  1. It's rather amazing what they've done to the depth chart at DT since the end of last season. Basically, we had Alex January coming off a promising true freshman year and nothing else. Now they have a legit three deep of guys with different skillsets they can mix and match. That would have been impossible in the pre-portal days.
  2. I've thought about creating a separate thread that was comprised only of a comprehensive list of nut punches and fuck ups over the years so that anytime someone brings something like it up, you could just link the thread and not have rehash / relive the specific trauma and thread derail. But it would be too fucking depressing to do it.
  3. I would go with La Fonda on 410 behind the Magic Time Machine (i.e., not the La Fonda on N. Main). And the walk over to the Mine Shaft for a drink after.
  4. I know Sacramento gets about the least amount of pub in the league, but do you even watch basketball? Fox is one of the best 25ish players in the league. I can't imagine how much playing next to Wemby is going to open up his game.
  5. First, it's not the super max, it's the max. Huge difference. And if you will notice, every all star level player (and some non all stars) is getting the max these days. You see the comparisons to Luka's salary over the next three years. Well, when Luka comes up in 3 years, the Lakers are going to have pay him something like $83 million a year. I promise you Fox's next contract (if he's even still on the team) will look much differently. Secondly, Harper is 19 years old and has never played a minute of an NBA game. I doubt he's one of the best 25-30 players in the league right off the bat like Fox is, and there's almost zero chance he's the better player right now. The Spurs are trying to compete for the playoffs right now. Also, they just locked up Fox for the absolute prime years of his career (age 28-32) and he has no option in year 4. If Harper turns out to be that much better than him and Fox becomes disposable, he's still a tradeable asset. And again, it doesn't blow their cap because the rest of their core is on rookie deals. Worst case is that they end up in the tax one season when Harper's extension kicks in but that's four years down the road. With regard to Clutch... you also need to consider what the Spurs had to give up to get Fox, which was hardly anything for an all star point guard in his prime. Look what Orlando gave up for Bane. Look what the Knicks gave up for Bridges. You gotta give Clutch some credit for the way they played their hand in Sacramento. The Spurs gave back a highly protected Chicago FRP that was likely never to convey. They gave up an even more protected Charlotte FRP that ended up converting into two seconds. They gave up their own 2027 pick which should be in the 20's if Wemby can stay healthy. They gave up the Minnesota unprotected in 2031. They didn't even have to give Sac their own FRP pick back that they fleeced them out of to facilitate the Derozan/Barnes trade. And they got to unload Zach Collins and his shitty contract on top of that. Would I have liked Fox to sign for less? Sure, but this is just the way business is done in the NBA today. I don't get the criticism at all. And like I said, I promise this extension was baked into the deal in the beginning when they made the trade. Now, I don't know that they make the trade in hindsight if they knew they were going to luck into the number 2 pick in the draft, but so what? Hindsight is 20/20. That they got Harper is gravy and yet another asset.
  6. Like I said in the spurs thread, the Fox extension was assuredly negotiated before they made the trade. It’s a lot easier to swallow while Wemby, Castle and Harper are on rookie contracts. The Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell contracts are probably worse deals if you want to criticize the Spurs front office.
  7. I’m not surprised at all. This was negotiated back when they made the trade, I assure you. I like it that Fox is on a little bit of a different timeline than the rest of the team. This is the time to give a vet big money while you have Wemby and Castle and Harper on rookie deals. Next contract for Fox is going to be a different deal. If he’s still around, that is.
  8. Bryant doing damage in these practice sessions. And that's a nice use of the off arm btw.
  9. Maybe we've moved beyond all the historical rat poison media hype with Sark, but holy shit I've never seen so much Kool Aid flowing. Especially when they haven't even practiced in pads and started hitting yet. How the hell can you judge anything about the offensive or defensive lines right now?
  10. I think it shows how much he's matured that there was no gun play involved.
  11. I always figured Terry for the inside. Is he just not big enough, yet?
  12. Did PK tell the media he would see them in December too? That's the last we will hear from that guy until the playoffs.
  13. Anybody else slightly concerned about DT? We've gotten very spoiled there the last three years. I know there are a lot of new bodies and highly rated transfers to throw at the position and the future looks really bright, but I can't imagine we won't see a little step back there. The only guy we've actually seen play is January, and he's a true sophomore.
  14. I think Venables will cobble together a good defense. And I think their QB transfer will be pretty good. But that offensive line and lack of talent at the skill positions is going to make it difficult for them. They are going to have win ugly rock fights and hope they win the turnover battles and special teams. Going to need lots of Sooner magic. I think they are going to be better than we think, generally. The schedule that looked so brutal last year doesn't seem as bad this go around. Or maybe I still have PTSD from the Sam Bradford seems like he sucks thread from god knows how many years ago. I'm still trying to figure out how they waxed Bama 24-3 and ran for 257 yards on them.
  15. I think the move is to let him commit to OU now, then flip him at the last minute leaving OU empty handed with no replacement.
  16. They must have some special kind of math in Georgia.
  17. I’m not saying this list is bad but Tre Wisner is first team RB for the entire conference when he’s not even first team RB for his own team.
  18. Needs more Mr. Nimbus.
  19. This thread title is so living up to its name, in the funniest most ironic way possible. Suck it Georgia. What comes around goes around.
  20. You have to watch summer league with a discerning eye for what translates and what doesn’t. IQ translates. Hustle, effort and having a knack for being at the right place at the right time translates. Athleticism only translates if you don’t have it. In other words, there are some great athletes at summer league who can’t play in the league. Shooting doesn’t necessarily translate. The looks you get in summer league are so much better than the real league. That said, Harper, Bryant and I’m pretty sure Jones-Garcia can play in the league. I’m not as sold on Minix but he’s at least worth keeping around on a two way. Filipowski knocking down threes like that… yeah for his size if he’s really that accurate there’s definitely a NBA future for him. There’s no way to judge where he is defensively though against that competition. Nor is there any way to judge how effective he can be down low on offense but a stretch five like that for sure has decent career ahead of him if he can play close to league average defense. Also, that was one of the most fun summer league games I can remember. Entertaining as hell.
  21. Yeah... he needs one. They did it for Jonathon Simmons and Gary Neal after a few summer league breakout games. Unless he's got some character issues, I don't see why they wouldn't add him either on the minimum or as a two way. They have the roster spots. He may have played his way out of a two way, actually.
  22. I'm not as high on him as you are, but I do think he's going to be a special player. I don't see either of those two in him. Lebron was a physical freak of nature since he was like 12 years old. Bird was an offensive machine with impeccable instincts. Flagg is one of those guys where the ball just somehow always magically finds him. I don't know how much of an offensive mismatch he's going to be, but I do know that he is going to impact the game pretty much everywhere. John Havlicek was the best comp I could come up with - a guy who does everything and impacts winning everywhere. Dallas is going to be an interesting rebuild. Before the inexplicable Doncic disaster, I thought Nico Harrison did an unbelievable job remaking that roster. They had a bad cap situation, very little draft capital, and he shrewdly managed to put together a team that made it to the finals. Other than the Grant Williams deal (that he quickly rectified), he made one great move after another. He took a relatively terrible roster that was a poor fit around Luka and completely remade it. I thought he was one of the best GM's in the league until he temporarily went insane.
  23. I kinda liked Wesley but he was going to get buried after they drafted Harper. They needed another big and they needed three point shooting and Olynyk gives them both. They can also move his contract if they want to do something bigger later in the season. Really nice move by the spurs. Three roster spots still open and they have some money to play with. I don’t think they’re done. Adding another solid vet who can shoot wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
  24. And the inability to re-sign Karl Anthony Townes. You forgot that you gave that up in the trade, too, although you did get Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. I still wonder what kind of assets they could have put around KAT and Edwards with more picks and more cap flexibility.
