  1. Based on what I keep hearing, I think people are scared to be too positive about Arch because all the information out there is positive for us. If football wasn’t a factor, I think he would come to Texas in a heartbeat.

I’m not sure how anyone today could pick another school over us. Stuff still has to play out, but he loves Texas and Austin. Has lots of friends here too.

Are they really so far ahead of us on infrastructure that they can take one of our top leans, who according to you we were being very competitive with, and in a matter of weeks go from no interest to closing him down? All while bagging up other 5 star auctions too?

They are certainly ahead. By how much Im not sure. My hope is the staff has gone radio silent on twerps like me because they have the cooperation theyre looking for elsewhere.

So lata bitch to dog shit players and oh hiiiii girl to better portal players?

I think Sark is on the verge of losing the locker room and this season could end in disastrous fashion, including losing some good players to the portal.

But I think our portal prospects are better than we realize. I think we are about to be on an emotional rollercoaster.

  4. Was just told the staff is doing their best to wade these new portal waters. Honestly it sounds very difficult and there isn’t any real precedent for some of this stuff since the rules have changed.

I don’t have any names but that’s bc there aren’t names being given. It has to remain quiet for obvious reasons. As I mentioned above, it isn’t all the stimulating exercise of seeing how we can improve our team through the portal. It’s also the energy draining exercise of trying to prevent some of our own guys from saying sayonara. That’s the new normal. I think by reading between the lines the portal has priority over the recruiting trail.

I think that underscores how important NIL deals are in relation to traditional recruiting activities. Friendly reminder that we are in uncharted territory in terms of the legal impact the average fan like us can make on the future success of the team. It’s pretty fucking cool honestly.

  5. I’m nowhere near conceding Stewart to A&M. If he commits there, then they deserve to sign him. It also means they missed elsewhere and are seeing to it that he isn’t on our sideline to play against them. From what I’ve seen, they have a specific plan as to how their resources are allocated recruiting wise. Jimbo might be an embarrassment of a guy in the real world, but he understands what to do on the recruiting trail. I’m not sold Sark is that guy yet.

Also, I remember when Bryce Anderson and Kelvin Banks “wanted to come here”, and we “weren’t pushing for them” but it was totally just a matter of time.   It seems Nahlin and/or our actual coaches have issues with counting their chickens way before they’re hatched.

Kelvin Banks is definitely an example of the type of player I’m talking about. The only reason I can think of that we aren’t pushing harder is bc we have someone else in mind who has already been in a college weightlifting program and has seen snaps.

But I think you’d agree with me that we should be pushing really damn hard for him no matter what. It’s confusing and the answers aren’t readily available out there. Which is worrying people, and worry can turn into frustration and anger quickly. Especially with what we are seeing on the field.

We have 22 commitments, including several guys who would have obviously been told to hold off if we were keeping our powder dry for the portal.  We have a kicker, a long snapper, and multiple redundant DL recruits, but we’re not pushing for high end prospects because we want portal flexibility?

I think whoever told you that is wishcasting really hard.

There are recruits we won’t be able to sign that want to come to Texas as of today. Five star players. The portal is the only reason I can think of that we aren’t pushing for these commits. It isn’t a matter of us wanting them, it’s a matter of how competitive we can be compared to the other schools recruiting them. We will end up with a couple of them, but we could sign a top 5 class no question if we went hard on the recruiting trail. It’s my feeling the staff chooses to remain competitive in the portal instead of grabbing these recruits, but I don’t know that.

And my point above was not that people are wishcasting about our position. It’s that people are wondering if we could get burned in the portal and that we will lose our position with the high end recruits.

  8. Not meant to cause a stir, but there should be a reminder that the portal works both ways. After a tough season, losses to the portal are inevitable, and it’s not always players we want to see leave.

I think Sark should be much more aggressive than the numbers Nahlin has in that article.

There has been a lot of speculation that our lack of high end recruits so far is because we are keeping our powder dry for the portal.

I still think that’s the case, but there’s very little information available about the portal stuff for obvious reasons. I certainly can’t say I have confidence in our plans there, because I simply don’t have a good barometer for what we can expect. All the positive info I heard was back when we were 4-1. Hopefully it means the staff is just keeping things air tight, but people friendly to the program are starting to wonder, and the silence from the staff isn’t really creating goodwill in the middle of a really frustrating run of football.

I find it odd that the best coach we’ve hired since Garrido has a fucking plan. I also find it odd that he doesn’t accept excuses as to why he can’t have something. If you want to win, this is what it takes. Truly amazing.

All I can do is laugh to myself about the reality of this statement. Beard is taking no prisoners. Guy has the juice.

I’ll admit I thought Herman was that guy. His pitch was very very good regarding all facets of running a big program. I felt VERY confident about that hire. Was actually an important lesson for me.

  10. I agree with everything @closetojumping said above.

The reality is our people simply don’t understand how college football works. And worse, when you tell them they don’t want to believe it. It’s like telling a kid Santa clause isn’t real, but if he still behaves he will get toys anyways.

It’s one thing for our dipshit admins and donors to not get it, but there have been a couple of troubling instances to where I wonder if our staff knows what they’re doing or not as well.

I have some thoughts on the matter, which can basically be summed up with the idea that our BMDs are the wrong people to be talking to. They simply have too much money to play these petty games. We need them for the big ticket items. Problem is, it’s much harder to identify “regular rich people” who would are zealots like myself and others on this board.

I see a large percentage of the "free money" transitioning out of the bag game toward NIL simply for the sake of legitimacy. But who's gonna turn down a giant bag of cash that you don't have to do a fucking thing to get? No tweeting. No contracts. No taxes. That shit'll be around forever.

Several programs have decades of bag game infrastructure set up that work quite well. They arent looking to transition away, the market will have to force them. Texas could definitely use its intellectual horsepower to force change, but as @SydneyCarton pointed out, no one currently gives a fuck or even believes its a thing we should be doing.

Some folks are going to sit here and whine about the bag game as some catch all. When folks bitch about alumni support, it's not just the bag game. It's the fact, that in general, the alumni don't fucking get ANYTHING. They're not lining up to build the death star for legal shit like the NIL either. It's legal. But they're clueless and slow to act and want to know how they benefit. And sadly, winning championships doesn't appear to be the top of their benefit list. So yeah, it's not the bags, it's just general booster malaise, and not wanting to demand excellence for whatever reasons exist. These are folks who still didn't think our facilities needed updating.

And for those who dont think the bag game will diminish with the NIL, consider that a trainer or uncle fucking around and trying to leverage more payments and bags will actually become a THREAT to players signing and earning money in college through the NIL. There's a current Texas commit which is 100% proof of that right now.

This is so depressingly accurate. Stuff is in the works but its moving at a snails pace.

Bag games WILL be irrelevant with the NIL. Too many ways to do it legally now. Why give a kids uncle $80k in poker chips at Harrahs when you could instead just give him $80k to tweet about your shitty car dealership. Anyone that says the NIL isn’t the great equalizer doesn’t understand the NIL and what it can accomplish. And with some help, a little luck and the right people buying in, Texas won’t be left behind. I can personally assure you of that

While I agree, we are years away from the bag game going away. Cash is king, and cash now is even better. Unless you can guarantee an NIL deal, it isnt going to help much when Alabama says fuck all that here's 80k and a dodge charger lease.

I assume you are talking about weak bag game here.  Anyone paying casual attention to recruiting the last few years, including a prospective coach who was in the middle of it, should have known this was the case.  So strikes me as not very believable.

I think misrepresentations were made by cherry picking what went on during Herman's tenure.

Also the false message that we have built in desire to get things going. We dont even know what it means.

If you really dig into the personnel of this current Texas roster, it's got a long ways to go to compete with a team like Bama.

How many players on this current UT team could even compete for a two-deep spot at Bama??

The answer could probably be counted on 1 hand.

That's forty-four spots on the Bama two-deep, and less than 5 current Texas players would have a shot to earn one of those spots.

And theyre coming to our house next season. Game will get hyped through the roof as this clash of cfb powers. But in reality its a middling Big 12 roster versus an entire squad of fuck lions. And we will have all of these fans and donors that pretend like it isnt our standard when we dont keep up.
