I don't believe Texas can win with lesser talent. We just don't have that underdog culture as an institution and I think it's impossible to develop that kind of culture at a big program like Texas. Baylors and Techs of the world can get a good coach in and win with lesser talents because they are used to be underdogs. At a big program like Texas, you have to recruit well to win. There are no two ways about it. Hoping that we would win first with lesser talent and then more talent would come is just kicking the can down the road.
Exactly. Anyone yelling "corch 'em up" is going to be sorely disappointed. The lack of urgency to close on some of these top guys is amazing.

At what level?
Our AD is great at fundraising, but is happy to sit back and not change the culture of the AD at Texas. See; Protect the Brand, Protect His Donations, Don't be Aggressive. He doesn't understand being an elite football program and what it takes. At a smaller level, our recruiting support staff is a horrible dumpster fire, and you can key that back to not pushing through Sark's first choice for the position, which is again on compliance (plonsky) which means it is yet again on CDC, who is always happy to take No for an answer until Hartzell has to get involved and cut up his dinner for him. Anyway, the support staff is fucking terrible. And unfortunately, there's little to no indication that Sark realizes this at all. But even if he does, you're still looking at a best case complete overhaul of his support staff after year 1, which not only isn't a good look, but is hardly a guarantee to fix anything, especially if we haven't fixed our fucking road blocks with compliance, see CDC. Throw in spinning our fucking wheels on the NIL stuff, which is literally to me is the most embarrassing development in the UT program in my lifetime and I don't know what to tell you, my man.
Urban Meyer got one thing absolutely right: Texas needs an aggressive football only Athletic Director that's somewhat autonomous to CDC and focused solely on motherfucking football. At least it makes sense why Urban didn't want anything to do with us.

We were leading on these guys before the move. Why would that now be a negative? This is about a staff unable to counter and close. It doesn’t matter why. But I’m actually hopeful for the season and their abilities to develop. So it’s bad but not the end of the world.
There are a lot of kids that either didn’t play or develop last year. A hard working staff can find a lot of great prospects. The question is whether this staff can find them. Who knows who is running that ship at this point. If they need to replace recruiting staff, they need to do it now.
I’m hoping Sark cuts the dead weight and doesn’t wait until it’s too late and he’s out of a job.

Sooooo….
At what point do we admit that there is a big ass recruiting problem right now?
Like, we as a board come to an agreement and stop nitpicking about details and just goddamned agree that something is definitely wrong with our attempts to get good football players to come play for our team.
It seems like every time people point out that “shit is currently fucked up” it turns into a debate, as if we all aren’t privy to the exact same buttfucking information about how the good football players don’t want to come here as of right now.
I feel like if we can admit that then our bullshitting will at least feel more productive as we brainstorm for ideas our staff should pursue, but definitely won’t.
Shhhhhh!!! Lemonandaturd may suspect you’re an aggy!

Who gives a shit, aggy.
Don’t get mad that some of us want this program to be great again. What’s going on is a problem and if you think NIL pamphlets being sent out on Twitter is a solution then get ready for 7-5, 8-4 seasons.

Well got dam you have it all figured out. Texas will never get another recruit worth a shit. We are so fucking far behind aggy. Shit, maybe we should just burn it all down, fire everyone and and hide from big bad Jimbo Sherill. He has plenty of aggy cash.
The only way you fix a problem is by first admitting there is a problem. I don't want to be the Michigan of the South.

aggy was not #4 last year. Fuck this we shit aggy, you got a frog in your pocket?
What the fuck do you think Jimbo is telling these guys? That they were actually the #5 team?
There is no reason we should be losing top talent to fucking college station. New coaching staff full of Bama's top assistants, moving to SEC in a year, flagship school, start immediately, AUSTIN, TX...
We are losing the bidding war. The great equalizer is cash. We are offering cameo opportunities while our competition is dropping thousands of dollars at these kids doorsteps.
Pathetic.

We'll enter the SEC with a roster talent wise comparable to Tennessee and the Mississippi schools. We can laugh at aggy and little Dumbo all we want, but the fact will be that they'll have a better roster whenever we do play them whenever that may be in the next few years. Maybe it'll take losing to them for someone to wake up. You can bet majority of the football board will be going bonkers with a loss to aggy wondering what happened and wanting to fire everybody when it all started here.
This. Bama will definitely have a more talented roster. I was banking on Texas having more talent than aggy but I just don't see that happening anymore.

Jimbo also destroyed FSU and the SEC outside of Alabama was average at best.
Good luck selling that to a bunch of 17-18 kids.

I'll probably regret saying this out loud, but is there any chance that maybe Jimbo is more highly thought of than Sark? I think some of you here are lawyers or salesmen right? It would be pretty easy to sell against Sark and Texas right now. I think Sark can turn things around, but he has to do it. Yes, we have to win on the field or this is all Charlie and Tom part 3.
I think you might be right. He won the MNC at FSU and he got A&M to #4 last year. He's got a lot to sell. Unfortunately we don't. We must win in order for recruits to buy in and jump on board. Saying "We're Texas" might resonate with a bunch of old alums but it fails to register with any high profile recruits.

And I get that. The point I was trying to make was that they're not "killing us in recruiting right now" as someone up thread put it. Our recruiting and theirs are pretty close right now,
Head in the sand. If you can't grasp that there is more momentum on their side then I don't know what to tell you.

Guess we can change the thread title to "Bust"

Its been barely 24 hours and we are about to get a commit in 9 minutes. I don't understand the constant emotional pendulum when its proven almost every year that Texas will get its guys. We don't need to be full of the virtue of patience, but we as a fanbase definitely need more of it than we currently have.
I guess I’m thinking that we will need the big guns to compete in the SEC. I was hoping this new staff would have a Georgia type recruiting effect and it hasn’t at all.

I doubt a 3 star is going to stop the meltdown.

I’m shocked that we have not been able to generate any momentum with a new head coach and the move to SEC.

IT has been in full meltdown mode since yesterday, and Nahlin said today (I assume half-jokingly) that it would be good if Brown picked Baylor because it would accelerate changes to Sark's recruiting model. Whether that meant only tactics/methodology or if he meant personnel as well is up to you.
IT doesn’t know shit.

Recruiting whiffs arent such a bad thing. This program and donor base need a wake up call. I never thought I'd see us in the SEC but here we are. As excited as I am, I know we are wayyyyyyy behind. I know some of you are already involved with NIL stuff and I think thats great, but it's my opinion that there's only one way to survive in the recruiting game, and it's to fight fire with even more fire. That's where my efforts will be placed.
Are you the promised one? The Messianic Bagman? The one that will make the ags weep and gnash their teeth?
