  1. I think the casting off Fett is one of the main issues. He’s just a bad actor. They also wrote his whole story weirdly. This version of Fett has none of the presence or mystery of what we imagine of three original character. Plus he’s generally inept.

Basically Fennec Shand tells him what to do at every point and he just grimaces at her and then agrees. In my head, Fett was ruthlessly competent. He should have been battling demons of his past as he tries to go more legit but it feels like the character is just bouncing around without a plan and then waiting for Shand or Mando to tell him the plan. His character didn’t really develop or change at all once he left there Tuskens.

  2. Rodriguez is terrible. His action directing is just laughably bad. Seriously. It's awful and stilted and lacking any emotion. Give Bryce Dallas Howard more episodes. I literally can't understand how people think Rodriguez is good at this point. I'm no military strategist, but when you have two people who can fly and an armored personel carrier, I don't think the best strategy is to all be huddled together on the ground in a 10 foot radius. The huge strategic maneuver they accomplished was "someone should be on the roofs to snipe."

Also, when there are tanks roaming the streets and people being gunned down by automatic weapon fire, you decide to cut to three street merchants selling yams? Like, did they think they were going to sell yams to the spider tank?

It's probably more difficult and expensive to take Hamill's current voice and pitch it back down to his 1984 voice. The range of his voice has changed dramatically. It seemed obvious to me during the show that they used something similar to the AI that was used in the Anthony Bourdain documentary to have him speak after his death. It's not perfect but neither was the first fake Luke we got in season 2. But even that massively improved over a year.

The technology is moving fast too. In another year that tech will be better than it is now. Together with the better deep fake work on this last episode foretells some interesting times for actors ahead. We could conceivably add onto stories where the actors have aged out of the roles. We're already doing it to a degree with movies like The Irishman and some of the other youthing technology in Marvel movies and such.

I think what they should do with that respeech technology is do a similar Deep Fake type implementation where it "translates" a current actor's voice acting and overlays the synthesized voice on top of it to pick up intonation and pace.

I'm interested in the legal aspect of it.

I was listening to Katie Perry with my 4.5yo. The other morning. She was getting down and I thought it was cute so I sing along until “…skinny dipping in the dark….wait…menage a trois? FUCK. I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to this song…”

They played that song at the Father/Daughter Girl Scouts dance one year. I hadn’t paid attention to lyrics either until then.

There is time, but do you want to see that story told with cgi Luke or someone besides mark hamil playing the character?  I’m not sure I want to see that.

re Disney making all the money: Shang Chi did really well considering how poorly theatres were doing  (broke memorial weekend record?) Spider-Man still made a billion dollars despite people getting sick left and right. Theaters aren’t dead, and Disney will continue to make back on some combo of box office, $30 premium probably after 30 or 45 days that they don’t split with theaters, and monthly subscriptions as long as they continue to put out good entertaining shows.

There’s been a lot of talk about how much Sebastian Stan resembles young Mark Hammill. He really does and he’s already in the “family.

  6. The machines could have avoided all that trouble by just using cats instead of humans. They have a higher body temperature, they reproduce in much greater numbers, happily live in higher density and can be kept obedient with catnip rather than a massive supercomputer to run a constant simulation.

Why bother with humans at all?

    The Catrix.

The actor plays him well - he's so god damn charismatic, but so fucking evil.

Really? I don't find him menacing at all nor particularly charismatic. He just doesn't strike me as a guy who can rally people around a cause. Maybe it's just me. The speeches he's given on the show just seem like a guy yelling out his lines.

In case you don't have the time to spare, it's basically 8 straight minutes of Rueben running 50-99 yard touchdowns. A couple are on broken tackles, but largely he just runs through and around defenders, making them look silly with quick cuts, and then turning on the jets into the endzone.

Jeez. That film is nuts. What classification does he play in? It’s literally just a film of touchdowns.

Whatever you do. Don’t look up the value of it today lol.  I have some friends that bought a house in Torrance for 800K just to tear it down so they can build what they want haha

Man, I know. It was a lousy little house on a mediocre street (Oak Ave) in a great neighborhood in MB. If I could have held onto that place when we moved I would have. It was bought by our rich next door neighbor and torn down. It’s a basketball court now. I can’t complain too much, we still live in CA just in the East Bay. Our house up here has done well for us.

I was just literally laughing at the faux concern that if Riley bought a house on the beach in MB that he could lose as much as A MILLION DOLLARS in value on the house on a whim. Of course, that would be less than 10% of the value of the home, but A MILLION DOLLARS! If he buys on the upswing, the house will be worth more than $1mm than what he paid for it in a couple years, plus you get to stare at the ocean for the whole time you live there.

I'm too lazy to look up Lincoln's salary history or expenditures but the guy ain't hurting for money and he can absolutely be a HC somewhere for the next 25 years of his life, barring a horrible scandal.

I'll say this, there are a lot of people here in cAlifornia who make a lot less than Lincoln that will never leave.  And they are well aware that their dollar would go further anywhere else.

Also, what makes you think a house in Manhattan Beach would depreciate faster than a very likely custom home in Norman.  If he builds an 8 million dollar home here vs in Norman, which one would get sold faster?  There are a lot more millionaires out here and beach front property, or any California property is a finite resourse.

There are a lot of athletes that live out here and they don't all play for the teams out here. Tiny example, but DYK Odell Beckham and Anthony Davis had homes out here before they were traded to their respective teams.

Hahaha. We sold our house in Manhattan Beach 8 years ago when we moved. We sold for $1.3m. A house that was torn down and rebuilt across street from it on shitty side of the street (backing onto a tire store on Sepulveda) just sold for $5mm. That guy’s cracking me up with his concerns about LRs home appreciation “issues” he’ll experience in awful LA.

That Bama likes to come out, get up 21-0 by the end of the 1Q so they can dick around the rest of the game.

Well, Jimbo did mouth off earlier this year that would beat Bama’s ass. I wouldn’t be surprised if Saban let the team run it up a bit just to keep Jimbo in check.

Potentially. Overhead is low (we're not taking a cut currently) so the only driver for outside funding would be to accelerate the addition of players (i.e. to cover their signing bonuses). I do have one source for that but I'm open to talking about other options.

I had been thinking about doing this. Happy to share more details and it would be great to have another place to get feedback on designs and stuff. We have a discord for that currently but it's my understanding that some people have lives away from their computers.

I don't have 100 posts so I can't access the NIL talk forum. @immamac could you hook me up?

The contract can't extend beyond their participation in the program. So for us, when a guy leaves the program, we stop producing new NFTs of them, using them for marketing, and pay out any unpaid royalties. Peer-to-peer sales continue, but the contract is terminated. It would get unruly keeping up royalty payments for thousands of guys after a couple years anyways, but I do have some ideas for alternatives. That's something for the other thread.

You need any help on graphics and animation?

I really liked Cards quick release. No wind up, just lightening quick hands.

The third down conversion pass to bijan I never even saw him throw it. I had to rewind to see the pass happen. Love his release.

Same here. I actually thought was batted down at the line because it seems like it never traveled through the air.

This is common for boys with late in the school year birthdays. My son had an August birthday and did a gap year. It had nothing to do with sports but was more an academic and social decision.

Seems like it got a lot more popular after Gladwell’s book Outliers was written. It was all over the news at the time. The book addresses the evidence that kids who are older for their grade perform better at sports and academics That advantage follows them all the way through their development, even to the extent that most pro athletes (in hockey, I think) fell into that category.
