  1. All in all, this was a horribly disappointing series. These two teams were supposed to be screaming up and down the court drilling threes and moving the ball and instead we got a brick fest full of iso ball, terrible shot selection and turnovers.

Neither team deserved to win this series. The Warriors.... my God, I understand taking open or at least near open threes early in the shot clock when you have shooters like Durant and Curry and Thompson. But I don't care how great KD is or how many times he actually makes them, taking a well contested three, three feet behind the line, with 18 seconds on the clock without ever passing the ball is horrible fucking basketball. It's one thing to take that shot with less than 5 seconds on the clock  because of course, you have to shoot. The rest of the time its selfish stupid hero ball. How he doesn't know better is beyond me. The Warriors were infinitely more entertaining to watch before he joined them. And I also get they've been prone to flurries of turnovers in the past, but I've seen crisper play in the Summer League. How they come out in Game 7 and play like that is just mind boggling.

And the Rockets.... they play a horrible brand of basketball. So much one on one after picking a guy out on defense to isolate. And the Warriors do it to, they are just less obvious about it. But you know, there are other ways to skin a cat. Maybe slip a screen every now and then. Maybe run a shooter off a couple of stagger screens and when they switch, pin down the switcher for a post up. I get that D'Antoni is going to play his way but holy shit it's painful to watch. And you can't chalk missing 27 threes in a row to fatigue or great defense or the pressure of a game 7 or just having bad luck or whatever. It's clearly the basketball Gods punishing them for their sins. Live by the jumpshot, die by the jumpshot. RIP 2018 Houston Rockets.

Strange game Professor Falken. The only winning move is not to play.

  3. Credit to the Rockets. They have gutted out these last two games and played defense like I've never seen a D'Antoni coached team play. I didn't think they had it in them, especially after they got decimated in game 3 and then came out flat to start game 4. Much respect.

Also, Eric Gordon has been amazing -- I thought his aggression early in Game 4 changed the entire series and then he hits clutch shot after clutch shot after clutch shot. He's been huge in every one of the wins.

That said, not having Iguodala is killing the Warriors. Houston is just hunting down whatever big is playing in his place. He's also another guy who makes plays for his teammates on the offensive end, to a certain extent more so than even Durant or Thompson considering how few touches he gets. Their bench was short to begin with but without Iguodala they end up playing a d league scrub in crunch time of the WCF. Salary cap FTW.

Even though I'm not a big fan of his, losing Chris Paul for the series would be a shame. That would be about 4 years in a row that an injury to a star player deprived us of seeing the best teams in basketball go at each other at full strength.

I haven't watched any Spurs game, so excuse the ignorance.  Is Dejounte Murray a better defender than Rubio, Klay, or CP3?  Not that they are more deserving but I just need to gauge his defensive level compared to players that I know.

I dunno. Honestly, I'm not sure he's worthy of being second team all defense. I think the thing that stands out for him is his uncanny rebounding from the point guard position.

And whoever gave Dwight Howard a vote on any all-NBA team should have his voting privileges revoked immediately.

  5. Lebron is a basketball chameleon. He could blend in anywhere. He can co-exist with anybody on a basketball court.

That was a weird game last night. The Celtics went really cold in the fourth and Cleveland couldn't capitalize. Clarkson had those two wide open threes back to back that if either of them go in, the complexion of the game changes drastically. I'm pretty sure we're going to see a game 7 and it should be fascinating. Hopefully it's going to come down to the wire and we will get to see Lebron at his best and also see how the young Celtics react to pressure.

  6. First they came for the Whataburger voice guy, I did not speak out because I was not the Whataburger voice guy.

Then they came for the world's most interesting man, and I did not speak out because I was not the world's most interesting man.

Then they came for Larry Culpepper, and I gave thanks because those commercials were insufferable. RIP. Good riddance.

So tonight we will see the motivated, tough, defensive minded Rockets? or will we see the Rockets that know they have zero shot to win the series and believe that narrative so they check out and quit?

Either way, you are going to find out what this team is made of tonight.

The only possibly reason for this is if one is a fan of one of the legions of NBA centers that Hakeem made his bitch during his years in the league.  Quiet, soft spoken, he played intelligently with both power and finesse.  It's been a long damn time since there was a guy in the league who could compare with Hakeem.

He isn't anywhere on my hate list, but let's not forget he faked an injury as a negotiation ploy to get a new contract. And based on that alone, I would compare him to Kawhi Leonard.

  9. It was great. I thought a few of the jokes fell flat in the beginning and it dragged just slightly at first, but overall it's at least as good if not better than the first one.

Id probably take a waiver on Porter over Luka if Im Sac. I dont trust euro guards, especially if they draw comparisons to Hedo Turkoglu and Toni Kukoc on NBAdraft.net

I was on record at scattybevo.com that I thought Doncic would be a star. I'm usually fairly skeptical of the foreign players but I was on board with Porzingis and I'm on board with Luka. The kid can really, really play.  He's 6'8" with ridiculous range, great handles, fantastic vision and he's unselfish. He's the type of player who makes the game easier for everybody else on the court.

The only thing he has in common with those guys is that he's a Euro. Niether Hedo or Kukoc could handle the ball like Doncic. Hedo had really good vision but Doncic is leaps and bounds ahead of him at creating offense. If I were to make a comparison, it would be to a non-cracked out Lloyd Daniels. Seriously, sort of.

He's already fucking proven himself.  Offer him the super max, if he accepts then you meet and smooth everything over.  If he rejects it, trade him.

I would love to negotiate with some of you people in business.

And I would love to negotiate with you. The Spurs have all the leverage here. Kawhi's family is apparently trying to maximize his earnings. He's already left millions on the table with Nike and he isn't making that money up if he signs a free agent contract anywhere other than San Antonio after next season. Only the Spurs can offer him the super max. And, unless I'm mistaken, if the Spurs don't offer it this summer then he has to come back next year and re-qualify for it which would mean making an all-nba team or being league MVP or defensive player of the year. So why would they commit that money not knowing if he's going to play? If he comes back and he qualifies for the supermax, then they will offer it to him. If he can't go, then they will have paid him $39 million for two seasons of not playing.

The U.S. Department of Education recently posted figures on football revenue for the nation’s athletic departments for the 2016-2017 fiscal year (July 2016 to June 2017).

    Quote

Given the fact that Sumlin was considered a dead man walking even before A&M athletic director Scott Woodward indicated in May 2017 that Sumlin had to do better or else, the lack of excitement towards football had a negative impact not just on that sport’s revenues but those of the department as a whole.

This data isn't even from Sumlin's last year, it is from his next to last year -- a full season before their AD called him out. Their numbers for this past season were probably even worse.

  13. Houston played great last night. Gordon was out of his mind. Great game from him.

I still think the Warriors are too good to lose this series but they got a taste last night of just how dangerous Houston can be. They can't go out there and do that careless turnover thing that they do and get away with it against a team as explosive as the Rockets. They also take some terrible shots early in the shot clock. I understand that it's just how they play and they make a lot of them, but last night Curry and Thompson were a combined 10/30 from the field and 3/12 from three. That just isn't happening again in this series, especially not in Oakland. All those missed shots combined with the turnovers get Houston out in transition and then they are so dangerous.

That said, the two biggest impact items from game 2 are injuries to Curry and Paul. I don't know how injured Curry is or if people are just making excuses for his poor play, but Chris Paul was noticeably limping out there. I can't believe it isn't a bigger topic of discussion (or I'm oblivious to it being a big topic), especially given his history of injury.

Crap I wanted bagley. Mavs have to have the worst lottery luck history wise.

Wolves have 1 first overall pick, and have never moved up higher than they were slated to pick out of like 23 attempts

And they also took Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn in the same draft instead of Steph Curry. No fucking wonder they were in the lottery 40  years in a row.

I generally agree but lets not pretend as if every neighborhood inside the loop is a paradise sans the ones you mentioned.   And a lot of those homes are old and tiny and out of a lot peoples price range.   There are some pretty rough areas right outside all of those hoods you mentioned.  There is still some character around.  Drive through castle hills sans the nazi cops and you'd get every bit of feel of AH and its cheaper for non-school person because of the affiliated middle and high school but then you just go to a magnet school like ISA which is on the same campus.  Problem solved.

Not to be a stickler, but Castle Hills (or at least the best parts of it) are inside 410. You're right, though, it's a great neighborhood with really cool older homes.

  16. A few more thoughts about the game:

    1. I thought MDA's in-game interview was interesting in that the Rockets had given up 87 points through three quarters and they asked him a fairly generic question about how the game was going and his answer had to do with getting better shots or scoring more or something to that effect.  Dude, your team gave up almost 90 before the fourth quarter started. You may want to consider paying attention to the defensive side of the court. But if he hasn't learned by now, he's never going to learn. Guy is a brilliant at getting the most out of his offensive weapons, but damn he is stubborn.

    2. GS switching everything really stifled Houston's offense. They started picking out mismatches but the entire offense just bogged down after that and it's everybody sit around and watch Harden or Paul go one on one against a big or Curry while the clock runs down. There was one out of bounds play they ran where people were cutting and moving and they got an open shot out of it. They need more movement because their role players aren't getting involved otherwise. They have to find them some easy shots.

    3. I didn't think the Warriors played particularly well. They were too reliant on KD isolations and too much one on one basketball. It didn't really matter because Durant was so good but they are much more devastating when they are moving the ball better. Curry doesn't get as involved when they play like that and he didn't really put his stamp on the game, other than a couple of really nice driving layups late. Thompson took 15 threes. They can't let him have that many shots. They were lucky he didn't make more of them or that game really turns into a laugher.

    4. I hate the league right now with GS being this good. Everybody knew it was going to happen when Durant went there and big shock.... it happened. Nobody else has a chance.

  17. That went about the way that I thought it would.

Houston isn't nearly disciplined enough on defense. They can't outscore this team. They are going to have to get stops. Truth be told, the Warriors took a lot of bad shots early in the clock and made things easy for them at times. But that's sort of what they do. And the Rocket's  offense is too iso reliant. I know that's how they do things, but man... so much dancing around and jacking up shots at the end of the clock. Get some fucking ball movement going.

I know the Houston fans are hypersensitive about this series, and clearly there's a long way to go in this series, but there's no shame in losing Golden State. They are just that good.
