  1. I’ll play somewhere in Palm Springs at the end of the month (welcome recommendations). In April I’m going to play in Charleston before going Augusta for a Masters practice round (first time). In July I might make it across the pond to the Open. Solid potential for the year.

  2. What's his/her (it's almost always "his") portfolio.  Is your remodel/addition in his wheelhouse?  When I was doing Medical office and Surgery Center stuff, my guy was terrific, but I wouldn't trust him to do a remodel on my house.  Everybody's got a wheelhouse.

Thanks. This is what I was wondering about. If I want something contemporary, don’t hire someone who does mostly modern farmhouse, etc. And I assume I want someone who has done several additions, not only new builds. I was unsure how adaptable architects are across different types of projects.

  3. I am considering an addition and wondering where to start to determine the feasibility of the project and get a budget estimate. Right now I have a 2000 sqft 3/2 split level with 3 bedrooms on one "wing" of the house and an open concept living/dining/kitchen on the other "wing" over the oversized garage. The interior was gutted and redone about 15 years ago.

My thought for the addition is to add 1000 sqft for a large master bedroom suite and office on top of the bedroom "wing" and possibly a rooftop deck. I would reno the kitchen to add storage and increase functionality while we're in construction hell.

Is the first step to call a contractor(s) to get a quote? Are they able to tell if the current house can support such an addition or is that an engineer's job? Or do I call an architect first? My biggest fear is that we rip the roof off the home only to be told that the structure cannot support a 2nd floor.

I have not ruled out any option, including tearing down and rebuilding ($$$$) or moving within my neighborhood (least amount of stress but $$$ to get what we want).

Some places I've been have been pretty awful and the salesperson basically did nothing more than open up the case. No enthusiasm, no talking about what really stands out about the watch, no discussion of why its worth $10k or whatever. Just "here, try it on. Mirror is over there." It definitely makes a difference in the overall decision-making process. I love Zenith as a brand, but I won't be buying one from the guy I talked with. If I ever do decide to get a Zenith, I'll give the store (AD) another opportunity and go in to discuss with another sales person and see if it is a different experience. If it isn't, then I'll buy online and simply get a cheaper price. With Cartier, I will order from Zadok before I go back to the boutique. Not that they weren't friendly, but the experience I had at Zadok was tremendously different than at Cartier. For the better.

I live in Austin where there is no Zenith AD, so I emailed the AD in Houston (there is only one) about the new Chronomaster Original. The rep that responded was totally clueless. Next time I was in town on business I went by in person to see if they had it. They did, but I had the exact same horrible experience as you did. I am still waiting to try a tri-color on stainless bracelet but I sure as hell won't buy it from the Houston AD. I'm going to give the Dallas AD a shot next. If that doesn't work out, I will consider buying direct online or just move on all together.

Pretty sure I have asked this before but is this a good looking or ugly watch? Is it too flashy with the rose gold? Just tried this on and deciding if I should buy it.

Probably my least favorite of the GMTs, but buy what you like. More importantly, where did you find a Rolex for sale? Second hand I assume? I want a Batman but not close to wanting it $20k bad.

  6. I just ordered a tan leather band for my Yachtmaster...

The band I really want, but couldn't find (my skills on searches are not optimal), is this...

If anyone here does have the skills or a line on where I might purchase such a band I'd be most appreciative.

Stone Creek Straps does custom straps of all varieties. I got a brown leather rally strap with deviated stitching and curved spring bars for my Hamilton Pan Europ. It was arguably higher quality than the watch.

Given that I generally like Porsche designs, I do not care for either of the sedans.  Or the Boxster, yet I like the Cayman.  I think rather than actually liking the 911, I'm just used to it and appreciate what it symbolizes.

So really, you only like one of the five Porsches (non-SUV) on the market? Seems like you might generally dislike Porsche designs, at least currently...

Right aren’t these our tickets from two years ago? I had 2 then now have 2 now, technically not feeling another win unless I have 4 tickets now??

Correct, that is what they told us would happen from the beginning.

4 on monday.....again.  got refund from 2020 monday tickets.  and win  these this year.

Same for me. They said 2020 people who didn't get 2021 tickets would get them for 2022. Still happy to have a chance to go.

  10. Does anyone have experience with IW Mark in Houston? They are the closest Zenith AD to Austin and I want to go by to see the new Chronomaster Original this week.

I emailed them to ask if they had any in stock and they said they have two, one 42mm and one 37mm. There is only one size, a 38mm (which it has been for 50+ years mind you).

I don’t know shit about watches relative to you guys, but how could the AD not know their brand’s newest release? I want to see it on the wrist before buying. I can only assume they do not have one since they don’t know WTF I am talking about.

  11. I played Oak Hills CC in San Antonio yesterday. I don't hear it talked about much, but it was fantastic. Course conditions were great, especially the greens. Tillinghast design is fun and makes it feel very old school. They had nice clubhouse facilities as well.

Next week I am playing TPC Craig's Ranch for the first time. I was told they were punching the greens at the beginning of the month. I assume they will be healed by next week. Then the week after that I will be golfing on Long Island. Throw in watching the US Open, June is shaping up to be preetttty, pretty good.

Ya it’s definitely gone up from when we inquired last year. They also told us they plan to go up even more by the end of the year. I can believe it when you compare the cost to anything else in the area. We went ahead and joined yesterday.

Probably in the wrong order but I was just trying to get a feel of how the golf community there was. How are tee times right now outside of Saturday and Sunday morning?

A lot of my friends in Austin don’t love golf so I was wondering if people are open to me joining their tee time.

I am also interested in just playing a round of two per week in the afternoon by myself as I have been working on my swing a lot lately.

    I responded before reading this.

I recommend playing in some of the MGA events during the week or join one of the weekend money games. GNO is every other Wednesday evening and a great way to meet people. There is a Friday Open every week. I think they are still doing the money game around 9am or 10am on Sat and/or Sun.

The tee sheet fills up pretty fast even after "the purge," especially the weekend. I recommend booking 5-7 days in advance as much as possible for weekends and mornings. Sometimes tee times free up from people who cancel the day before. You can usually walk up and get out in the afternoon and evening without much trouble.

I hope the initiation is the only thing they continue to increase this year. If they increase my dues again (they already doubled them last year), that may be the last straw and cause me to leave for greener pastures.
