Bring a Gator fan, I’ve got a lot of hate built up against Georgia, LSU, and Bama.

To me the other teams are on a lower tier than us and I really don’t care or hate them too much.

I just can’t wait to watch a physical tough Texas football game where our players aren’t going to be thrown out for blowing up a WR screen. Can’t wait to watch a game that doesn’t have 35 official reviews and little meetings and bull shit calls.

We get a whole season of last years Alabama game. I’m looking forward to legit college football.

I thought he was kind of as advertised. Speed was always there, the question was would he develop to be a complete RB. If you get chalkboard blocking, he is the RB I want with the ball. Like to see both Baxter and Blue show more between the tackles. Run harder. He had 2-3 fumbles with like 60-70 carries. That isn’t going work. In the last 4 games of the season Blue had a higher YPC rating once (Tech),  compared to Baxter

Dude, this is an awful take even for you.

It’s just one of several boxes to check or not check.

When Texas was in the same conference, the answer to the question, “Why does Texas play home and away every year with Baylor, TCU, TT, Rice, UH and SMU?” was “Because Texas has to”.

That answer is gone. Now, the question is “Why would Texas schedule any of those schools? What does Texas get out of it?”

    I’m struggling to think of a reason…

Not every B12 school is that way. I always enjoyed the Ok State game, and even WVU was a fun one that I wouldn't mind seeing again. But I will immediately be pissed to see Houston, Baylor, TCU, or K State on our schedule ever again. There is just zero upside to a game with those teams. To a lesser degree Tech, but they have shown their ass so much over the last 3 years I would hope it doesn't happen for at least 20 years.

It would probably have Arky and LSU too.

Or Kansas/Kansas State depending on which way you are drawing lines. Maybe we can engage in gerrymandering and cut out TCU, Baylor, Houston, and SMU. I am sure they would understand.

Football should have broken off at least 20 years ago, or at least when the questions arose about UCLA having to send its volleyball team to New Jersey for conference matches. It’s like nobody thought that maybe the money making sport that can justify travel costs should be different. Make a billion dollars with Oregon v. Penn State in football, whatever, but don’t make the diving team do that just because. Let everything else play geographically. You would think that two schools from the Pacific Coast joining the Atlantic Coast Conference would finally make people step back and figure out a better way, but nope. Just mind numbingly stupid.

I really want to like this proposal, but at the same time I hate it just simply for the regionality aspect. I really don't want to have gone to all of the trouble of the SEC move and all associated ass pain just to wind back up in a "Texas/Oklahoma region" with the same group of teams we just left plus SMU and aggy.

The conference model as we know it has become so god damn stupid.

Blow up conferences, centralize leadership under a single commissioner, and do it on geographical basis just like this model is proposing.  I realize that's no fun to the "you can't play in our treehouse" side of college sports, but this will return the game to what made it popular in the first place while also giving us the legitimate, proven champion we've wanted out of the playoff system.  You play schools close by during the regular season, and if you win, you meet other powers in games that actually matter towards a universally recognized championship.

Cook has looked good and on track for plenty of playing time. Any of these guys can always go elsewhere, but if he sticks to it, he’s going to be a starter and a regular target.

This. I said earlier this week that Cook and Wingo are two different players. The guys who make splash plays like Wingo are always going to get the press, but the guy who can consistently give you 8 catches for 90 yards will win you games. Cook is the latter.

The cross posting is going to be a lot better soon when we can cross link threads natively. Good to see a mix of engagement across both communities though I think their separate but tightly integrated is working pretty well.

They just want to keep our stank off of them. I completely understand.

Guys that hang out in the walled gardens like OB, 247, and IT are not exposed to a great deal of alternative, dissenting, original or engaging dialogue. That's my thought, at least.

I literally had a higher hit rate on targets to commitments, neverminding player reviews and evaluations, than EJ Holland or Jeff Howe while I was a poster on 247. I would get regularly mobbed by groups of posters when I'd challenge a take from either guy, and Howe and I got along fine and he didn't mind the discussion.

If I just posted a thread with my own thoughts on it, people would climb over themselves to tell me I was a moron and a know-nothing and to leave the boards. This wasn't me ranting, this was me doing stuff like "why isn't Mack Brown recruiting Houston?" and "taking one OL in single class is going to be a problem" and "Shawn Watson being hired is an early indicator of trouble in the Strong regime". Then I'd post my thoughts around those subjects, cite data and history, and then people would go apeshit.

That's different than a site like this one where, sure, there are a lot of disagreements and petty arguments, and I no doubt participate gleefully, but you don't see people shrieking and then running to immamac or blacklab to complain and ask for me to banned. At least not daily. It's a very foreign dynamic compared to over in those forums.

I will have you know sir that Charlie Strong literally combed the desert for the finest OC in the land. 247 told me so.

I didnt like the pick up to start with, but I have to assume the coaches saw some role for him. I dont buy the culture angle, Texas is far beyond that at this point. I am going to hope he can fill a limited role that is utilized vs power running teams and short yardage. If that isnt the case, then it is completely mystery as to why they brought him in.

I don't think there is any real mystery. We lost a high quality veteran to the NFL, we had Anthony Hill, a guy who has never seemed to put it all together in Gbenda, and a couple of redshirt freshmen/sophs with promise but not much experience. They wanted some veteran leadership in the room, and potentially some Gbenda insurance.

I think the Keilan role refers to Keilan's skills on special teams and not necessarily offense.

In part, but he was also used as a space player and a guy they tried to get out on the edge. He was really good in the pony package as the second back. That is what he used to bust big plays versus Ok State in the B12 title game.

There are many variables to this. I understand your view but don’t necessarily agree. I won’t bore/annoy you with 40 times for S that I’ve thrown out in the past several months, but it’s clear that even the NFL doesn’t hold athletic traits as the end all be all. For a S processing speed is critical. I don’t know how you measure that.

As fud referenced, if Mukuba had been fulfilling his potential, maybe he’s off to the NFL already. I do believe everyone matures differently so that’s not a knock on him. It’s very possible that he takes it to another level. Taafe logged significant snaps on a solid defense and top 5 team. You don’t do that particularly as an undersized, walk on without some traits albeit not measured with a stopwatch or measuring tape.

From reading others, it sounds as though Mukuba has some versatility. There’s probably some merit to getting Barron some run at CB. So drop Mukuba to the slot. For me an equal consideration is that Brooks needs to elevate his game or he logs more bench time. I’d bet if the opponent runs 4/5 wide then Mukuba is in.

My guess is we’ll rotate the back end quite a bit with different personnel groupings. Hell, I’d like to see a 6th DB on the field occasionally too.

Mukuba was played at slot last year after having a more promising run at Safety, where he projects in the NFL. He was less effective as a slot and I have heard that he is being used at Safety primarily so far.

Ah, yes, the "freshness of a new coaching staff."  Yep, that's going to make the difference.

Can't blame Looch, though.  He's just selling what the Rubes want to buy.

I don't see how anyone could be bullish on their portal class. It is comprised of a bunch of sun belt and FCS guys to replace 4 and 5 stars. But it is low hanging fruit at this time of year to be able to point to the portal because nobody has seen them play yet. Member when Nebraska got all lathered up about Casey Thompson because he threw one nice pass in their spring game? I member. There were podcasts and articles ad nauseum about how much of a game changer he was going to be based on literally one play.

Why was this expected? Because Wiltfong put in a pick? The Texas staff wasn’t expecting it.

USC is doing the same LSU frontrunning nonsense and showing all of these guys their first looks on NIL. Let’s see how it all works out during this cycle.

I think he actually brought in some quality defensive coaches this cycle who know how to recruit. Similar to Texas, it isn't hard to be successful once you graduate from the land of gross incompetence. It wouldn't surprise me to see USC have a good class.

So I just spent way too much time going through his highlights from this past year. I am not sure this one is anything to be too broken up about if he does go elsewhere. He has nice vision and is slippery in the hole to pick up extra YAC, but both Clark and Gibson are similar players in terms of skillset. He doesn't jump off the screen as being elite.
