I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll be lucky to get $3k for it if the batteries are shot. Used prices are in the crapper. I recently sold my 2019 EZGO 2+2 for $3k with a new lithium battery setup and lots of recent maintenance. It had an intermittent issue with a sensor, but ran fine unless it was going down a steep hill. I picked up an Evolution D5 Maverick with the two rows of forward-facing seats. It's awesome and was only $9k brand new. Highly recommend.

Jag F type with V8? 550 hp?
These are available in a manual? I had no idea! I drove a friend's SVR coupe for a day. It had plenty of character.
While we're at it, I would add the 981 Spyder to the "over-budget" list. Has OP picked anything up yet?

I'm gonna let this one marinate over the weekend as a multi-part post/response, just to see what ideas y'all come up with that I haven't considered.
I don't drive my S6 any longer and hate that I've sorta lost interest in the car, with a boatload of OEM RS and aftermarket parts sitting in the garage to get silly with. Since the original turbos haven't been lifted it yet, I thought this might be the right time to list it on Bring-a-Trailer, as a couple other similarly-modded cars sold well on the site lately. The proceeds will go toward a fun, perhaps smaller car.
My 'daily' is a Rivian R1T, so I have the utility part figured out. It's a quad-motor, 835hp unit, and is kind of silly on the street too.
I'm looking for ideas on something fun I'll want to keep in the garage for a while. Requirements as follows:- New or used. If preowned, prefer a modern powertrain with direct injection that's tune-able
- Budget of $75-$80k
- Manual transmission only
- GT, sports coupe or roadster format
- Offers some form of open-air driving
- RWD or AWD
- Something that feels 'special' to have in the garage, that makes you look forward to free time for a drive
At first, only two cars came to mind, both with V8s, but that has since changed completely. Let's see what you'd pick.
I don’t follow these closely, but they look within reason from a cursory BaT search. Some are more tunable than others. All offer unique top down manual fun.
Under budget: Viper (Gen II or III), Vantage V8 Roadster
Over budget (probably need to spend $90k): 997 turbo cab, R8 Spyder V8 -
I understand that Porsche has sort of reconfirmed its commitment to ICE power but nowhere have I seen any mention of a future Boxster/Cayman/718 ICE version. All electric as far as I can tell.
Nor have I, just pointing out the possibility.
I strongly recommend the GTS for resale because it has the flat 6. I don’t think the 4 cylinders will command a “last of its kind” premium.
If you’re looking for an open air Porsche and resale is important, maybe consider a 997 turbo cab, a 991 targa, or a Spyder. They’re used and are holding value well.
I have a 991.2 GTS and love it. You can’t go wrong with the Porsche driving experience. -

I'll just throw in here that I'm kicking around the idea of Porsche Boxster. Last year of ICE production. I like ICE power. Any opinions on the long term value of that vehicle? Will it hold any value? The MSRP is in the $90-$100K range for 2025 models, which is really expensive compared to the same model 5-6 years ago. It's a 10 year old platform and drive train design, but could be a really fun car to have in the garage for all those super nice Houston spring and fall days.
A Boxster would be a great weekend toy. Get a manual 4.0 GTS if you can swing it. Trim and options matter for value retention, but a Boxster will not hold value as well as GT cars or 911s. Porsche has walked back some of its electrification commitment. If they build another ICE Boxster, the 718 will no longer be "the last one."

Maybe pool related... I have an undeveloped sloping backyard. At minimum, I want to level out part of it for a play scape and create space for the kids to play. Maybe add a trampoline or putting green. I have no clue how much this would cost - I assume at least $50k-$75k. I'm also considering the pool route, depending on how much each project would cost together/separately. Does Surly have any recommendations for companies that do this work in Austin?

Not affiliated but a very longtime friend. He'll get you out on Harris Hill, Cota, or dirt and gravel rally depending what you want to do. Lots of instruction experience in all sorts of cars.
This was a great recommendation, thank you. I took my car to Harris Hill on Friday and it was a blast. I was nervous about doing this for the first time in the wet but it was even more fun that way. Jon was a great teacher. Very positive and encouraging.-

I'm looking to get some performance driving training. I hear Harris Hill Raceway offers some where you can take your own car. Does anyone have any other Austin area suggestions?

You could look at our lineup when we went on the run during the Tucker injury, know that was a fluke, and many of those guys would regress to the mean. And here we are. Oh well.

I just signed up for Fubo because of the blackout. Can’t do YTTV because the Astros but now I notice Fubo doesn’t have TBS which will carry some playoff games. So frustrating.

An easy way to talk about this without using real numbers is in relation to yearly spend as X, i.e. if you spend $100,000 a year and have $2.5M you’re at 25X. Using the X discussion lets everyone scale up and down for their situation.
Does the spending 'X' include federal taxes or just what you spend in a year to live?

That will be an epic experience. Can’t wait to read about it. I’d do a Fjord green or Oslo blue coupe on a brown interior.

Honest question. Do yall trust this organization to rebuild? Is Dana Brown the guy and if so, can he do it without Crane/Bagwell meddling?

Submitting a new frivolous acquisition - 991.2 Carrera GTS in agate grey with 7MT. I haven't had a "fun" car in years. The itch has been growing and I settled on a manual 911. I've been patiently waiting for a car to come for sale with my preferred options and color (grey or blue). When this one popped up with all the boxes checked, I pulled the trigger. It is an absolute blast!

Anyone been in the market recently? Need to upsize my wife's almost 8 YO Jeep Grand Cherokee to something larger. Curious if dealerships are still regularly charging above MSRP or if that BS is dying down. Was hoping with these rates things were getting better but I see Texans are just financing at these idiotic rates. I'll be paying cash with these rates unless I need to "finance" to get a better deal (in which case, I'll confirm no prepayment penalty and write a check the next month).
I ordered a Yukon last November at MSRP from Covert Bastrop and the environment has only improved since then. That said, the Covert on 183 tried to charge $10k over sticker at the time. It took 2-3 months to arrive. -

Lots of good suggestions here. My parents are about 70 and live in a 55+ community called Heritage Grand in Cinco Ranch. They love it. Lots of social neighbors that take care of each other. I’d consider looking for a similar development in your target area.

My appraised value is down 12% but taxes owed will still be up 10% this year and for the foreseeable future. Good times.

Sent in my first ever submissions to PSA a month ago and got them back yesterday. Was hoping for a 10 on this one and got it.
What was the process like? I have a few cards I want to get graded. I know PSA was always the gold standard but do people look down on other graders like Beckett? -
X7 is mental leader of the pack. GV80 is out, although it is very nice on the interior and is a good looking SUV. Just doesn’t quite have it - several little things bugged me with the test drive. And if I’m going to spend that much, I don’t know that a souped up Hyundai makes a lot of sense.
Sample size of one but my friend has a X7 with 50k miles and it is in the shop quite a bit. I just got the wife a Yukon but have less than 1000 miles on it so hard for me to give any constructive feedback.-

Yeah 2022 will be left in the rear view. At least the second half of it. Good thing is I think we’re heading in the right direction, and it seems Real Estate is starting to pick up lately, especially with the younger crowd. About half our clients are under 28. I think they realize the window of buying a home without competition is closing as buying season approaches and a lot are moving on that aspect.
Very small sample size but half of the homes FS in my hood went pending in December after months of stale inventory. Most everything left are renovation projects.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the buying season this spring. We haven’t experienced one at the current rate levels yet. Will buyers come back in a meaningful way? If not, inventory will continue rising and maybe we see more downward price pressure.-

Don't want to start a thread -- I have a used vehicle I want to sell in Austin. What are the go-to websites for such a thing?
I've had terrible luck selling random crap on craigslist the last couple of years, it has really gone downhill. I've never sold a vehicle except to friends, so I'm unaware of the best non-scammy options.
I’ve bought and sold vehicles on autotrader, cars.com and on enthusiast forums (if it is a vehicle that has a following). All went smoothly but I haven’t done it in five years or so. -
Based on the publicly available MLS, it seems like prices in my Austin neighborhood are down ~20% off their frothy spring peak. Most homes listed are sitting for months. Several flip houses bought between Q4 2021 through Q2 2022 have come to market recently and all are sitting, even after price cuts. I wonder how long the late train investors can hold on or if demand will come back before they break.

Have any Austin folks done a build-out/leveling to a sloping native backyard? Mine is dirt and rocks backing to a greenbelt. I want a level area big enough for the kids to play and a putting green would be nice perk. Do I start with a landscape architect to get plans and a budget estimate? Any recommendations for such a person?
