  1. I stand by my asterisk

“*Regarding going back in time and giving Mock more snaps, keep in mind this is predicated on having a functional offensive coordinator who would have had VY and Mock in the same functioning offense from 2002-2005.”

Good teams pillaged Davis’ offense because he could not consistently punish teams throughout the game. It’s why a decent college QB Mock looked horrific against decent teams. And, why most of our big plays in the passing game were off-schedule for VY and (especially) Colt McCoy.

  2. need one?  i guess not.  but does it help the show be more entertaining?  i think it does.  especially considering every big baddie has had one, and nobody enjoyed doing her evil like cersei.  jaime had one of the great arcs of this show, and a fascinating character study for 8 seasons.  now they get a "poetic" death?
also this is a two-part letdown (depending obviously on how they handle next week).
my prediction was that euron would die this week, and cersei next week.  if she's truly dead, then we get one episode to hash out jon vs dany, which is a brand new rivalry (yeah, sansa never trusted her, blah blah whatever).  it's new, and i don't really care about it like i did "who would kill cersei."
also, i mentioned it earlier, but is the iron throne still even intact?  if this show really doesn't end with someone sitting on it, then what was the point?

Needed a satisfying death? Not necessarily. Confrontation and conflict? A better one, yes. Arya getting herself captured, having Cersei snear at her. Arya vowing revenge.
Arya timing her assassination during the invasion, only to have to choose between saving herself or killing Cersei. Cersei escapes, finds Jamie, same ending, same Arya white horse ending. How hard was that?
  3. She has to roast John now. His retreat is from her. She has proven nothing will stop her from the throne and he is the last legit threat. Nope. Can’t live.
Head on a stick like uncle outside the gates, Ayra/Sansa crying hidden in the crowd.

Any army that didnt retreat would surely have died. Oh, the unsullied and dathroki had activated their beacons as they intermingled with the citizens who were indiscriminately being torched. Sure.

  4. I think that cersei's death was more in keeping with the show than any of the crap we saw in the previous four episodes. Just like nobody predicted how Ned would die or the events of the Red Wedding, everybody was assuming that she would have some horrible death with Justice being served. In the end, it was still pretty horrible for her to watch everything she had worked so hard for crumble around her and to die along with her incestuous love of her life and her unborn child. A quick beheading or stabbing wouldn't have allowed her to see all of her plans get burned up in the matter of about a half hour.

The Lannister-Stark conflict ended with Walter Frey’s assassination. Pitiful. Cersei has barely interacted with any of her enemies in years. While the ultimate death may have been keeping, the lack of conflict is one reason why this is more like Transformers-Walking Dead than GOT.

We got to see a Walking Dead fight with the Hound and the Mountain zombie, who shared 2-3 scenes ever. And Jaimie and Euron. Who cares?

At the end of the day, this is a pacing issue where we got to see 3 episodes of zombie hunt, and 2 episodes each of the Battle of KL and WF, and now only one episode of Stark/Tygareon.

  5. Yeah. I’ve seen a lot of “Drogon was ineffectual against the Scorpion but now somehow destroys them” in a few narratives about the show. I think the strategy changed. She came in with the sun at her back fast and then hit the deck. They hurried their shot and she destroyed them during the reload.

When they took out dragon #2 it was a surprised. It’s not a huge leap of faith that she came with a strategy to counter their ability.

I was expecting a hidden scorpion in the tower to take a shot when the dragon got close but that didn’t happen.

There were about 100 ships. She didn’t have the sun to her back for all of them.

And why even bother with the ships? They were harmless and only increased the odds that she’d get Drogon killed.

But it was very fortuitous that all the scorpions were located at the perimeter of the city.

I will give them this: they watched their Bands of Brothers and learned how to take out a trench.
  6. It's just really bad storytelling. And anticlimactic.
There literally wasn't one thrilling moment in the entire episode.

Yeah, once you saw the fleet and ballistas fail, then you see the Golden Army standing outside the gates (bold strategy), the battle was over. You then just have to see how crazy Daenarys is going to go. I was waiting for more and never got it.

I just got new character osmosis for Arya, who experienced firsthand the wrath of Daenerys. Nevermind she’s a ninja and knew the back way out. We got 10 minutes of her running and crying? Why? So she turns her anger at the Lannisters for killing her parents to redemption by stopping the Mad Queen.

the first time around -  they had the element of surprise and she took off running. in shock of losing the second dragon
second time around - everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. when she started taking out ships, prepping / loading / positioning / aiming that weapon (and ship) becomes very difficult

    sure
  8. Putting all else aside, watching that dragon destroy the tower was quality television. And watching the roof cave in on Cersei was one of the more satisfying moments in TV history.

You ever see The Godfather? Captain McCluskey and Sollazzo didnt die in a car wreck while being chased. They got wacked by a family member, face to face.

The remaining Starks had both their parents killed gruesomely and bitterly. It motivated their actions. Hardly a m’eh the last couple of seasons. Then Arya gets one lecture and turns tail.

The Stark-Lannister conflict seems to have whimpered out.

And Cersei going out like a punk is bullshit. In the Battle of Blackwater Bay she was about to Jim Jones the whole place. She’s a cold-hearted bitch. She’s just watching out the window the whole episode and crying. Was weak.
  9. This is the Special Counsel's way of saying "there's almost certainly more we were prevented from discovering due to constant obstruction from the subjects of the investigation."  It's not remotely close to an exoneration.
As for whether the Dems should impeach, if the evidence of obstruction by Trump that the report provides isn't sufficient to justify impeachment, nothing is.  The Dems aren't holding back because they're not sure whether multiple instances of obstruction of justice justifies impeachment, they're holding back because they're not sure how impeachment will play politically and that terrifies them.

  10. What episode were you watching? He destroyed the entirety of his character arc and tried like hell to save Cersei before the roof caved in around them.

Its easier to subvert expectations by subverting character arcs.

Varys the Cunning turns into Varys the Clumsy.

Arya the cold-hearted NK-killer who can slip in and out of anywhere, turns into a crying girl seeing the carnage and will now try to save the day. Cersei, smersie. I found a white horse. Now Deanaryis is the bad guy.

Cersei wants to live! We missed the scenes where Clarence, her guardian angel, shows her what things would be like if she had never been born.

It was an enjoyable episode if you turn off your brain and enjoy the Hound vs the Mountain. It’s like, who cares? The Mountain is a zombie. Awesome, he’s about to make the Hounds eyes explode!

  11. 2003 saw 2 of the greatest physical specimens ever to wear UT football gear with Roy's last year VY's first. There was some tension as to who the leader of team was  - but I challenge anyone to name a more athletic QB-WR pairing in college football history.

Chance Mock was a better passer than VY in 2003. Had we had a functioning offense, we could have leveraged our best player Roy Williams with Mock playing a Chris Leak-type role splitting time w/ VY. A good OC would have been able to use all our weapons and brought VY along with special packages*. Cedric Benson was the fucking running back and OU beat the shit out of us (We scored 13 points against OU in two years with Ced and VY in the backfield).

Our offense was basically a conservative base of random conservative pass plays and run plays that relied upon out-athleting teams. Back in 2003, it was very effective most of the time. We were good at avoiding negative plays (except against good teams).

When Washington State blitzed the shit out of us in the Holiday Bowl, we had no answers. Complete shit show.

*Regarding going back in time and giving Mock more snaps, keep in mind this is predicated on having a functional offensive coordinator who would have had VY and Mock in the same functioning offense from 2002-2005.

    He's not wrong though

He’s delusional. They drew the world champs and were the 4 seed. They are who they are and lost where they were supposed to have lost.

His culture is to acquire assets and put the corporate stamp on it. This is an old club, acquired outside of the draft that has leveraged it’s future. They’re not developing players.

Their offense is centered around isolation basketball that great teams can handle. Their superstar player is flawed, worn down. Their support players are past their primes or never had one.

Fertitta and Morey have done as much as they’ve could, but they can only influence the games and mettle of NBA veterans, who they always try to acquire on the cheap.

I can only imagine what PJ Tucker thought when he read this quote. Dude balled out but could be on the Rockets scrap-heap at any time, because a hallmark of Fertitta’s culture is to win by acquisition.

  13. I made it through, but that was rough. Never knew the Russians all had Brit accents.

Would you have them speaking Russian with English subtitles or are you just used to Russians speaking with Russian accents in English for some reason?

This is an English-language production. Why wouldn’t they being speaking their language perfectly amongst each other?
