A transam cost $6699 in 1979.  Obviously 1979 dollars are different than 2023 dollars, but man that’s not a lot for one of the premier recruits in that class.

By the way, with the 400 V8 in it, it only generated 220 hp. My current F150 has double that.

If Dickerson wanted to get a replica today, it’d set him back around 50k.

    That'd be about $28,000 in today's dollars.

  2. "All 30 coaches saw immediately that Elko was the perfect choice and, without prompting, recommended him highly. Stoops was even so taken with the potential for Aggieland that he was going to fly to College Station and beg the school to hire Elko, but he turned around when they told him it was already a done deal. Whoop!"

How long before that becomes the myth?

See I'd be scared if Elko was in front of me in the buffet line

I'd be more fearful if he was behind me. Getting body-checked into the potato bar by a guy hell-bent on getting to the gravy station is no fun.

I can’t find a compelling reason Elko is better than Stoops. Other than, he spent two years there under a guy they hated so much, they spent $70M+ just so he’d go away.

Elko has been there before so he won't be freaked out by the weirdness.

Even better is that it decoupled the cars in mid-air so that the fanbase had difficulty figuring out exactly where to place anger/blame. It was a little like a fireworks show and not knowing where to look for the most entertainment.

    The fireworks show:

  6. Quote

“He liked confirmation,” a former A&M assistant said. “Sometimes the coaches would just say whatever they thought he wanted to hear because they’d be burned out in meetings. … You knew he was gonna do whatever he wanted to do anyways.”

Said the former A&M staffer, “If you told him ‘no,’ or something he didn’t want to hear, he would talk s— about you, like a little kid or something.”

He is who we thought he was--a prickly, petulant little fuck.

  7. Here are the men's collegiate Polo teams that compete for the US Polo Association championship: Babson, Brown, Cornell, Harvard, Skidmore, Yale, Kentucky, UVA, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Georgetown, Morehouse, Colorado State, OK State, SMU, aggy, North Texas, Texas Tech, Cal Poly-Obispo, Stanford, Grossmont, Montana State, Oregon State.

Texas has a men's Polo team but we don't take it that seriously.

I'm having a difficult time figuring out where you would drive to from Oxford to find civilization in Mississippi.

That's an impossibility for any number of reasons. However, you can drive north and reach Memphis in a little over an hour.

You answered your question. In Texas, like it or not, the HS coaches have a lot of sway and area college coaches are smart enough to understand this. Sark gets it. Tom Hermann did not.

I don't know jack about portal stuff but it seems to me that while HS coaches may have less to do with the initial recruiting these days, they are important in the way potential portal messages are conveyed and arrangements made.
