woah is me look at me” post it should at least make sense don’t you think?

Sorry it was a joke/reference to a Will Ferrell song where he is saying "I don't know" a bunch of times in Spanish. Basically I'm answering you saying "I don't know because I'm not smart with the policies/admin rules".
