I feel like we haven't heard much about Arch making great throws. I, for one, don't care how the ball moves, as long as it moves, but typically a QB who can't complete passes on the regular is going to get exposed. From the scrimmage where Arch outplayed Malik, all we heard about is him having one long run. If he's really pushing Murphy, there must be more development of his passing attack this camp than 9.95ers have been told.

    First depth chart:

    1. Ewers 2. Murphy OR Manning

  2. I will give Sark lots of credit for his pre-season press conferences. He's more open than most head coaches and his answers show he's thought through some of the team/org/mental issues and he's not just doing something because that's how he was taught under LaVell Edwards or Norm Chow. Seems like that's a rare trait among football coaches.

It sounds like Moore and Niblett showed up ready to go. I'm used to us having like 13 WRs on the roster and about four of them being good special teams players. We have the opposite this year. Eight on scholarship, I think, and they're all gonna play.

    Fixed it.

IDK, that play at 1:39 where he ran down field 60 yards doesn't give off 'I don't like football' vibes to me

Yeah, anytime you see a high school DL run down field like that it is a massive positive. I suppose he could be a guy that likes playing but not the rest of it. By all accounts, he's an intelligent guy and many of those types hate HS practices because you have to keep going over the same things until the dumbest kid finally gets it. With a good environment and coaching, I have no concerns.

  5. He will start against the Bengals on Friday.

    From the AJC:

    Quote

Robinson is set to start when the Falcons (1-0) host the Bengals (0-1) in the exhibition home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

He has had a strong training camp while learning the intricacies of several positions in the Falcons’ offense. Robinson, along with 35 other players, were held out of the exhibition opener at Miami.

“They all need to play at some point,” Falcons coach Arthur Smith said. “You’re trying to play the long game, too. He’s going to play. We’re not going to go crazy. We just need the reps.”

Don’t expect a full load for Robinson or the rest of the starters.

“We need to get out our bread and butter and concepts in there and see his tracks,” Smith said. “We are not going to sit there and show everything, but we need to execute well.”

    Just the basics for Robinson.

“So, he can feel the speed, there’s a little bit more speed than he’s felt out there in practice,” Smith said. “He’ll get tackled, and we’ll get ready to go for Sept. 10 (the regular-season opener against Carolina).”

  6. I don’t understand all the laughing at the Beavers. Yeah, they are small-time market share and not AAU, but they have won legit NCAA baseball championships and have regularly had entertaining football and basketball. Their arch rival is Oregon, but it’s not an aggy kind of delusion and nobody else hates them. Just a decent little state school doing the best they can and they end up getting screwed big time.

Yes, I am sure enforcement is going to be rabid and tyrannical for a sports bar in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Nobody cares about the PAC in Forest Grove. They follow the hometown Pacific University Boxers, a charter member of the Northwest Conference.

  8. Two outstanding bios of Oppenheimer. This is from 2006 and was the main source for the movie:

American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer: Bird, Kai, Sherwin, Martin J.: 9780375726262: Amazon.com: Books

This one is from 2014 and is more science-y while wrestling with Oppenheimer's complexities and contradictions.

Robert Oppenheimer: A Life Inside the Center,' by Ray Monk - The New York Times
