Do we always hire the more experienced candidate when filling positions?
No of course not. But when was the last time we hired a position coach at Texas that had never coached the position at the P5 level and only had one year in the NFL which did not even include being the position coach in that role, only an assistant. I don’t pretend to be the Texas Longhorn encyclopedia so maybe someone else knows. We paid the last guy 1M a year so our replacement budget should have opened the pool of candidates to a pretty large group of experienced candidates. -

Just shut the fuck up if you're going to open with Ed Orgeron being a bad DL coach hire. There's enough ignorant silliness inundating the thread. That didn't need to be added to the pot. Thanks.
Also, Sarkisian talked to Giles and he was a finalist. You guys are applying almost god-like abilities to Sarkisian's hiring practices. He's gotten most of the right. Gideon, Coleman and Stoops were bad hires. Two of those were unequivocally known as bad hires. The jury is out on Jackson, although it shows promise. Marion was meh. He didn't do shit in the WR room in terms of leadership and he quit on the job several months before leaving. This new guy might be great and he might not, but we narrowly missed having to watch a bunch of you rubes defend Oscar Giles rejoining the staff. Provide the benefit of the doubt to the hire if you like, but spare us the weak ass admonishment while mixing in an attempt to make a home run hire look stupid.
I don’t mind if he talked to Giles as a former Longhorn but if he actually considered him Jesus Fucking Christ. If the criticism about Davis was he was not an elite recruiter imagine going with Giles in that scenario. That’s through the looking glass-Joseph Hellerish level absurdity.- 1

Shit, I must have stopped watching the NFL for a while. I take it Western Kentucky is now at a level beyond the Miami Dolphins?
I guess I missed the part where he was the defensive line coach at Miami. I read “assistant defensive line coach”. As in, not the defensive line coach.

It's only a gamble because you don't know about him.
He has never coached the defensive line at a level beyond Western Kentucky. The only reason it has inherit risk is not simply the fans lack of knowledge. It is literally his own lack of experience. -

You dumb motherfuckers are full of yourselves and weakly sensitive. I point right the fuck at you.
I was bitching at all, I was talking in comfort. Your dumb ass couldn’t tell friend foe or murder if it was standing right next to you.
I read that post in the thickest of Asian accents and I literally cannot stop laughing.- 1

Not what I said and everyone that walks through that door better be ready to prove themselves. To terse for you then you can take it back to 360, or you can stay in the corner like a child playing with his dick when he’s nervous.
Even better than your drive by bitching about the board at large without being specific is you trying to pretend like you didn’t in fact do that. Fucking own it and quote who you disagree with and debate their points. -

There is something very comforting in seeing that all the blowhards here are against this hiring. If there is one thing that never changes, the heavy loud opinionated here are wrong almost all the time. Almost every time.
Stating that an unproven coach is in fact, unproven and comes with inherit risk does not make one against the hire. If that kind of hateful discourse bothers you so much you should redirect yourself to Orangebloods.- 2

In this day of NIL at Texas, being able to recruit seems like effort is mostly needed to be successful. From all accounts Bo Davis was more Oscar Giles than Tim Brewster in that regard. I’m less worried about his recruiting if he is hungry and looking to make a name for himself. He could actually be a plus recruiter if he uses this opportunity to breakout as a coach. It’s the lack of resume developing players but we will see I guess.

That Fangio hired him is one of the few tangible bullet points on his resume
Why does Fangio have this much street cred? I followed him closely when he was with the Broncos and the guy fucking sucked balls and was run out of town.- 1

This is definitely an unconventional hire. It was reported Sark was looking for someone proven to develop players who can recruit and this guy is mostly potential. I think it’s fair to wonder if this guy will work out. -
Time to raid the Michigan roster. It’s quite amazing how big of a piece of shit Harbaugh is. I love it.

You trip a lot of balls, according to your posts. I don't know whether that is disturbing or enviable. And yeah, I think you were the culprit who confused me.
It’s the new chocolate shrooms they sell now. When mixed with seven or eight Tito’s and soda I generally post my best material. If I’m posting past 10pm CST be highly suspect.- 3

Apparently I had my wires crossed in my brain and CR had nothing to do with his rep, just to be clear.
I think I misread someone who suggested he posted there and I commented on it. In my defense, it is very likely I was tripping balls when I made that post.- 1

That article did not read like a team ready to promote someone on the current staff.

Well I am biased against him - when asked if he was excited to play in the RRS, he basically said no - that he didn't care much about it. And then that is how we proceeded to play.
I didn’t see that quote but he played significantly better this year. PK subbed him in critical down and distance situations quite often and he played fine. If he stays on the development curve he will definitely be in the two deep. -

The fact of the matter is that we have bodies but I don't think we have the guys that allow our other players to maintain their assignments. We don't need LBs mugging gaps or safeties creeping up to the line of scrimmage to prevent teams from gouging us up the middle.
Broughton played significant snaps this year as we rotated Sweat and Murphy out quite liberally. And we were awesome against the run even when Broughton was playing. It’s not unreasonable to assume he also gets better like he did this year as well.- 11

I'm not so sure that that is the rotation. Broughton still has chicken legs and can't hold up at the line and doesn't have a lot of passion for the game. Mitchell hasn't played and couldn't play more than a few snaps from what I understand. Savea still needs to gain strength and prove that he can hold up against large OL. That's a lot of hope for a team that otherwise is stacked.
Broughton was in the rotation this year. -

Thank you for posting. So he graded better than Broughton who I thought played a lot better this year. And he appears to be an upgrade over Carter. Right now our four man DT rotation is Collins/Savea/Broughton/Mitchell unless we find someone else in the portal this summer. This assumes Mitchell has a good spring and has better conditioning next year. -

Show me where people “are losing their minds”. Having a healthy debate and criticizing does not mean people are questioning the direction of the program. That sounded more like projection on your part.
