When those schools were added, the main incentive was getting Big 10 Network carriage in those states.  At the time, the Big 10 Network was able to get itself on any cable package in states that housed it's schools.  The SEC Network was set up the same way.  With the exception of Nebraska (who would always make sense in a "football interest" standpoint), the schools selected were selected primarily for their ability to get the networks on as many paid cable subscriptions as possible.

Now that people are ditching cable, there's less value in this model.  Adding schools in largely populated areas only makes sense if they have a lot of fans willing to pay to keep watching them.  Rutgers and Maryland don't meet this test.

There will always be a large interest, and therefore money, in college sports.  That's why Fox isn't worried about cord cutting.  But the idea that conference networks will be as lucrative as they once were, or that poaching schools from large population states is the way to maximize value for a conference that carries one seems to be dead.  The Big 10 Network isn't going anywhere, but the incentive to gobble up new states isn't what it was, which has made it easier for the Big 12 to compete financially, and as we've seen it's clearly in the middle of the P5 conferences.  Behind the SEC and B1G, but clearly ahead of the Pac 12 and ACC.  It does not have the same level of vulnerability that it did 8 years ago, and the change in the TV landscape is a big factor.

MD shouldn't have left, but when the money they were being flashed in front of them, hard to say no.  This last round of Realignment sucked.

The PAC 12 made a really stupid decision by deciding to start their own network - they have no partners and no leverage.  That's the main reason their network is failing miserably.

The B1G only has 49% ownership of the BTN, but Fox has 51% ownership and has just as much incentive as the B1G to see the network succeed.  The deal with Comcast will get done because Fox has the ability to blackout B1G games on FS1 if a carrier doesn't carry the BTN.  I believe the B1G has already been lining up some key games on FS1 to setup problems for Comcast if they do hold out past 8/31 (I think Michigan/Nebraska might have been announced as a FS1 game with this dispute in mind).  The fact that Fox can blackout high demand games on FS1 gives them a lot of leverage.  This was another major reason Fox paid a premium for the B1G Tier 1/2 rights, because they knew it gave them more leverage w/ the BTN (by controlling games on FS1).

"Cord cutters" won't have much of an impact on the model once streaming TV sorts itself out.  The fact is, every channel, and consumers, benefit from bundling to some degree.  The internet is going to make it so you can have a lot more choice in what bundles you want to pay for (like pairing Youtube TV w/ Philo, for instance).  The problem is that the cost for TV got to a point where people weren't wiling to pay for it anymore, and the internet has provided a great solution.  A lot of people have a problem paying $120 a month for TV, no one probably complains at $40-$50 a month, which is what I'm spending on Youtube TV now, and I'm still paying the BTN, just like I was w/ DirecTV.  I'm just not paying DirecTV for their equipment and overhead.

I pay $210 a month to Verizon Fios for the ultimate package (which includes the sporting, premium channels and yes the LHN) and quantum internet.  I just signed up for another two year contract because I was about to pay more with bundling and internet.  This a la cart shit can get out of hand .. doesn't help that I'm a boxing fan and have to keep showtime just for that plus the annual ppv or two.

so did he decide yet on saving the world or saving our o-line?

apparently from one of the practice reports, they are really impressed with his size and seems like he can run block pretty well now... all this while watching him in shorts.

Vegas sets Rockets at 54.5 wins. Seems low to me.

yep should be a lot of money placed on the over.  I don't understand how people can run away with the narrative that this team took a huge step back.  They act as if this team was healthy during the season.  CP3 was hurt, James was hurt, Ariza, Moute, Gordon and Ryan Anderson all missed stretches last season and still had 65 wins.

The real measuring stick with players like Trevor and Luc walking away will be in the postseason.  As far as the regular season goes, I expect this team to grab that one seed again.

Thing I will say is at least he is willing to play Freshmen early unlike Brown who would wait until after OU blowouts to play the better player.

Feels like that was the old guard of coaching.. I despised Bill Cowher for trotting out "proven vets" who ran 6.6 and continually got burned because a rookie or second year player was too green despite being more athletic and fast..Had Vrabel covering kicks for three seasons, yet kept Jason Gildon on the field flopping with his alligator arms play after play..

  7. Big 12 is fine, and I actually enjoy the early kickoffs since I live on the east coast.   I'm pretty confident that a Texas Tech/TCU game at noon gets better ratings than a VT/NC game here in VA at the same time.

imagine an offensive class with card, hornsby, evans, mookie, omerie, & demas. i think it's very possible. sam and this offense have to so drastic improvement this year to make it happen.

That would be a real championship contending type of class..  For fuck sake, let's get at least 9 wins, and another in a bowl game.

I know many of you are gonna get triggered, but as good as our DL class was last year,  OU's was better and this year, there is no comparision. Unless we flip Leal, which also seems unlikely.

your right..might as well concentrate on the 2020 class

We really dodged a bullet with this guy. Can't believe he would come out and support domestic violence like this.

Doesn't mean he supports DV, obviously he loves the school in general.  Guess all recruits who head to Cougar High must be BBW plumper hunters, right?

Lasted? It was picks from guys that follow each other and have zero sources beyond what recruits tell them. This board bashes ej constantly, was it suspended to get excited about his and roach’s cb?

Do you even Polynesian tie, homeboy?  It's been a breathe of fresh air in this thread.  Thinking of ordering one and wearing it at FedEx.  I should wear a Troy Polamalu wig and get some temporary Samoan tattoos that looks well on my golden brown skin../not racist
