Yeah it freaking froze that night in 2009. In early September.
The day was fine and the people were cool, but once that wind got going I was regretting not hauling around a jacket.Â

I’m predicting this to be bama’s only loss of the year. I think they get us back in the CFP
Hypothesizing a world in which Texas doesn’t win it all, I find this outcome acceptable, if now unlikely.Â

This right here. Claims have been made that Nick is bringing "bully ball" this year, which soprta implies we won't see much in the way of passing. The DL and LB group looks like a strength for us, so I think the game will be decided by whether or not Bama (not necessarily Milroe) can pass. If not, I like our chances.
I think I’d be in favor of seeing some bully ball directed at Sweat and his guys. I think they might, too.Â
Texas is not lacking in the secondary. That’s a good point that Milroe might not be the finisher, though.Â

Fuck the elevation. Â Is Wyoming gotdam undefeated in Laramie?
Tech has better depth and coaching allegedly. Â WTF have they been doing the last 9 months?
I’ve personally seen them lose in Laramie but it was both more frustrating and colder than I would’ve liked.Â

I don’t really understand the calls for an OC anyway. Sark is renowned for his abilities as a OC. You don’t lean into his weakness by taking that away. You lean into his strength by featuring that and hiring whatever support you need on the game day management side.Yeah. I don’t see why that would be especially controversial.Â

2022 Bama game was lost by our D?
Yeah, you coulds say that it was. You can argue it was the refs - I wouldn't dispute that a lot. You can argue it was Ewers' injury - I wouldn't dispute that a lot, either.
The fact is, though, the offense handed our D a 2-point lead with a minute and a half to go, and Bama on their own 25. Get a stop, we win. But no, they give up two 20+ plays, and Bama doesn't miss their FG.
Complain about using "lost" to describe what they did... or didn't do, to be fair. It's like the 2008 Tech game, where our current Safeties coach had a tipped pass hit him right in the hands, and dropped it. He could have won the game, but he didn't. Being behind 19-0 before we really got going, and outscoring Tech 33-13 the rest of the way, and giving them the ball with that same minute and a half of time left, all we had to do was get a stop... but we didn't. Many Shaggies opined that Gideon lost the game, and at least one of the arguments was that other DBs lost because they couldn't tackle Crabtree inside our five just moments later, and the DBs were blamed for that. But they needed to hold him up without tackling and let the clock run out, because Tech had a timeout and coulda-woulda used it, kicked the XP-distance FG and won anyway.
Giving the D against Bama the same treatment: they could have won the game, but they didn't. They played a great game, they held Bama to their lowest total of the year. But when the chips were down, they couldn't do it.
Did the D lose the game? They had the opportunity to win, and they didn't. Call it what you like.
Â
YOU said the D was responsible for the loss. Then YOU said it was the O’s failure to convert in red zone. You.

In on page one, taking a stance so when I come back and laugh at this later I don’t get negged by a charmin soft little bitch that also happens to be a narcissist. Texas just needs to keep this game close, milroe runs like a fast fullback and that scares me to death based off history. I’d love to win in Tuscaloosa but it doesn’t seem likely.Â
I feel like Texas is fast enough now to contend with a fullback, even a fast one. Let’s see if Milroe can be effective passing against Texas’ defense. I don’t think he will be.Â
If the OL can make Alabama play the run honestly and not let them get too much pressure without sacrificing coverage, that should be enough.
Protect the ball, don’t give up or set up cheap scores, win, come back to “Texas won despite Sarkisian posts,” and get ready for Wyoming.Â

Oh man, I cannot wait for Oregon to come in and just beat the soul out of Tech. Â
Jarret Johnson of 247 Sports begs to differ: “I really don't know how good of a team Oregon is after its opening game shellacking of sacrificial lamb Portland State. Sure, the Ducks are talented on paper, coming off s strong season, but how will they perform on the road in a packed Jones Stadium against an angry Red Raider squad? I still think it's a coin toss game, though I believe the Ducks are more talented overall on paper.”
I presume he means a two-sided coin.Â

Same. I'm in wait and see mode, one game in this season is too small of a sample size for drawing conclusions.
The trajectory needs to continue to be upward. I think it will be. Rosters aren’t built in a day. Or a year. Even with the portal.Â

Bama loss, yes, I say was on the D.
Today: “You saw the game last year. We lost our QB a quarter of the way in, and still knocked them on their ass. We lost scoreboard because we couldn't convert TDs in red zone.”
Which is it, guy?

Exactly, but do we really want a young up and coming OC to come in and install whatever offense/terminology they use at their current school? There's no question Sark is one of the best playcallers in CFB when he has players that can execute what he calls, and I think he has that this year. I'm willing to be patient and see how this season plays out without overreacting to our first game.
Here's the drawback with OC's that aren't the head coach...the successful ones don't last more than a couple seasons before they get lured away to become HFC at some lower tier program. This leads to things like BoB ball at Bama last year, not to mention adding a degree of difficulty recruiting offensive players with a revolving door of OC's. Bama may be the lone exception to the last part because of Saban.Personally, I want Sarkisian calling plays. If it turns out the he can’t do that and game day management, hire or assign someone who can. I’m not yet convinced he can’t, but some who can trace every failure back to him or his doing both are convinced he can’t.Â

Not when both teams point and laugh at Tech afterwards.Â

Just now, ousux said:12 minutes ago, Doc Daneeka said:Maybe. What’s he achieved as OC elsewhere? If we’re going to put OC in quotes, it really doesn’t address the concerns people in that camp have expressed, imo.Â
OC in the sense he runs Sark's playbook and Sark will still have final approval of each call and can change it at any point in time. Having said that, not sure if that will really free up Sark for whatever we think he's neglecting, but it's something to try at least.
Yeah, imo, that’s Sarkisian as OC with extra steps.Â

Milwee already knows the offense and how Sark does things, seems like a natural progression to promote him to "OC" (running Sark's offense of course) and hire someone else to QB whisper.
Maybe. What’s he achieved as OC elsewhere? If we’re going to put OC in quotes, it really doesn’t address the concerns people in that camp have expressed, imo.Â

Disdisagree. This is a - or THE - defining game. It's also true for the season, but we're talking a game, here.
Lose this, and I think his trajectory starts to resemble the aggy rollercoaster. Maybe not, but he'll have to win out to regain thr high ground.Â
The fact that we won the fight last year, although losing the scoreboard, raises expectations.
Win on the road against a #3 team that would be favored at home against any team not named Georgia, and maybe even then, or this resembles the Aggie rollercoaster… sounds very level headed and not unreasonable at all.Â

This right here. Rice had an actual 4th down play design. I know this cause they ran it at least three times and converted at least twice, on the exact same play out of the exact same formation. Bunch formation, qb under-center, three backs behind him. Worked for Tom Brady - should work for us. Â
Rice was 1 of 2 on 4th down.Â

Imagine having our stable of backs and Oline and getting this cute with a 4th and 1 play call.Â
I don’t know that having two guys who could possibly make a block on an off side defender and having both fail to do so counts as “cute,” though.Â

I'll stop beating the dead horse as well, but if Mitchell is lined up out wide that defender is out of the play by alignment and nobody has to even worry about someone missing a block.

Narrator: It wasn't so why continue to blame and point him out when it was quite literally Helm blowing his assignment.
Where did I blame him once, let alone continue to do so? Be specific. Quote me blaming him.Â

How can you possibly look at those screenshots and see Helm doing absolutely nothing and still blame Mitchell for not making an impossible block on a guy who shot out of a cannon as soon as ball was snapped.
I fucking specifically said multiple times I don’t know that it was Mitchell’s block to make, so it takes a special level of density to say I’m blaming him for it.Â

Just before snap
Â
Should have been assignments:
Â
Gap is show immediately and you can see Mitchell gets a should on him but there is no way he could possibly get in front of him due to alignment of the defender.
Â
There is no reason gunner helm should be double teaming this linebacker. The play should be a 1 on 1 with the CB with mitchell working to the safety.
Â
Â
Â
...
I don’t buy the conclusion that Mitchell isn’t quick enough to beat the guy to a spot to slow him down, which is all that was necessary, but since I don’t know that it was even his responsibility to do it in the first place, I think that horse has been sufficiently beaten.Â

Holy fuck, time truly is a flat circle jerk.
We've now reached the Sark-era equivalent of "Strong should focus on recruiting and the DC role, get a de-facto HC assistant to handle the rest."
Â
It’s the other side of the “Sarkisian should focus on recruiting and the HC role and get an OC to handle the offense.” One difference is that Strong couldn’t even manage the HC part of game day.
Sarkisian’s strength is his offense, imo. I’d prefer he be the one running it. Other people may feel differently.Â

Yeah, but every play works on the chalkboard if everyone makes their block.  What separates good coaches from the Shawn Watson’s and GD’s of the world is minimizing how things can go wrong.  Like, maybe your WR screen shouldn’t rely on an OT blocking the CB before the pass gets there.
I don’t remember the specifics of the situation — did Texas sub or just go with on-field personnel so Rice couldn’t sub, for example — but, again, even if that’s Mitchell’s block he’s quick enough to slow the guy down and if it’s Helm’s, well, design wasn’t the issue there.Â

You didn’t say “both.” You said three of the four losses were on the defense, including Alabama. Until you blamed the offense for not converting in the red zone.Â
