  1. I played Scrabble with my wife and kids yesterday. We've never played as a family because my son is in 3rd grade and we thought he'd be at a disadvantage. Little shit came in with ZAP (10+1+3), and with a triple word multiplier, got 42 points.

I helped him a bit later on, and may or may not have traded a few tiles with him. But he came in at a solid 172 points, beating out mom and older sister.

She rules my world.  And she’s still affectionate but seems to be moving out of daddy’s little girl stage and I can feel it as it’s happening.  Her friends are close enough to be my nieces.

My daughter just turned 12, so I’m a few years ahead of you in terms of daughter wanting to spend more time with her friends than me.

But even though I got really mad at her in the morning because she wasn’t getting ready, during the evening rally (where all the “tribes” get together), she leaned her head on my shoulder.

I loved it… and hated myself for being so hard on her in the morning.

  3. Spent the day at a camp with a bunch of dads I've met through a daddy-daughter group. Ate some GREAT food, drank some good beer and whisky, played cornhole, and sat by a fire chatting with friends I've made over the years.

It's a bittersweet moment because my daughter and her friends are in their teens and slowly losing interest, and this may be one of the few times remaining that I get to hang out with these dads, but I'll power on with the dad-son group with some of the same dads.

They have that or a Chili’s, and I travel there (Miami) every third week or so.

My condolences. Miami can get flattened by a class 10 hurricane and I would cheer for Mother Nature.

MTG is a bully, and you deal with bullies now just like you would when you were in fifth grade - you spend a few weeks with a training dummy, practicing on the genitals with a good swift kick and their jaw with a solid flashlight or crowbar. At some point you get them alone/off guard, you kick their nads into their chest and slam the flashlight or crowbar across their jaw, and while they are lying there, you quietly inform them that if they bully you any more, you've paid some homeless men $50 to kill their mom and do sex things to their dad.  You may get suspended from school for a while, may have to talk to a counselor, but just keep mentioning that you were bullied and the school and district weren't doing anything and your parents were about to sue the principal and teachers, and they'll eventually let you back in.  Or you tell them that your dad knows where there are plenty of deep coal pits full of water in northeastern Oklahoma where a body could be dumped and never found and it would be a real shame if something happened to their parents.  Make sure and have your dad near by, glaring at them when you say it.

Okay, that might not work with MTG because of the steroids and Neanderthals feeling pain different than we humans, but MTG would fold the moment she got hit, and start squealing for a microphone to claim that liberals were oppressing her and George Soros was behind it.

  6. After almost 9 years in this house, my wife still can’t figure out which switch is for which light. When she gets to a bank of 2 or 3 switches, she’ll sometimes turn all of them on-off-on until she gets the light she wants and turns off the others.

    Almost 9 years…

My pre k 5 year old started counting in binary (powers of 2) out of nowhere last night. Got to 128 before I stopped him and asked where he learned it. Said he didn't learn it and just likes doubling the numbers. I'm a software engineer and grandpa was a petroleum engineer, so it makes sense, but we couldn't do that at his age. He's had no formal math training. The kid walks around the house singing songs he makes up about numbers nonstop. It gets pretty old, but the kid LOVES numbers so I gotta deal with it.

    Impressive!

But you know who else was good at numbers?

The universe has a way of getting even and these whales are gonna settle some scores.

I’m no whale expert but I’m pretty confident in this.  Unless someone has a way to train them to stop, they’ll keep doing this until they’re killed.  The question is - when do sailboat guys become more important than whales have a right to live guys?

Orcas attacking sailboats may become a socialized behavior, so let me say in advance, I for one, welcome our Orca overloads.

Or we can train humpback whales (who already hate orcas) to fight more aggressively.

One of my favorite things to say: Your lack of prior planning does not constitue an emergency for me.

I phrase it a little differently:  Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Or as they said at my first job. Piss poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

    Yes, I work in construction.

When I lived in Austin, my neighbors would run out and put anything and everything on their car whenever there was hail in the forecast.

Reminds me... they had a trampoline in the back yard, and a daughter who I told myself was over 18.

Also "limited edition" - yeah, so is everything.

If your company name has the word “Unique”, you are hardly unique.

  12. My 9 YO came back with a teacher note yesterday saying he “made an inappropriate gesture with sausage at the lunch table”.

I drilled down to the facts in a non judgmental way. He felt bad and started crying.

While I was concerned that he was learning stuff like this in elementary school, deep down I wanted to say “dude, that’s not what guys do”.

Apparently the wife got mauled, the second person who got out was her mother who got killed trying to save her. LOL?

"Don't bitch at me! The last time you did it you lost your mom!"
