Fuck em all.  I’d be out of Twitter the moment that contract shit hit my mailbox.  You’re laying off half the company under the guise of cost savings / leaning, and now I have to work endlessly to pick up the slack.  Fuck.  That.

This is something I stress to people regularly, especially the people I work with. You have one shot at life. Do not waste it endlessly pursuing money. Get out and live life. If you work for someone like Musk and can get a job that realizes you are a person with a life outside of work that is far more important then go work for that company instead.

Could it be that Elmo is actually trying to run off all employees who do have a choice? Thereby leaving him with a slavelike workforce whose lives in America are contingent on Twitter-based work visas? I mean, could the man possibly be such an authoritarian dick as to exploit foreign workers like that?

Eric Berger, a guy who runs a blog called Space City Weather, and who is based in said Space City, should consider what entity iefort was that earned Houston that name before he goes stanning for Musk, especially in direct comparison to NASA.

Elon has totally lived off the government teat. He’s done it well enough that I’d imagine he and his companies are viewed as important assets by the DoD and the government.

Kinda pathetic heist. The coins have value mainly because they are ancient Celtic pieces. As if the thieves would get that or even be able to sell them intact. The gold, if melted down, might be worth $250,000 in an honest market, which they will not see. These goobs will take a pretty steep haircut selling to fences.

Suppose they get $125,000. How many people split that loot? Comes pretty close to the commandment of "Never steal anything worth less than a year's salary." Especially if they get brilliant and destroy historical artifacts.

Maybe they know a rich goblin with no morals.

That happens on Spanish television, like all the time.

Ex is a psycho but she would pull some good pranks on our son. A longass time ago, when we still watched Simpsons reruns, kindergartener junior MaC left the room for some reason and ex hit the SAP button on the remote. He was wondering WTF and she said “Didn’t you hear? The mayor changed Houston’s language to Spanish today. Permanently.”

At first it looked like he was going to cry. And then he raged the fuck out.

People dunked on Dusty for never winning a world series yet here's Buck with ZERO playoff series wins in 21 years.

Showalter was a dick to me when I went in the Nashville Sounds’ clubhouse in 1979. I was nine years old, looking for autographs. And he flat out told me no and glared at me like Mean Joe Greene did to that kid in the beginning of that Coke commercial, only Showalter did not suddenly soften and toss me his game worn jersey.

Tl;dr Buck Showalter was a dick to me 45 years ago and probably should be banned for life like Pete Rose.

I mean, dude was about 30 and a .280-hitting 1b/DH with warning track power at best sitting there big-timing little kids.

And haha that Sounds team had two future MVPs in Mattingly and Willie McGee, neither of whom were dicks.

As for Buck, his name should be xxxxAlter because he never made the Show, not for the Yanks or anyone else. And he’s from a Florida panhandle shithole that isn’t even on the beach.

    Tl;dr II: Showalter ain’t shit.

He got margin called.  Dudes as rich as he is don't get margin called.  They just move the debt to somebody else who happily takes it. That tells you exactly what banks think about him.

Musk is a new version of pre-politics Trump. The Donald was not a real Big Apple property mogul but instead the avatar for same  — a name and image capable of reeling in gullible investors and customers.

Musk is the nerdy high tech version, but he is rapidly and irrevocably immolating in a way Trump never did. And so there will be no coming back from this the way Trump managed to dig out of what seemed like his reputation’s tomb back around 1990. Once Elon is dunzo he will stay that way, and that day is coming soon.

  6. I hated Rose as a player on teams that were rivals of and better than the Astros, and some “casual fans,” or “idiots” as I prefer to think of them, overrate his resume tremendously. (These are the people who think he was the best player of all time.)

No he was not. He was overrated.

The positives: He was an incredible singles hitter and define top-of-the-order pest.

That’s about it for his plus qualities as a ball player, those and an ability to play defense adequately at third, first and corner outfield.

And to string together good but almost never great seasons for a long time. IIRC per WAR he was never the MVP of his own team in any given year.

Granted he spent so many of his peak years as a teammate of guys like Bench, F. Robinson, and Morgan, all of whom were on a while other tier of greatness, but also some others like Vada Pinson and George Foster who had monster years while playing with Rose. Throw in the other key cogs in the Big Red Machine like Perez, Griffey and Concepcion and Rose’s inability to be the best in any season is understandable.

What makes people remember him as better than he was was his flamboyantly gritty style that made old school sportswriters involuntarily touch themselves but that many of his fellow players thought was show offy.

I think it was Mantle who dubbed him “Charlie Hustle” and it was not meant as a compliment. It was sarcastic, similar to how journalists will dub an overzealous, suck-up colleague as “Johnny Deadline.”

For a guy whose rep hinged on being a team player, he selfishly clung to a job with whoever would take him to not produce at the plate and play a shitty first base for seven years as he chased Cobb’s record.

So he’s much closer to Lenny Dykstra than the GOAT. And that extends beyond the diamond, but at least Dykstra never got caught betting on baseball.  And that is the one sin you just can’t commit.

So while I hate Curt Schilling and believe the Legend of the Bloody Sock is a ridiculous myth to burnish a HoF career with, I believe he amassed stats worthy of the Hall and my distaste for him as a person should not interfere with my thinking on the subject. Same goes for many another asshole who did not bet on baseball.

Not just flying. I ran with the bulls in Pamplona multiple times. Went back with the wife 20 years later and had no interest. I decided the crowds were much larger now and it would be too dangerous because of the people (not the bulls).

Well, yeah. Should have just said 6 occupants.

I knew that’s what you meant but everyone is saying crew…Saw that on the news too.

I might have boarded that bomber in a tarmac in NW Houston a decade or so back. My daughter and I and some of her cousins got to take a quick tour and I asked my self if I’d like to fly I’m her and decided no, no I wouldn’t.

Seems like the older I get the more of a chickenshit I become about flying. Walking through it was sort of cool but it was cramped and hot as fuck that day.

I never had it confirmed, but i had heard at least 8 dead. 6 crew in the big bomber, and two in the smaller fighter.

Doubt that was all crew in the big bomber — you don’t need gunners and a bombardier etc…Probably guests of the crew living out a dream.

The truly elite Texas HS recruits are all winding up out-of-state. It double sucks because it weakens our team and you have to see all these guys we whiffed on and once would have had absolutely ripping shit up for other teams.

  13. I’ve already begun preparing my anus for tonight, There is just no way they will allow us to spoil the undefeated season of a loyal Big 12 member. Mainly just interested in seeing how they try not to be incredibly obvious.

  14. Oh good grief. It’s reasonably funny and these kind of shirts go at least back to my time on the 40 when somebody posted up on the Drag and made a made a mint hawking “OU Sucks But A&M Swallows.” Or “blows,” can’t remember which.

On the other hand they ran about $10 and their creator did not sully the sacrosanct bounds of Surly with tawdry commercialism.

Is this the same type of fucked up committee that put Harold Baines in the hall?

No that was the Chicago South Side Lil’ Sluggers Card Collectors Club Committee. I hear Ron Kittle and Rich Dotson are this year’s locks.

As for the real task at hand: Bonds, Clemens, Palmeiro. I can see all of these guys plus Sweet Lou going in eventually, with Mattingly the least deserving. There are a shitload of guys you could say “What if he hadn’t gotten hurt” about who did not have a cool nickname and play for the Yankees.

Dear God I hope this is not the moment we look back on in a few years and say “That is where it all started to go to shit” but for numerous reasons already cited here, I am not a huge fan of this deal, not even a little bit.

So, you don’t really like Walmart?

Though I’m not really a fan of even the newest and biggest Walmarts, tge stores themselves are not inherently depressing, and the clientele varies with the locations — there’s a pretty wide gulf between the old, dingy, and cramped Walmart in West Columbia and the spacious new one in the Houston Heights. Even so they both fall in the “Things that I Don’t Enjoy” box.

Local officials have always been quick to praise Mack for his assistance to the community. Something tells me that Mack will get little attention from the Dems in power now.

mack swung for the fences with Mealer and struck out. I assume they wheeled Dave Ward back to the memory care center as well.

Ol’ Dave and MAGA Mack and other olds were pissed when she rightly went after CrimeStoppers of Houston for becoming a GQP cutout and bloated salaries for the CEO.

Yet another aspect of the Chris’s idiotic Mealer endorsement: they’d recently done some great reporting in CSoH only to blow it off months later

Is this parody or is Dykstra really offering her the D?

He was on Mark Maron a few years ago, claiming to be clean and sober but audibly high as fuck on pills. Maron even said so at one point.

Oh and Dykstra said he was servicing rich old women for cash. And they probably have the best prescriptions too. I mean, it was almost implied he was trolling hospices for dates.

But surviving a focused and concerted challenge just made Hidalgo stronger.

In her most recent ad — the one where she talks about growing up in Colombia— she’d finally gotten rid of all traces of that girly whininess tone she’d lapse into when (usually unfairly) attacked. She didn’t sound like she trying too hard to be butch or tuff or whatever; it came across as very natural.

I'm interested to see if Mealer will want to continue in politics. Texas GOP loves themselves a tough-talking rich white woman who lies to scare you.

Especially if she has a Mezkin-looking maiden name for the yard signs. Same name also proves her rich white backers are most def not racist
