We probably need to hit up the portal for a starting top end LT this Winter anyway. If Goosby does what most of us expect him to do that guy is off to the first round of the NFL after this season. You going to trust Manning's blind side in his final season at Texas to Chatman? Brooks? Baker hasn't exactly wowed people so far on campus anyway but is more suited to RT. Not a lot there at LT to inspire confidence though Brooks was getting great reviews at one point from the staff iirc.
If this were a Banks 2.0 situation and either Turntine or Ojo were projectible day one starters then sure maybe you consider going way above market rate. That isn't how people view these two.
Bobby recently said if they were to re-rank our last class based on early returns, Brooks would be #1. I assume he'll start if Goosby leaves.
I'm not overly concerned if we miss on an expensive project like Ojo. Sucks we didn't get Lee though.

I'm pretty sure boosters are included in the 20.5 cap because they are expected to do the stuff with learfield and the AD. Boosters are weird and aren't really a third party AFAIK
Everything else is accurate. The boogeyman bag game is stupid, there are more teams that don't have to rely on outside money to make offers and now that has put a strain on people like Texas who didn't really have to compete at certain tiers. This is an overall good thing and healthy, Texas isn't and never has gotten every single recruit it wants. That's fine, this class is still elite.
Can we win at least one title before we start worrying about the health of the sport?

It has everything todo with NIL. Do you think that there are separate funds for roster retention and high school recruiting? The money directed towards Hill is going to reduce the funds that can be allocated towards recruiting a HS player. Schools that have a shitty roster are going to have an advantage in being able to fund their recruiting vs having to spend on retention.
"Max exodus" was used in reference to transfers, not early draft entrees. The point is that it's possible to have both an elite roster and elite recruiting assuming you have the funds and the willingness to use them.

Yes? OSU and Georgia both took heavy losses to the NFL draft. So far most of Texas’s draft success has come from the development guys or one year rentals that were cheap from an NIL standpoint. Banks and Worthy so far has been the only big dollar NIL player to leave Texas via the draft. There’s a reason basically every preseason prediction has both UGA and OSU behind Texas.
The implication was that they haven't had mass exoduses due to lack of NIL funding, which is true. Players leaving early for the NFL has very little to do with NIL, or lack thereof.
The sky isn't falling, but it looks like Sark and TPTB will have to reevaluate some things and adjust accordingly. They've done just that every cycle, and I expect them to do it again.

We can outbid nearly anyone. BUT we have a salary structure. It's why you see roster retention here. The Fausi recruitment is a great example. OU paid a lot. We weren't willing to blow up our roster dynamics for him, rightfully so.
So how did we get Terry? I'm genuinely curious. Do they make exceptions if they think someone is a can't miss prospect?

Everyone’s sleeping on Jerrick Gibson. He had fumbling issues as a freshman. It happens.
But if he fixes that…he’s gonna be a good one.
Not really relevant to '26 recruiting. He'll be a junior when they get to campus.

Finding that kind of player especially on the interior is rare. You're better off filling up with HS recruits.
Are you assuming Charles/Sharma/Terry (and 4+ DTs from this class) won't be ready to step up in 2027? If that's the case, the portal would be the solution, not another HS recruit.
And we just signed 5 from the portal. Doubtful they all hit, but the same can be said for HSers.
Again, I'm not against it if they all want in. I just have a hard time seeing it.

We would be better off hitting the portal for an immediate contributor if Watson and/or January leave early.

You certainly haven’t seen the classification chart and how we do need 5. So we aren’t filling in the portal again like we had to this year.
I have seen it. Assuming no attrition, we only lose Brevard and Hunter after next season, leaving 8 plus however many we sign this class. 5 would be a luxury, not a necessity.

I don't disagree.

Why? We need 5
I have a hard time seeing 5 DTs sticking. We might take them all if they want in, but we don't "need" 5 after backfilling through the portal.

Have to think one of our current DT commits will either look around or be encouraged to do so if we land 2 more. Not a bad problem to have I guess.

We’re going to line up him and Heze next to each other and alternate who runs routes and who stays in to block. Shit is going to be unstoppable.
In all seriousness, he looks much more like a TE than Kent.

Either Sark is actually 5'7 or Berrymon is taller than 6'1.5.

What exactly is stopping Texas from playing the bag game? We've established that paying players isn't morally wrong (quite the opposite, actually). Is it out of respect for the virtuous and ethical NCAA?

Fucking finally.
Okay now what do we do with burnt ends? Keep it going or pivot slightly?
Become bagmen.

Penn St will feel good about their year, but I'm not sure they really beat a good team - SMU and Boise St I guess although those teams helped out a lot.
Neither of those teams are close to NC caliber. This was the easiest path they'll ever have.

James Franklin just lost to the first legit team he faced in the playoffs? I'm stunned.

There’s nothing to rebut, son. There are CFB fans who understand what “blue bloods” means, and then there’s other people. If you want to continue to show your otherness and derail the thread, feel fee. Just assume my response to your post is:
“There are CFB fans who understand “blue bloods” and then there are….other people.”
Rebut this son:

Nebraska won their first in 1970. Minnesota had 7. To think your 2025 opinion will mean jack shit in 2075, when hardly anyone alive remembers Nebraska wining a title, is laughable hubris.

Yes, dumbfuck. Just like the Founding Fathers will still be the Founding Fathers in 50 years. And, 100 years. Again, you’ve proven you don’t know the meaning of the term, you don’t have to keep proving it. Have a good day.

Hey dipshit, you said "Teams dont become blue bloods and teams don’t lose the designation. The eight blue bloods are now and forever." You think your dumbass opinion of blue blood "designation" in 2025 will mean jack shit 50 years from now? 100 years from now?

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

Our roster is set for the next 2 years, assuming we keep everyone we want. In the meantime, the house settlement will either be challenged/overturned, or loopholes will be discovered. If it's the latter, I assume we'll partake.. otherwise, just shut it down and focus on olympic sports.
