  1. Yeah, seems like if one of the wing tips catches a little more (or less) lift, the resulting torsional flex would rip that plane in half.

I'm obviously wrong but, damn, it doesn't pass the eye test as something that should work.

That center wing section must be solid admantium.

Had a similar thought at first glance, as well. Every other twin-boom design I've seen features a shared horizontal stabilizer (think P-38).

I’d enjoy getting drunk with him. I picture him telling some pretty good stories.

He's pretty approachable, from what I heard.

Buddy at a newspaper I used to work at many years ago was out drinking when a colleague called him up and told him to get over to ____ ASAP. Buddy shows up and, lo and behold, it's Switzer. They throw back a few and buddy works up the nerve to ask for an autograph. Switzer grabs a napkin and writes,

    Quote

    To Lance,

    Fuck you!

    Barry Switzer

Buddy kept the napkin as a souvenir and was always happy to show it off and retell the story. Seemed plausible.

Texas should make civil asset forfeiture a state crime and authorize the Texas Rangers to arrest any Federal official that breaks the law

No need to arrest or prosecute. Just take from them everything they have without proof or due process and see how they like it.

In all seriousness, CAF is an unconstitutional blight on our legal system and yet another example that most people do not give a shit about injustice as long as it does not directly affect them.

I was stunned by how quickly I was back in the saddle. Rode much stronger than I expected, and was able to hammer the downhills better than last year.

Strange thing, my speed is still pretty good, but my hill climbing is, of course, horribad.  It may be that staying off the short climbs and corresponding descents and drops is letting me just book it a little more than usual.

One thing I've observed over the 14 seasons I've been riding singletrack is there's always some carryover of skill or technique from year to year. Even in the springs when I'm overweight and underfit (like now), I find I can still tackle technical challenges a little better than I have under similar conditions in the past. And that's encouraging. #aggymoralvictory

(Hey, when the entirety of one's splits are in the red, one needs all the positive reinforcement one can get!)

Idaho update: original forecasts for today called for a mix of rain and snow, yet it's been dry and sunny all day, so I took off on my hardtail for another 3-hour tour. Distance, elevation, and speed were comparable to Monday's ride, but it wasn't quite as taxing. After spending three of the past four days on pavement, it was a pleasure to be on dirt.

Here's a pic from as high as conditions allowed me to climb--this is the same trail shown a few days ago, but about a half-mile further up.
