  1. Shitty game. I feel like when you’re facing elite pitching it’s better to be a bit more passive but the ump had a huge zone so that strategy didn’t work. We just had to do a better job of pitch recognition against their starter. We only really were competitive when their starter and reliever were each getting worn out. It may not have helped in preparing for this game that our competition in the regional and super regional were so weak. However, at the end of the day we lost because of a billshit triple that should have been foul but for a strong wind pulling it fair.
  2. Doing some cursory research, it seems Bednar spins his low 90s fastball up to 2600-2700 RPM and his slider up to 2900 RPM. Lol we had no shot against that. That’s shits elite
  3. I think I'd rather face the Domers as Bednar would be a much tougher matchup than Kohlhepp.
  4. I believe they lost their best pitcher to injury back in April along with another starter who projected to be in their weekend rotation.
  5. Imagine sitting in 106 degree sun for hours to watch this lol.
  6. The numbers on this reliever do not look good. I guess Tech is waving the white flag and saving their better relievers for tomorrow.
  7. Good grief. I hope this game isn't what MLB looks like in a few years.
  8. Agreed. He has around a .400 xwOBA and is an elite defender. I think if anything this season has shown that he can be the star we all hoped for. He’s having a breakout season that’s being obscured by some extremely poor luck in April and early May.
  9. He’s just not very good. The fastball has good velo but the command isn’t good enough to make it that dangerous and his splitter is too inconsistent to be a real weapon. Framber, though, he’s an ace.
  10. Yeah, based on his SwStr% if anything his K% should be lower than it already is. Hopefully they give him an extended look at some point.
  11. The Skeeters have been pretty dominant. I went Saturday and Solomon dominated.
  12. Did you see Bermudez pitch? He's been killing AA this season and I wouldn't be surprised if the Astros give him a shot before the trade deadline if he keeps it up.
  13. He's been very good outside of his first couple of appearances. I'm excited for Framber's return but a little worried about his start tonight. He was a little shaky in his AAA rehab and he doesn't seem to be all the way back yet.
  14. It's unfortunate that McCormick is on the 40 man but not either Siri or Meyers. It doesn't look like McCormick will be a viable alternative to Straw should he continue to to hover around 40% below league average as a hitter. It's looking more and more likely that the Astros will need to trade for a CF at the deadline.
  15. A false flag zoom meeting gun brandisher? That's heavy.
  16. He’s fine against LHB but you can’t let him see good RHB. Baez being hurt and Smith being garbage is really hurting the Astros. I’d like to see them try fresh blood until at least Paredes returns. No point in rostering Raley, Scrubb, and Emanuel.
  17. I'm not very familiar with the Braves' farm but that's quite impressive for him to be the opening day starter in A+ considering his age and lack of pro experience. Will be interesting to see if he has picked up any velo since leaving Texas.
  18. How about we just bench Straw and try Tucker in Center with Diaz in RF? Tucker is a pretty good defender and might be okay in CF if they are willing to give him a chance.
  19. He definitely has better stuff than I thought he had playing at Texas - i've read his curveball spin is over 3000 RPM for instance, which is about what Framber spins his at and Framber's is one of the best curveballs in the game. It's odd for a pitcher to go from 7.6 SO/9 in D1 to 12+ SO/9 in the NYPL. Not a good look for the Texas coaching staff at all.
  20. Blair Henley getting the opening day start tonight for Asheville. He's performed better as a prospect than I would have expected given his tenure at Texas.
  21. What was BWG’s alternative direction? It wasn’t Ivey was it? That would be too humorous. I think part of why BWG and some others like Haley are a little skeptical of Bead has to a lot to do with Beard’s style of play and how incongruent it is with the direction basketball is heading. If Beard can keep stacking talent I’m not sure how much that will matter. IMO, talent acquisition > development/deployment.
  22. I doubt they believe Leon is a viable candidate to replace Correa. They odds of him being good enough to play SS at an MLB level (outside of an occasional spot start) within a year are remote. There is also plenty of money to sign someone like Semien or someone even better to fill that hole. The Rays do stuff like this a lot because of their unforgiving budget constraints but i'm not sure of what use the strategy will have here and it could be counterproductive if it delays his entry into the majors given the lack of other internal options the Astros have for CF.
  23. Some speculation that since Dusty said “reasons” rather than “protocols” that maybe he didn’t test positive and simply is feeling side effects from his second dose, which isn’t all that uncommon. Who knows though. In other news, I’m very surprised the are starting Leon at SS in Corpus. If you want to fast track him to the majors why dick around with cross-training him at SS?
  24. He was down 5-6 mph in Denver for almost the entirety of his start. I was worried that he was injured but I guess the weather made him that uncomfortable. The shape of his breaking pitches has improved a lot since he first arrived but he doesn't have the ability yet to keep them down. I think he has a higher ceiling than what he's shown so far if he can make a few tweaks.
  25. Six regular players this season with an OPS > .800 in Melendez, Zubia, Williams, Daly, Antico, and Hodo with three of those being over .900. Texas hasn't had that many players with that high of an OPS since prior to 2016 (the earliest year D1Baseball provides data). Also, interesting to note that Melendez has a slightly higher OPS than Kody did in his final season at Texas. If he can learn to field 3B competently he could be an interesting prospect to follow after he leaves Texas.
