Everyone is playing for second behind UCONN anyway, so does it really matter?
I would like to see Purdue play Uconn in the championship game. Should be a great game if those two can make it there.

A bit, but UH was a natty caliber team that was absolutely decimated by injuries this year. Shead was just the cherry on top. They stay like 80% healthy they probably win it all.
I don't think Houston ever had the offense to win it all. Same goes for Tennessee and Barnes. Their best usually is Final 4.

Seems like Big 12 was overrated this year.

This Marquette team is playing like Shaka's teams at Texas. Has he made the team do the breathing exercises yet?

i was just thinking about this. gonna take some time to compile a list, but there’s defintely a changing of the guard taking place. i still have bill self way up near/at the top, but the recent/semi-recent order with names like coach k, roy williams, tom izzo, jay wright, tony bennett etc being at the top is changing. names like hurley, oats, beard, lloyd, otzelberger are climbing, while guys like barnes, sampson, and pearl are still doing their thing at a high level. it’ll be an interesting exercise to try and rank these guys.
Mark Few and Scott Drew should be on that list.

Mitchell and Hunter portalling is the best for all parties involved. I don't think giving them diminished roles would have worked. Time for RT to earn his paycheck and find some gems in the portal.

You still need 5 players on the floor and a guy that can handle the ball. Telling Hunter to walk when we have no one close to soak up his usage is an idiotic strategy.Hunter can't handle the ball. I know that's his position but he has shown no ability to fight off any kind of press. Even when nobody is pressing him, he would dribble into traffic and turn the ball over. I don't think PG is his natural position. Maybe he can play better off the ball.

Mitchell and Hunter had plenty of opportunities to improve over the last two years. It's not like their minutes were limited and didn'tget enough chances to showcase their talents. They just are not good players, and hoping for them to miraculously improve next year will only set us up for failure. Hopium is not a winning strategy. It may be a good coping mechanism for the fans (works for Aggy), but the coaches are paid millions to know better.

He also stuck him with the guys that went to the elite 8 that you keep wanting to give RT all the credit for.
You're only "stuck" in season, which was 2023, not the next season in this era of portal.

They are triple teaming him.

Purdue is extremely big everywhere. Not sure mormon aggie is gonna be able to hang for very long.
How do you defend Edey? I just can't believe their early exits despite having a player like him.

ESPN radio this morning saying Barnes got redemption for Texas' mistreatment of him. I'm sure they'll have a similar take on Shaka tomorrow.
Both those assholes were mailing it in. Barnes the later years, and Shaka his entire tenure.
They said the same things about Mack. Apparently, we have to give a lifetime contract to a coach if he or she wins anything of significance.
-
I believe RT gets 3 years or more if he can make the tourney again next year. What might accelerate his firing, however, is us underperforming the teams led by our former coaches and Aggy. If Beard, Barnes, Shaka and Aggy have better seasons than us next year, RT's leash will get shorter imo.

The emotions are coming from finally overcoming his repeated futility in the tourney. He realized how close he came to that outcome again.

Just wait until Beard gets it together next year
If he gets hired by Kentucky, he will probably torment us in the SEC for years to come.

Shaka needs to lose this game, which I believe he will. I can't handle two of our fired coaches advancing farther than us in the same season.

How dare he criticizes RT's coaching decisions! Letting Hunter play so many minutes and inbound when he kept turning the ball over was the definition of insanity.

I’m aware of that fact. So do you think propping Barnes up on the premise is positive?
See above.
RT came from the Barnes coaching tree, so there is a "master and apprentice" relationship there. I don't think it's deeper than that.

Just now, MrX said:
You also called Rick Barnes “the master” so you might be biased.
He is the "master" because RT was his assistant. Try to catch up.

Stellar performance by Dillon Mitchell - 2 pts, 4 rebs in 26 minutes
We don't talk about his performance because that's par for the course for him.

Why don't you go back to giving us your view of RT's elocution.
If you think he is eloquent, then you're one stupid MF and you're not worth arguing with on an anonymous internet board.

Let's say he makes the second round next year.
What happens?
He gets to coach through his contract for sure. He has done enough to date to coach at least 3 years.

Barnes won 2 tournament games his last 6 years here.
Yes, that's because he had earned himself a longer leash. RT hasn't.

Glad we cut the deficit down to a manageable 12. Hopefully, Aziaha cools off in the second half.
