The janitors at the PCL do not qualify as “UT administration” sir

I don't know man, these janitors came all the way to California to meet me and couple other alumni. They also asked me to be on the board of the new incubator to foster entrepreneurship among UT engineers.

  2. I just had lunch with some folks from the UT administration yesterday. We briefly talked about UT athletics among other things (primarily helping the engineering department). They echoed what most of us already thought about RT. They said CDC had very little choice but to offer him the job but they didn't think he could be an elite coach.

  3. We just need to be patient with RT. Rome wasn't built in a day. There are plenty of examples of hall of fame coaches who didn't exactly set the stage on fire in their first few years as head coaches. Dan Hurley was pedestrian in his first 4 years at UConn as others have pointed out. The screenshot below is the record of another HOF coach at a blueblood program. Guess who that is. Give RT 5 years to prove himself.

So much of being a good college coach is recruiting, so yeah.  You could roll a ball out there and that squad would win 99% of their games.

Not saying recruiting doesn't matter but that team is very well coached. They don't play hero ball like most college teams do.

The hustle on both sides of the ball and the decision making on moving the ball around by both teams makes me sad for Texas mens basketball.

If we are being honest, our women's team was not in the same league either. I thought we lacked team speed and athleticism to make a deeper run.

I read an article yesterday regarding academics in the SEC, and yeah, it's bas. We came in at number 3 behind Florida and Vandy, and the rest were woof. They make Blinn look like Stanford.

The SEC has more quality schools than the Big 12. With Texas, the conference will have at least four Tier 1 schools (if you include Aggy), which is not that bad.

That’s not saying much. I may alter my viewpoint once I see what he pulls (or doesn’t) in the portal haha. Nevertheless, RT will be judged by W/Ls.

Regardless, I love Texas Athletics and will vigorously follow the basketball program - same as I am with our schizophrenic baseball team, and with football when they stunk it up for 11 seasons straight (compared to the stint before it).

Bottom line, I want RT to succeed, and I’m very excited to watch Tre Johnson next year, but I’m certainly not sold on RT as a long-term option. I hope like hell I’m wrong, though. The worst thing that could happen is he’s just another coach who makes the tourney, wins a game here and there, and this program stays relatively static - when it has so much potential. I think that’s why @shadow_operative is so upset about all of this. He doesn’t hate RT or something of the sort. In actuality, he’s deeply disappointed that Texas Basketball had a potential 20-year guy at the helm who then offed himself by being a damn fool before the going got really good. Then, Texas replaced him with someone who possesses (seemingly) way less potential for mega success without really conducting a search. I get it. I empathize with that sentiment.

Again, though, RT must lose the job - which he definitely has not done at this point. If and when that happens, I’m confident in CDC to make a fantastic hire.

You summed it up really well. I was upset because our program took a major setback when CB was let go, and I felt like RT won't be able to keep us in the same upward trajectory. Now we have posters telling us that we should just accept and be happy with what we've got given our history in this sports. The Baylor or Gonzaga examples tell us otherwise.

This thread's title doesn't mean we just discuss firing RT here. It's a catchall thread to whine about our basketball coaching shortcomings. This is not the only thread of this kind where people whine about certain coaches.

While I understand what you're saying, we better hope Mukuba is more successful - because that means Texas is impacted more positively at the safety position.

Mukuba has more upside than Taafe in probably every trait. So, I want his potential realized. If it is, that realized potential will generate very impactful production and Texas Football will be better for it.

That being said, Taafe provides very good depth and leadership in the safety room.

Taafe is a coach on the field.
