I’m sitting at the bar in a hotel in Boston last night, minding my business with a drink and waiting for my wife to come down. Drunk guy sidles up in the chair next to me and orders a Sam Adams. Turns to me and introduces himself, so I do the same. He eventually introduced himself 3 times in a brief 5 minute conversation.
He starts asking me questions about where I’m from, etc. Random bar conversations are not my thing but okay. I eventually say that I live in Texas, both Houston and Austin at different points, and he immediately says “you didn’t go to that school did ya?” I ask what he means. “The one in Austin.” I say, yeah, I went to Texas.
It’s at that point that he pulls his top coat back to reveal that he’s wearing an ATM pullover. Then proceeds to tell me he’s from a family of longhorns and he’s the black sheep. I simply say “well, hey, not everyone can get in” in a joking manner. Guy then says “all of you guys are assholes”, grabs his unoriginal beer and stalks off to a table.
These guys are insecure and humorless anywhere on the planet, and they’re always tripping over themselves to show it. It’s really weird.
One perk of living outside of Texas is not having to deal with these insecure assholes on a daily basis. So far my interaction with other SEC fans have been very positive. They are far more consumed about focusing on their own school than having some petty jealously like A&M and Big 12 fans. If you meet a Florida, LSU or Tennessee fan as an example they immediately talk about their coaches or players instead of pedantic anti-Texas nonsense that consumes all of the Big 12 fan bases.- 5

I do not know what is more remarkable. The fact that this is the extent of your analysis of a player of that I am somehow still surprised you are this obtuse.

Simmons and Moore are the best pure pass rushers
Finkley gets pushed around a little too easily.
Akana was highly recruited but at 215 lbs needs another real year of S&C.
Walton and Tapp are total unknowns.
Burke is solid, Sorrell looks maxed out and is not a pass rushing threat
Not that I needed another data point but suggesting Sorrell, who has improved every year he has been at Texas is maxed out is yet another data point in a long list that proves you do not know what the fuck your are talking about.- 1

Apparently you're not allowed to go to a bar if you're in your 40's according to Surly.
I miss Shaggy.
You shouldn’t go to a bar “with your crew” and get into physical altercations in your 40’s for damn sure.- 2

wtf happened to Mitchell? Seemed like everyone was convinced he was destined for greatness and was DRASTICALLY underrated by all the recruiting services. We thought he was going to be what Sweat turned out to be. And now he's overweight, out of shape, and can't crack the depth chart. Wild shit....
That’s not what a lot of us thought. We thought he needed to remake his body and would take 1-2 years of dedication to a college S&C program to see the field. He showed up last year out of shape and only got fatter. That’s actually pretty remarkable considering the success Becton has had at Texas. -

What if he did?
He took it seriously and gained a bunch of weight when he should have been trimming down and getting better at conditioning? I’m doubtful we see much of him this year unless he gets serious about his conditioning. -

Unless Broughton develops lower mass, he won't be anything more than serviceable. Collins will be good. Bledsoe and Savea will need to step up. Mitchell and Bryant are unknowns and shouldn't be counted on.
Edge will be a strength. DBs should be better at safety.
When I saw Mitchell was 373 pounds, I immediately thought wait until 25 on him. That’s not someone who took his freshman year S&C seriously. -

I think it’s important with this staff not to view pieces so statically and pencil in someone like Broughton as “serviceable rotation player.” Two years ago Broughton was unplayable. Last year he was serviceable. What if he continues to get better like most players seem to be doing under this staff and S&C program? Burke and Sorrel fall into that category as well. Fully expect them to stay in their current trajectory and go from pretty good to damn good this year.
This time last year Sweat was not a lock to be a first or second round player. Two years ago we questioned his conditioning and overall drive. Players are getting better under this staff and I think that’s going to be part of the solution to our interior line concerns.

I was just reminded of this conversation while sitting in a long line at the entrance to Changi airport immigration because some jackass had an electronic boarding pass which wouldn’t scan. I smiled as he was directed back to the ticket counter.
You screenshot your boarding pass like everyone else and never rely on the app. Rookie move.- 1

Becoming? hahaha. That motherfucker has ALWAYS loved the smell of his own farts. He's about 10% as clever as he thinks he is.
That may be true but I still enjoy listening to his thoughts on Texas football. Nahlin, however has absolutely zero redeeming values and I wouldn’t spend one second listening to his content. I wish Paul would leave and join Gerry and Bobby.- 4

Paul Waddlington decided to stay with IT for whatever reason. That content is pure garbage. How do we track non YouTube views? I always use Spotify to listen to content. I wonder what % of the content is non YouTube podcast format.

That makes for a cute tweet but the Bears are drafting Williams. -
I don’t get trading Fields for a 6th. He’s a cheap veteran and now you have to just sign a Tannehill/Wentz type for more money than Fields was set to make. The Bears should have just kept him and released him next year if a 6th round pick is all you get. Kudos to the Steelers for improving the QB position by investing nearly nothing.

I'll be the one person to say something quasi-nice about this kid since, to the extent injuries actually played a role (and we've always known he had a bad shoulder), I wouldn't feel good about just about anyone's career ending that way short of them being someone who hits/does things to women against their will, which is not the case here to my knowledge. So, on the plus side, losing him to Bama was a big deal in terms of getting Herman fired and he did us the service of not wasting a scholarship here. At least there's that, I guess
Fuck him. I feel really good about his career ending this way.- 2

Imagine being such a cunt as a person that a fan base is openly rooting for your entire career to go up in smoke. It couldn’t have happened to a better family.

I was just reading 24/7’s top 10 coordinator hirings this offseason. Now I’m not a huge 24/7 faithful one but I read because the world sucks right now and I use their strengths..the few. Anyway, I came away wondering why I had that really?/wait what?/that makes sense feeling all at once. I get the biggest splash was chip kelly but I don’t get why he still carries around this aura of goatness. Sure, he revolutionized modern football in many ways but there were plenty of other coaches that were doing similar things around that time(sadly the person that comes to mind is the fuck nugget from waco-if Kelly was before him, I apologize). I don’t know, I just think OSU is going to have a top 10 offense next year. They definitely have the talent don’t get me wrong and thatll make him look really good but there were some hires that will turn out better than that one.
James Joyce’s long lost stoned relative has joined the chat.- 2

Not to interrupt whatever the fuck is going on in here but Burton is reporting that Glasscock’s vacant role is going to be filled with internal promotions. Harris will be the new team GM.

As a Cowboys fan, I was dreading this matchup. Thought Oilers were the only team that could beat us that year. I thought our secondary was suspect and would get exposed by that offense.
That Oilers team was soft against the run, if I remember correctly. Instead of Aikman being the MVP Emmitt would have gone off against those guys. -
The only sad part about the Oilers epic collapse against the Bills as a Cowboys fan is being robbed of the opportunity to watch an all Texas Super Bowl in Pasadena. I was 12 when my father took me to the Rose Bowl for that game and it would have been glorious watching Cowboys v Oilers.

Reasonable people can disagree about the process for this latest coaching hire but if you hate on The Big Lebowski you can go fuck yourself.

This is dumb. Coaching is collaborative.
That’s probably why Satk lets Flood call plays? There is a person in charge for a reason.- 1

I hate to break it to you, but the Assistant Defensive Line Coach coaches the defensive line. What the fuck do you think Rod Wright's title was this year with the Texans?
No, the assistant line coach is not the one responsible for coaching the line. He’s not in charge. It’s like the analyst position. Helping out? Yes. Responsible for scheme and scouting? No.
