Due to the fact that my wife moved every 2 years growing up, she’s a purger.

My parents are a mm away from being hoarders. It’s not a compulsion as much as just being lazy.

But what’s great is when she goes into purge mode and what it does to my daughters, See, they got the heterozygous version of the dominant hoarder genes (I think that works?).

I know it’s going down when my oldest screams from upstairs in hysterics :

”Why are you always trying to throw away our memories!!!!!!”

I laugh from my seat on the couch. But my joy is short lived.

When purge-a-tron 5000 return downstairs without her full lb of flesh I get blamed for ruining our children and I must then wander the sex desert like Moses for much longer than my usual camel-like existence,

We moved continents every 3-4 years so we learned not to buy stupid shit because we’d just have to throw it away.

My wife comes from a family of hoarders. She's actually the best or the lot, but I guess we’re still at different planes of hoarding existence.

Yeah we got into an argument yesterday when she started dumpster diving, but it’s a fight worth having. We’ve been in this house for 8 years, and it’s the longest I ever lived in one place and I’ll be damned if we’re going to save some hair bands that my daughter got as a Christmas present 7 years ago.

  2. Apparently some christian nationalist ARE actually mad about Trump co-opting the bible.

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/28/us/donald-trump-bible-christianity-cec/index.html

    Quote

“It is a bankrupt Christianity that sees a demagogue co-opting our faith and even our holy scriptures for the sake of his own pursuit of power and praise him for it rather than insist that we refuse to allow our sacred faith and scriptures to become a mouthpiece for an empire,” said Rev. Benjamin Cremer on X.

    ...

Historian and author Jemar Tisby says the whole project echoes the values of Christian nationalism — the idea that America was founded as a Christian nation and the government should work to sanction Christianity on a national scale. The tenets of Christian nationalism are historically tied to prejudice, nativism and white supremacy.

    ...

When Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons, communications director for the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, saw Trump’s Bible endorsement, he said he saw a politician using fears rooted in racism and prejudice to promote a specific Christian ideology.

When I hear ‘Make America Pray Again,’ I hear Christian nationalist promises that we are going to somehow ‘restore’ Christianity in this country. And if authoritarianism does come to the United States, it’s all but guaranteed it will be done in the name of Christianity, which is a very scary thought.

    ...

“I think the essence of liberal progressive faith is compassion, so it is mind boggling (to such people) how someone could say they were a Christian and follow a guy who is very much not compassionate.”

Fake outrage. They're gonna vote for him anyway.

It’s not clear where proceeds from the Bible’s sales will go

In addition to the multitude of theological questions it raises, Trump’s endorsement of the “God Bless the USA” Bible coincides with several legal battles that could put the presumptive Republican nominee for president on the line for hundreds of millions of dollars.

The FAQ section of the “God Bless America” Bible website clarifies that no proceeds from the sales of the Bible will go towards Trump’s presidential campaign. However, there is no mention of whether any proceeds could be put toward his personal legal troubles.

Rubes. Idiots. Morons. Fools and their money are easily parted.

Trump and his ilk can all go bankrupt and the world will be better and kinder.

I was going through old clothes just this morning, and informed the wife that she was not allowed to go through them and ask if I was really giving this away.

Yeah, and how did that work out for you?

Had no idea Cali did things like that.

That west coast is all kinds of wack-a-doo

Yeah it totally sucks that I don't know what my property tax is gonna be next year.

My property tax is 1.1% of the purchase price, which includes some local water, school and other minor taxes. I think by law, it can only go up 2%. So next year it might go up to 1.12%.

What sucks is older folks are reluctant to sell and then buy a new home because their property tax is going to be higher, so there is a shortage of cheaper homes in CA.

I don't know how people can afford homes nowadays. I purchased my home 8 years ago, and it has gone up 100%. My next door neighbor listed his house at $1.8M, and he's already gotten a few full asking price offers. There were a lot of people who came to the open house yesterday - all of them driving Land Rovers, Teslas or Mercedes. For context, if you put 20% down, with and interest rate of 6.5%, your monthly mortgage payment is $9,100/month.

Gulp. Starting to look through this thread and getting the bug. I'm a big fan of this Stowa watch... but it's going to end up being about $1,400. Anyone know of anything similar that's an easier to handle price?

    Laco

There is a ~ $1,000 between the Laco Flieger Basic and the range. You can get the basic from $400 up to $1,200 for the “original”. They look the same and it’s all in the movement. I got the basic which has a Miyota movement which is pretty terrible - the watch keeps shaking after you shake to wind. Not the end of the world, but not something that happens with my other autos.

Be careful the watch wears BIG. I have a 7” wrist and the 42mm looks massive. I would go with the 39mm if I bought another Flieger.

Update: LOVE this watch. It’s become my regular wear. I put it on a black Barton rubber strap. LUM is great. Movement too. The second hand has an orangish red tint that really pops. Love it.

Does it bother you that the bezel isn’t lined up with the 12 marker?

I have a Seiko SBDC051 watch where the 12 marker isn’t EXACTLY top dead center - off by just a hair. The bezel just also a hair and it bugs the shit out of me.

Not as much as the 6R15 movement taking a shit on me. It’s losing a minute everyday, and lasts about 24 hours even if it’s fully wound. It’s supposed to last closer to 50 hours. I took it to get it serviced and it cost me $350!

But it’s still a beautiful watch and my daily wearer so I a $350 service is still worth it for me.

DJT stock hits turbulence: More volatility ahead for Trump's high-flying Truth Social

Donald Trump’s namesake social media company burst out of the gate on its first day of trading Tuesday, opening at $70.90 and soaring as high as $79.38 as Trump fans and opportunistic traders bought up shares. But the price faded late in the session and has bounced along at lower levels ever since, ending Thursday down $4.26 at $61.96 on the Nasdaq. The stock exchange was closed Friday in observance of Good Friday.

“The stock will continue to be very volatile, with sharp moves up and down. But the long-term trend will be down,” he said. “The company has about $2 in cash per share, but it will probably burn through that money and the most likely outcome is eventual bankruptcy.”

If you’re not moving anytime soon and this sells, then they did you a favor.

use it as a comp when protesting your appraisal and save some $ in your property taxes.

That's true if you live in TX.

I live in CA where the property tax is based on your purchase price, and property values aren't assessed every year.

So this doesn't help me at all.

  9. My next door neighbors are moving and listed their house about $100K below what Zillow, Redfin and realtor.com said the house is worth.

Not that I’m plannning to move any time soon. But it hurts any potential sellers in the neighborhood.

  10. Shocked I tell ya. Absolutely shocked.

Many of those investing in Trump Media are small-time investors either trying to support Trump or aiming to cash in on the mania, instead of big institutional and professional investors. Those shareholders helped the stock of Digital World more than double this year in anticipation of the merger going through.

  11. I dropped a Performance Improvement Plan on one of my direct reports today.

It should not have come as a surprise to him because we've had quite a few conversations (some heated) about his non-performance. He got pissed and lashed out at me saying I was a terrible manager because I a) didn't understand what he does, and b) never told him before he needed to improve.

He does have a point on a) since he does some technical shit, but on b) we've had conversations that go back to last year about shit he needs to do, meeting deadlines, managing outside subcontractors, etc.

In my career, I've only PIPed 3 other people and they all quit shortly after. At this point, I don't really care if this guy quits. I was thinking about working with him to get through the next 30 days, but his personal attacks were out of line. Sometimes being a people manager sucks ass.

  13. Came back from Japan and the first thing I did was drop a deuce. I felt like a caveman wiping my ass with toilet paper.

I already ordered the Toto Washlet C5 since I already have a Toto toilet. I'll get the Washlet+ version when I renovate the upstairs bathrooms later this year.

How many institutional investors do you think (or know) this and will buy these shares? Hopefully they are competent and stay away, but from what I’ve read, it seems like institutional investors are ready to jump in.

Regardless of whether they are institutional or retail investors, in the end as long as it’s the MAGAt that get hurt, I don’t give a shit.
