Liucci has apparently also been saying there's been some internal pressure to just hire Robinson with a good OC and current defensive staff. Imagine them firing Jimbo in case they beat LSU and instead it happens with Robinson who ends up getting the job.

What “good OC” is going to want to tie themselves at the hip to what is clearly an interim HC until someone better comes along? They ended up with the motorcycle bandit last time and that was with the $76M man still showing up to work.

  2. If Elko is the choice and he accepts, Elijah Robinson should throw his resume in the hat for HC at Duke. I’d be pleased with that result.

Also - these SEC short clips might be one aspect of moving to the SEC that concerns me the most. I don’t want to be subjected to this god awful humor or the people that like it in perpetuity.

For someone that doesn't follow recruiting super closely, what's the issue with North Shore?

IMO - They recruit kids from all over the state based on talent alone. A lot of these kids have trouble managing their egos and behavior once they get to college after being told they’re the best in the country for 3-4 years straight.  That district has tons of talent though, probably better off focusing on the Summer Creeks and Atascocitas long term.

Supposedly these are two of the issues with the shitshow in BCS right now:

    1) The money isn't super excited about perceived options on the market. Questions being asked around assistant coaching options haven't been answered in ways that get anyone excited. There's the notion of meh-if-you-do and meh-if-you-don't. That's not going to open up a bunch of wallets.

    2) All of their chest-beating, including Sharp and Liucci doing so repeatedly and loudly, about money is now a problem. Gentle outreach into the agent world has been met with "it's gonna cost ya" and the expectation that anyone willing to head to BCS would receive similar treatment in the new contract to what Fisher had - meaning no performance based clauses and no tempered buyout. Plus the money would be in Fisher's range or higher.

They don't have that kind of money. Hell, no one does. Texas couldn't muster $26M now, plus another $8M to release assistants, then pay another $5-20M in someone else's buyout, then be on the hook for a fresh $10+M in HC salary, plus $5M to the requisite assistants, plus the annual $7M on top of that to Fisher. That shit is insane.

Perception is more important than anything else to ATM. They've now hoisted themselves by their own petard, in the aggiest of ways. They are either going to have to take the public beating of being mocked for keeping Fisher and not actually being nearly as loaded as they've claimed to be for years, or they're going to sacrifice numerous other projects and programs to get rid of the guy and hire a suitable replacement. If they try to middle it and fire the guy but make a cheap and unimpressive hire, they're still going to face enormous ridicule.

All of those amounts and then add increased NIL needs once you fire the current guy try to keep the little talent they have left on campus while dipping into the transfer portal.  That's a lot of scratch. I've been telling people, it's not a matter of the money being there in aggie wallets, the difficulty will be enticing them to open them up for a guy like a Traylor.

And to your point - why would the new guy accept anything substantially less than Fisher got when they've been crowing about how rich they are? I cant imagine them being successful approaching a guy like a Traylor and offering him a 5 year $30M contract. He could literally name his price because the fallout and perception of him turning down the offer would be disastrous (for aggies, not me).

I'm too busy today to bring much more over from this amusing thread on Texags about their status as a coaching destination.

Dennis "Frantastic" Francione wanted out of Bama. They were a mess at the time. Not exactly like luring away Saban.

Jimbo? Stolen? We all know the story there. He was just a few seconds away from getting a boot mark on his ass.

    1 True. A&M is an agent's dream.

    2 Facilities! Facilities! Facilities!

Gee, I wish I could live in a paradise like College Station and be in constant awe of what Kyle Field is.

looks like someone could use a reminder on what the term flagship means and how many there are

I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but in the full presser he kept using the term collected in reference to the amassing of talent on the Aggie roster. As in they have collected a bunch of talent. Thought that was interesting as it refers to both a potential NIL collective and classes being bought, but also has a clearly different meaning than recruited or identified or developed.

  7. yea, just take the under and profit. it did drop from 53.5 to 52.5 though.

I still think 7.5 wins sounds about right. That was -184 to begin the year on my book. The loss to Miami likely makes it a 7-5 year.  I think that likely means one of Coleman or Bussey leaves the class, probably an OL, and maybe another LB or S. #15 class or so when its over.

Losing an OL and a LB is disaster for their roster though, they really needed a big class at both positions. Now they're going to be desperately portal hunting in a year with a questionable future of the coaching staff and desire from the wallets to throw in for NIL.  I'm here for it.

  8. Congrats to your 2023 Nielsen Ratings champions the New York Yankees.

I don’t know about you guys but I personally judge my favorite teams performance and successes based on how many people watch them. Who gives a shit about wins and losses anyways.

  9. The day they remove Jimbo from his duties, they should auction off that Jimbo national championship trophy to  Longhorns to raise money for his termination payment. I’d put up a couple Benjamin’s to have that in my office at work.
