There's a couple of long running realignment threads on the Georgia Tech Scout board and Florida State has been complaining and making threats for years and years. If they ever end up in the Big Ten or SEC they will start immediately complaining that Ohio State or Georgia is making more and threaten to move to another conference. It's who they are and what they do. They have been wronged and they will hold their breath until they get what they want.
Always the victim.

Seems like the best solution for all involved is just to close up shop.
Go ahead and turn the fake classroom stadium into a real classroom.

I had no idea you had to pay extra for it.
Never watched a game and figured it was included the same way Amazon has some NFL games.
Never really looked any further into it. Looks like it's an additional $13/month.

Who out there would buy Apple TV just to watch the Pac? I wouldn't.
$7 a month isn't a bad deal.
Something tells me the standalone ESPN streaming thing is gonna be $30+

The exit fee is three times the annual revenue received, so, like the GOR buyout, ND's exit fee will be small because it's only their non-football rights that are involved. It's a completely different world than what FSU and Clemson are looking at.
Are we sure about that? Everything I've read states that the Exit Fee is based on the ACC's revenue and ND's fee is not reduced. So they'd be looking at $100M Exit + ~$150 M GoR buyout prior to any negotiations.
Half of what full members are looking at but still significant.
QuoteND would make at least $70m/year in the BIG, but we know there are escalators in the BIG deal specifically for ND, so that base number would be higher.
The payout also goes up each year. Compared to the their current deal, they'd be in the black by year 3 even with the exit fee and buying out the GOR.
But that number is assuming that their current deal doesn't change. Remember the NBC deal is about to end and also the ACC's payout increases every year as well.
QuoteThe question is how much is NBC willing to pay them for an ACC-heavy home schedule each year ?
The delta between NBC's offer vs what they can make in the BIG (and still have their home games exclusively on NBC as part of the deal to join) is what will determine things.
Agree with this.
If they get the expected $60M from NBC plus their ACC payout, I'd be surprised if the delta was less than 5 years for Notre Dame.

ND can resign from the ACC, then buy their way out of the ACC GOR very cheaply b/c they are non-football members, and the value of their non-football rights doesn't amount to much.
1/3 of the cost is still not cheap. Plus they still need to pay the full exit fee, correct?
And they'd also be gaining less because their NBC+ACC deal combined is a smaller gap compared to what they would get by jumping.

Arizona State. All I know about them is their administration seems to peg out the goofy scale.
Don't forget about the med school.

Cal doesn't give a shit about football, but really wants the money.
Is it want or need?
Aren't they like a half billion in debt because of the football stadium renovations?-

I've heard that the only winner in all of this is billable hours, but I'm starting to think the local Panera is doing well for itself with all of these zoom calls.

ACC and Pac fans who talk about the academic benefits of playing in a certain conference (other than the B1G) are a lot like people who believe in bigfoot. They are passionate about their beliefs, but get really upset when you press them for specifics.
It's not limited to those two conferences.
I heard from a B1G fan this morning that all of their expansion targets have been a great fit because similar culture and geography aren't important.
That's not to say that all fanbases aren't like that, but SEC fans don't really need to move any goalposts right now to explain what Sankey is doing.

I was actually surprised at how heavily slanted to the future Big 12 it was. I remembered those Tech and OK State games but didn’t realize they played BYU that much and had KSU in the very near future.
Makes me wonder what happens with that game when they join? Probably easier to leave it but not count it as a conference gameUsing the SEC as a guide, KState and BYU appear to be 2 game series that haven't started yet, so those would probably be canceled outright.
TTech is weird since the second game of the series was supposed to be in 2020 and was moved way out. They'll probably just cancel the second half of that series for whatever the contract calls for
Theoretically, Arizona should be looking to clear space so that they can play Arizona State assuming ASU stays in the PacWhatever.

QuoteIt's doubtful that the regents would let the University of Arizona make a move without a plan in place for Arizona State. Surely, if Wildcats brass is set on leaving, they have their own proposal in mind, whether that means lobbying for the Sun Devils to come with them or reaching a financial consideration. In a similar situation, a divided California board of regents allowed UCLA to go to the Big Ten, but only for a significant price. The regents forced the Bruins to agree to pay Cal, their sister Pac-12 public school in the UC system, between $2-$10 million per year. (Big Ten TV revenue will likely be at least double on a per-school basis than the Big 12’s.)

Well, your argument was that the noncon was a reflection of who they want to play, and that slate is like 2/3rds schools that will be in the Big 12
I had an argument?

That's pretty Big 12 heavy, IMO.
Also judging by their sixth or maybe even seventh sense ability to schedule BYU and Houston prior to their inclusion, I'd go ahead and use this as a good sign that Nebraska is returning home and bringing Bama with them.

How many, if told it was the case, would blame it on Texas?
Not sure that that number has changed.
WaPo article this morning:
QuoteYet college football forced us down this path two years ago. When Texas and Oklahoma committed to join the SEC, realignment became an existential threat to all of the other conferences.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/07/31/college-football-greed-ambition/
So all of the realignment that's happened the last 40 or so years, all caused by Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC.

UVA is 14 in revenue, ahead of FSU who is 15. VT is 38th.
Id bet behind the scenes both SEC and BIG are going to work to get ND.
My understanding is that UVA is an anomaly this year due to a single large $50M donation.
They are usually in the 30-40 range.-

I'd say just have an employee bring in a Roku from home for that TV in the corner, but we don't know if the cease and desist would be coming from Apple's lawyers or from the Pac's lolyers.
