I’ve gotta spend the weekend in Dallas for a kids swim meet. I’m completely out of touch on the BBQ scene there. Where would this crowd send me?

    1. Cattleack (if you can stand in a line, not open for dinner)

    2. Terry Blacks

    3. Pecan Lodge

    4. Slow Bone (Fried chicken and great sides; not open for dinner)

Is the Bodacious in Hallsville associated at all? I've been told by a couple of people it's gotten significantly better.

Bodacious Hallsville isn't a bad option at all and honestly now that Mobberly is closed it's definitely the best Bodacious location of all of them.   They do a good crawfish boudin and pork steaks.   The couple that runs it are great people also.

Been following him on your recommendation.  His brisket at Mobberly was excellent.  Looking forward to trying his food again soon.

Is it going to be a trailer?

Bryan is as good a dude as there is in the business.  They are going to set up on the north side of Longview at a new big gas station called Heritage at Green Top. 7486 US-259 Longview, TX 75605

Should be opened up pretty soon.

2 months ago? not like they have the excuse of "probably not THAT Daniel Vaughn"

that said, this is my favorite response in the whole thread

I ate here a couple weeks ago and wasn't impressed at all.  Place is priced the same as more well known joints; didn't think the food had any smokiness to it.  Most of my friends said it was okay, but didn't like the price they paid compared to others.  FWIW Slow Bone BBQ (not on Top 50) should be in any Dallas Top 5 list and way above Blu's BBQ.  Had lunch there again today.

  5. Take the ferry from Manhatten over to Staten Island takes you right past the Statue of LIberty and gives you plenty of photo ops an kids will enjoy the boat ride.

Go walk around Wall Street, etc.

We had passes on the open air bus, you can hop on and off or just ride it around which will give you a good layout of the city and then you can figure out what you wanna go back and see.

I would echo the suggestion for 30 Rock; we got up there later in the day and watched the sun set and the city light up. Was one of the highlights of the trip.

Honestly it's hard to go wrong in NYC in my opinion especially if you have never been.

A couple of years ago my dad brought me some Bodacious Mobberly BBQ. Was 4 hours old by the time he got here with it. Was still amazing.

I went there shortly after that, was there at the open. Everything was real good but not wow.

A couple of days ago got there about 2:30 got some of the last brisket. OMG incredible. The bark was perfect, just some of the best brisket ever. They also had a Bucks BBQ sticker on the door, the market of a quality place?

    Place is legit.

  7. Going to San Antonio next weekend.  Plan on having lunch at Louie Muellers on Thursday; lunch at 2M in San Antonio on Friday then when I come back home on Sunday stopping in Rockdale at Brett's Backyard BBQ. Has anyone been to Brett's??

Hit up Lockhart's in Plano on Sunday.  Meh...

Man, I really wanted to like it.  I did.  I need a staple near where I live besides Hutchins in Frisco and Hard 8's in the The Colony.  Cool place.  Got their around 6pm.  Their "lean" brisket was dry.  Real dry.  Fatty was better.  Good flavor.  Good bark.  Sausage, which the kids like, was bland (regular, not jalapeno).  Pork ribs were dry also.  Dry and chewy.  So maybe everything had been sitting around, but it was very underwhelming.  Best thing I had was the 10% Belgium triple Freaky Deaky.

So Pecan Lodge is still my favorite until I can get around to Cattleacks for lunch.

10 Fifty in Richardson off 75 has improved past Lockhart in Plano in my opinion.  Wasn't once that way, but my last few meals at each have been better at 10 Fifty.

  9. Cooked for 60 folks on Sunday.  Smoked two 12 briskets, I think they ate one.  Smoked 3 eight lb pork butts, I would say they ate one.  10 pounds of bologna, they ate 5 lbs.  (Oklahoma folks like their smoked bologna), Smoked 12 racks of St. Louis ribs, they ate 9 racks.    This will help me figure out estimations for next time.  That's the most people I have cooked for at one time.  All in all turned out pretty decent; brisket is still a struggle. Pulled at 200 degrees but still not happy with the results.  I may try and smoke one without temp probes next time.
