Which sucks because he's got such a nice family. He moves well, but he's way too soft or weak to be playing out there right now.

There was a play on Saturday where I'm convinced he thought he was going through a walk through practice.  It was pathetic.

Bijan really got kinda shut down in the second half and even parts of the first half.  If not for that 50 yarder he had, it was a very mediocre game for him.

Only ~30 yards in the second half.

Should have played two RB's at the same time on a bunch of plays and kept the running game going.

Some better blocking would have helped him out a lot.

Looking forward to a better Oline next year.

And running out the rest of this year to finish 10-2 + we'll see what happens in a bowl game.

I think we're getting better and can make a run at the big 12 title and maybe see OU Sucks again before the year is out.

Looking forward to a better oline next year? How do you figure that is going to happen?

Lander Barton gives the Texas Longhorns visit high marks

On300 No. 176 Lander Barton made an official visit to Texas last weekend, and gave the entire experience in Austin high marks.

On300 linebacker Lander Barton (Salt Lake City Brighton) is fresh off an official visit to the Texas Longhorns. And the 4 star prospect could not have been more impressed leaving Austin.

“The game environment stood out,” Barton told On3. “That stadium. It’s a crazy big stadium. It was a great game day environment. Austin is a great city,”

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound long-armed prospect didn’t hesitate giving every part of the trip high marks.

“It was an all around good trip. I was there for football. It was all business. Obviously, the offense putting up 70 points on Texas Tech was impressive. I liked some of Coach PK and Coach Choate’s scheme, too.”

The main goal of Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and the coaching staff was making sure Barton, a Utah legacy, felt at ease in Austin.

“Coach Sarkisian told me the most important aspect of the visit was feeling comfortable at Texas. He didn’t pressure me, but he told me how much they wanted me. And that they feel like I’m a good fit.”

So that begs the question. Did the No. 176 ranked prospect in the On300 feel that comfort and fit on the visit?

“Yes, I could see myself at Texas. I just really felt comfortable there. I didn’t have anything negative about the visit.”

With both parents being former athletes at Utah, along with three siblings, making the decision to go a different direction could prove to be difficult. Barton’s father, Paul Barton, relayed a very important message to his son at the end of the visit.

“My parents both really liked Austin and Texas. In our last meeting with Coach Sarkisian, my dad said I had his blessing to attend Texas if that’s what I want to do.”

The younger brother of NFL LB Cody Barton and NFL OT Jackson Barton still has plenty of recruitment in front of him. He will make an official visit to Utah October 16 and Oregon October 30. The possibility remains of a final visit to either UCLA or USC. Michigan hosted Barton September 11.

I'll be shocked if this guy ends up anywhere but Utah.

No doubt?  You have no doubt, huh?

And fuck the “two recruiting classes” noise. If he doesn’t make appreciable changes this year, and finish with an aughts-type record in his second year, he’s not the coach for us, and even if he does that in Year 2, he still might not be the guy, as Herman showed us in ‘19 and ‘20.

    This.

Matt Rhule took over a Baylor dumpster fire and by year 3 they won 11 games.  The tools are there for Sark.  We just have to put it together and we should be able to win 9 games.

Don’t worry it won’t ever be public at Texas. From Mack to sark it’s never been that way. And maybe that’s a issue. Your fan base would fucking love you if you showed some emotion that this isn’t happening again, and by not happening again I’m not talking about losing a game but playing like passionless pussies and with no fight or no energy isn’t happening again at Texas.

You are aware that Tom Herman was our coach for 4 years?  He was all about the tough guy persona and chewing asses out.  Obviously that did not work out either.

Yeah Tigerdroppings is currently like taking a time machine to this board after maryland rd 2.  There are still some people trying to say O can get it done(claiming UCLA is a top 10 team lol ) but mostly are resigned to the dumpster fire they will be.

The difference is that he found a way to win one.  The question is who lucked into a championship more... Gene Chizik or Ed O?

Okafor wasn't the only one. Christian Jones doesn't look like a strength at left tackle, either, especially in pass blocking. To focus on the OL is being a little churlish. Watching Mack Brown's UNC team get absolutely destroyed on the line of scrimmage reminded me how many years (aka decades) we've had terrible offensive lines, with a few exceptions. So many positives outside of that.

Playcalling met expectations. Especially with no interior consistent running game available. That slow developing outside run to the right in the first half wasn't my favorite.

You know, Jeff Banks gets his dick sucked so much, it's been tough to buy in. But the kickoff receiving team was mentally ready for the onsides. The first punt return was electric outside of the penalties. The second return where he put Worthy on the field alongside Jamison to defend better against the rugby punt which led to an 18 yard return - it's all a sign of really good preparation, leadership and tactical awareness. I don't know what to think about it. It's like we have signs of a great coaching staff.

I haven't seen a Texas defense be so consistent in stopping 3rd and short since...Muschamp? Louisiana was not a chump offense. It's only the first game, but really nice opener.

Skill position players look like a strength for sure. Loved seeing Whittington show. He's so strong. I believe we've only scratched the surface of what he's capable of.

Anyone heard anything about D'Shawn Jamison?

They don't look dominant, but that's okay. They looked really solid in all areas. Well prepared. Well coached, with room to improve. I'd say every area of the team at least met expectations, with the overall performance exceeding them considerably. This game showed a lot to build on. Bring on Arkansas.

churlish \CHUR-lish\ adjective. 1 : of, resembling, or characteristic of a churl : vulgar. 2 : marked by a lack of civility or graciousness : surly. 3 : difficult to work with or deal with : intractable.

You did it. You damn son of a bitch, you really did it!

Silver lining is that this could become a distraction. Can't be good for  locker room chemistry to have your ballyhooed true freshman - who has barely even practiced with the team - ink multi-million dollar NIL deals, when the players above him on the depth chart aren't getting the same kind of attention and $$.

I don't buy into this. Teammates aren't going to sour because another player is getting paid. Just gives them hope that they will get their own piece eventually.

So I guess there’s a signing bonus?  I mean what legitimate business is going to throw money for name image likeness before a player actually becomes a starter.  I mean businesses expect a nice ROI.  Even Arch Manning with the famous name doesn’t sell more cars from the lot until he wins some games and been around for a while.  I mean Ehlinger, Colt, Vince could maybe move some product in Austin but that effect diminishes greatly as the distance increases.

Ewers expecting to make bank is interesting.  It’s not like Ohio State current QB room is going to just bow down to the great mullet from Southlake.  He could very well not win the job and transfer to Utah.

So is it just understood that businesses are going to just pay a salary to everyone on the team?  Or some ridiculous NFT trading card that sells and proceeds go to player?

If top players are getting paid unequally which certainly seems like it would be so do you then give some of your pay to the o lineman so they protect your ass?  How does that affect the locker room dynamics if I know Bijan is making 200k and I got 1000 doing electronic cameos as his lineman.  Some issues to be seen perhaps.

Ewers not wanting to get hurt playing on Fridays for free and stepping up in level is a no brainer.  High school I’m sure is fucking awesome as the star QB but it’s still high school.  Not everyone peaks in high school.  Looking at you Uncle Rico.

I’d certainly love to see what these rookies are actually going to get.  People saying 6-7 figures I just don’t see it. League minimum NFL guys barely getting that and they are signed to contracts.  The college player is essentially a perpetual free agent in today’s transfer market.  Where’s the checks and balances on say Evan Stewart going to Miami.  Using his Instagram to collab on a  bunch of nonsense.  Then saying fuck it I’m going to USC, and then let’s swing by UT.  Players still got to be badass to get attention and keep it.  No ones going to keep paying attention to anyone not starting expect perhaps the constant backup QB that should be starting over the starter.

ROI? Schools have been paying players for decades and the only returns that they’re looking for are championships and bragging rights.

So recruiting style-wise over the last decade we went from:

Mack Brown:  Identified his targets early and hoped to have the recruiting class committed before their senior season started.  Got lazy.  Evaluations suffered.  Roster went to shit.

Charlie Strong:  Took the first 9 months of the cycle off and then crammed 12 months of recruiting into 3 months.  Signed some decent classes - but not at the level Texas was expected to sign.

Tom Herman:  Hit and miss with evaluations and his staff outside of a couple of guys were shit coaches and recruiters.  Signed top classes but roster management was bad (where are the OL?).  Carrington saved a lot of recruitments.  Herman was an asshole who wouldn't even acknowledge players in the hallways - but he did have enough personality to finish out some pretty good classes.

Early evaluations of Sark are that he is extremely laid back in his recruiting style.  Wants kids to take their time and isn't looking to pressure anyone to make a decision early.  Problem appears to be that the HC and staff haven't really pushed or prioritized the top guys enough.  At least one (Anderson) has 9.95'ers reporting that he felt more 'wanted' by other coaching staffs.  Sark and staff do appear to be quick with backup options when their main target goes elsewhere.  Did a decent job in the transfer portal filling needs.  Initial reports were that Sark's personality would be a big plus in recruiting.

We heard that Banks was a big time recruiter and closer - but that was with Saban as the Head Coach.  Does it matter what type of recruiter you are if the Head Coach can't match you?

Would replacing Harris necessarily solve the problem of Sark not being engaged enough or not pushing hard enough for early commitments?

Is the alcoholism a concern at all for parents/recruits?  I haven't seen any 9.95'ers report about it since around the time of the hire - is that because recruits and parents don't give a shit?

Is this going to be more of a Strong style of recruiting where they try to get things done at the end of the season?

Obviously these are all just early evaluations - and Sark is fighting against a decade of the worst Texas football ever where kids being recruited now have never seen Vince Young play except on youtube.

Will the move to the SEC make a big enough difference to get recruiting back to Mack or even Herman levels?

Sark might have a sordid past but based on his rehabilitation the guy has a pretty compelling story to sell. Look how I turned around my life, I’m the embodiment of second chances, I know what it is like to lose everything so this means even more to me now, etc.

I don’t really see the alcoholism as a negative. Most of the alcoholics I know that are in recovery are some of the most ambitious and determined people I’ve ever met.
