  1. Honestly asking: now that we know the NCAA's NIL rule and what other states have done.. is there any hope of the Texas law being amended sooner rather than later to match the looser doctrines that everyone else is playing with? You would think this is is one area where there would be almost universal support since anyone even loosely affiliated with a football program in the state of Texas needs this to change ASAP. Or is amending that law something that will have to wait till 2023 when they finally fucking sit again?
  2. Hopefully they recognize the meme potential of a yearly Texas vs Tennessee 'Battle of the UTs' rivalry game and make that happen. Texas v Bama is probably the single biggest money making cross-divisional game the new SEC could put out each year, I would think, so unfortunately I imagine it swings that way with the pairings.
  3. Is Finkley a take for Alabama right now? I would assume so but you never fucking know with that program so figured I'd ask.
  4. Banks landing with the ducks would at least make sense. They sniped Williams even though the kid was telling his friends and coaches like 15 hours before he was going Texas. They flipped the WR that was a heavy ND lean with apparently just as little warning (he also was telling 'family connections' like the day before it would be ND). Now Banks goes from a late July commitment date and torn between Texas/Aggies to Oregon + moving his date up? A lot of this smoke coming out about not having his mind made up could just be cover for "I accepted a giant fucking bag and want people to be less suspicious". Their bag game has always been strong and the NIL rule passage by the NCAA gives them more of a green light than ever. At least if its Oregon we have a solid chance of getting him to flip back throughout the season if he has second thoughts about playing so far from home and/or they humiliate themselves against another Oregon St or Cal.
  5. At the risk of making this thread relevant to recruitment and the 2022 class again: Any recent word on Maalik relocating for his senior year? I assume that would have already happened by now but I remember there being talk about it like ~2 months ago. Even saw some mention of Cedar Park HS on a few boards as a landing spot (honestly can't remember if that was actually based on anything or pure guesswork). Not sure if this was ever anything more than complete bullshit but either way.. any news?
  6. Say we hold on with Winfield and add Thompson. Coleman goes wherever, Hudson to SMU, Marshall to the sheep fuckers, Shaz to SEC, Stewart to Gators or whoever ultimately drops the biggest bag and Williams decides to stay close to home at USC. In this not unlikely scenario who are the realistic option B targets to round out the WR class? I'd still be thrilled to have a WR class with just Thompson and Winfield either way. Not trying to be pessimistic (I still think Stewart is a coin flip and I think we could land Williams if we miss on other targets and make him more a priority) but haven't seen much discussion about lower tier WR targets in this class in months. Curious what names we should be keeping an eye on as fallback guys.
  7. Would we actually consider taking 3 Rbs in the 2022 class if both Citizen and Gatson say yes and Blue actually gets his shit together? Or is Gatson just in the mix as a consolation prize (a good one but still) if Citizen heads elsewhere and/or we move on from Blue? Main reason I ask is that people around the kid seem to think Texas would take his commitment immediately if he decided to give one. Was surprised to hear that but obviously they could be wrong.
  8. The part where in almost every single insider write up about the kid it mentions teams offering him the ability to play both sides of the ball? Almost as if this is perhaps something he values? Banks knows his future is at LB. That isn't the same thing as him not wanting to see the field on offense at all. TCU is offering early playing time as its major argument for why he should head that way. We can offer him the same on offense while still letting him spend the vast majority of his time working with and developing at LB. Would hardly be the first player we kept in specific packages while they transitioned fully to a different role.
  9. You would think Sark's offense would be an edge in fighting Fatterson for Banks. Even if his focus is on LB (and that seems to be where we want him as well) he could probably still crack the field as a FR just being worked into the screen game. Its not like we are exactly stacked at wideout with guys who are good after the catch. Especially if Jake Smith remains perpetually injured. I know its hardly some ground breaking thought or anything but I am surprised this isn't getting mentioned at all with Banks. Especially with regards to what could give us an edge over the accursed frogs.
  10. So it does replace the existing graduate transfer exemption. Hope they give additional clarity on what exactly would potentially qualify someone for an exemption waiver as a graduate. Is that going to be purely for hardship circumstances or if some kid burned his one-time xfer as a FR but then did really well scholastically and has the opportunity to go join a top graduate program might they get rewarded with a waiver? I imagine they leave it ambiguous so the corrupt jackasses running the process can just do whatever they feel like at the time.
  11. Based on the comment below by CTJ, directly talking about Woods, it would appear he is NOT this mysterious WRX. Also if Woods was the guy, and they were in the loop enough to know he was considering the portal before even Arkansas Insiders learned of it, they would also likely have known he was a hard OU lean out the gate and wouldn't be hyping it up as possible.
  12. I tried to give each new team a fresh chance to convince they were worth watching / investing time in. Generally by the first games of conference play it was always clear just more of the same Shaka-ball bullshit. Best immediate change with Beard is even if our team looks like ass early on I can reasonably expect them to actually improve as the season goes on. edit: on a side note I have no clue if the GroBros would ultimately be a great fit with Beard's scheme but considering how damned fun they were to watch in the tournament against KU I still hope we find out.
  13. Always happy to see someone who actually did come here to 'play school' have success in that area. Good for him. Still going to get some solid coaching under Wilcox and might fit better in Cal scheme anyway. Just glad this wasn't some kneejerk reaction to all the EOT shit resurfacing this weekend as I initially figured it might be. Sounds like he just had a good opportunity and seized on it.
  14. I was at that Agger v Pitt game back in 2003 or 2004 (the one in college station). Completely agree with you. Was in awe watching that kid play that day. Think he had like 3 effortless TDs or something like that. Was fucking a chick who went there at the time and I remember after the game a bunch of drunk conversations by their fans trying to figure out if we had just seen a god tier once in a generation type talent or if their defense was just that bad. I argued it was both.
  15. I think we are safe if Thompson wins the battle. In that case Card knows either (1) Thompson plays great and may end up going pro after just the one year or (2) At worst he is waiting till his JR year with a solid chance of taking the gig immediately if Thompson shows the same inconsistency in games he has so far in practices. If Card wins who the fuck knows. If we do lose Thompson to the portal you would think SOMEONE out there would be happy to slide right on in and fight for the backup job knowing they would be one snap away from starting at Texas.
  16. Reached right for Stanford hat. At least he didn't play any stupid fuckery games with the grab.
  17. Go Go Gadget Bag-o-matic
  18. Yeah but he is right handed so its natural to reach across the body and snag the Stanford hat. To grab the Texas one he would have to either reach over or weirdly snake his arm around the frame. On a side note it is fucking amazing to actually care enough about this program again to be analyzing how some non-critical recruit may or not may not have positioned his hats
  19. Definitely stanford. Reaching for that Texas hat around the picture frame would be awkward as fuck
  20. Drayton probably just saw that Bear Alexander to Georgia commitment and couldn't believe the giant brass balls on those flagrant cheating fucks lol Nah really though I'd have to think its LJ related or else its rather tone deaf to make vague insinuating tweets on signing day when you are in the final 2 for a high end RB while not being actively involved in the recruitment for any other players still on the board.
  21. How do these numbers compare to when they still had Tua or more mobility at the QB position under Sark? I know we won't be using our fucking QB as a RB2 like the Turtle but I would think if Thompson is QB there will still be a decent number of designed runs (at least a handful of a game) worked in to keep defenses honest. Might cut down on the total available carries some. Just food for thought edit: I could be way over estimating the elusiveness and running ability of Thompson as well; freely admit that
  22. Banks on offense. I see no one else rushing out the door. Coleman, Milwee and Flood could use time to cook under Sark before juicier offers come in and Drayton is happy here with his kids growing up. Banks... It is rare to see a ST/TE non-playcalling coordinator jump directly into a HC position but if we are successful I could see a non-P5 program like Houston or SMU going for Banks were they to become available. We just saw it with Marshal and the Bama RB coach. Sometimes a good recruiter with solid connections to build a staff is more important than having a guy who actually runs one side of the ball. On defense.. fucking hell. Everyone but PK could be out the door within the next few years. PK has shown zero aspirations for being a HC so I think he sticks but Choate could be out the door next winter. Maybe he waits for two full recruiting cycles to pad his resume and land a better gig (or perhaps skip the DC route and jump directly into a HC role again). Joseph is openly ambitious and salty as fuck he didn't get the ND gig so I expect the first decent full DC gig that comes calling will lure him away. Davis is an odd one.. not as familiar with his ambitions or potential lack thereof. I would think biggest risk with Davis is simply him deciding the NFL was more fun to coach in? Gideon isn't going anywhere any time soon unless he is a disaster coaching safeties and we 'help' him find another gig somewhere else. TLDR Banks on offense is only guy I see leaving within next few years unless Drayton just gets some silly offer. On defense... everyone but PK could leave as soon as next winter and it wouldn't surprise me.
